Volume 1, Chapter 46: Strange Temptation
"Ah?" Du Ruo opened his mouth in shock.
Xu Jingmo: "I only found out about these things last year. My grandmother had passed away when I was born, so how could she know these old secrets?"
Du Ruo asked, "Then, did your grandmother treat me differently?"
Xu Jingmo: "Probably not. According to the people around me, my grandmother is a very good person. After I was admitted to University A last year, I often went back to live in the old house. My grandfather found that my relationship with my father was not good, so he mentioned these past events to me. What he meant was that my father's personality was caused by him. If I have any resentment, I should blame him. He hopes that I can understand my father."
"My grandfather said that he had no intention of cheating, but was framed. When he was on a business trip, someone deliberately slipped something dirty into his mouth during a drinking party. Afterwards, he gave the woman a large sum of money and thought that the matter was settled. Unexpectedly, the woman came to him a year later with the child, wanting to continue asking for money. After a paternity test, it was confirmed that the child was indeed my grandfather's flesh and blood, that is, my father."
"My grandfather confessed to my grandmother that he didn't do it on purpose, but was tricked by someone. He also gave that woman a lot of money. After investigation, my grandfather found out that the woman was addicted to gambling and had lost all her money long ago. Now she wants to use my father as a permanent ATM."
"My grandmother had a difficult birth and was injured when she gave birth to my uncle. She could not have children in the future. My grandfather liked children very much and felt that they were his own flesh and blood, so he wanted to keep the child. My grandmother was also a very kind person. She knew that no matter how many mistakes were made, they were the adults' fault and the children were the most innocent. She felt that if the child followed such a mother, he would grow up to be disabled or crooked, so she kept the child and gave the woman a sum of money. Afterwards, she set up a trap to send the woman to jail."
"My grandfather said that my grandmother really raised my father as her own son and didn't treat him any differently."
"The better my grandmother was, the more guilty he felt towards her. He promised her that the Xu family's assets would be left to my uncle in the future and that he would never let my father compete with him for them. He asked my father to start another business."
"My dad was still young at that time, and my grandma didn't take it seriously."
"But there is no such thing as a wall without cracks. Later, a servant in the family was bribed by my grandfather's enemy and deliberately went to my father to spread rumors. My father then felt that everyone had deceived him. No matter how hard he worked, my grandfather would not let him enter the family business. He was a bastard. So he gave up and became a bad boy for a while. He also went against my grandmother in everything. My grandfather was very disappointed with him and thought that he deserved to be beaten for not obeying his orders, so he beat him lightly many times."
"My father felt even more disappointed and resentful because he didn't even touch his eldest son's finger but beat him. It was not until he angered my grandmother to the point of sickness that he repented."
"My grandmother was already in poor health in the early years, and he made her even worse. My father felt guilty, so he went abroad to study and never came back. Later, my grandmother suddenly suffered an acute cerebral hemorrhage and could not be saved. She only lived for a few hours. My father rushed back from overseas as soon as he heard the news, but unfortunately the journey was too long, so he still didn't see my grandmother for the last time. My grandmother had prepared a will in advance and left a letter to each of the three grandfathers, which roughly meant that a harmonious family brings prosperity."
"My grandfather said that after that, my father became very mature and sensible. After graduation, he returned to China to help my uncle. Later, seeing that outsiders had always suspected that he would compete with my uncle for the family property, he moved from the north to the south and started a completely different business field."
After listening to him talk about this family secret, Du Ruo understood in her heart that even if an adult suddenly knew about this kind of thing, he might not be able to accept it without any emotion in his heart, let alone a child. It is normal for him to do some impulsive things at an immature age.
Du Ruo sighed, "It turns out Uncle Xu's childhood was not easy either."
Xu Jingmo sneered disdainfully, "It's not easy for him, but it's easy for me? I am the one who owes him the least. I was born to be his son, not a puppet."
Du Ruo chuckled and said, "After learning about this, I suddenly realized that your temper is actually very similar to Uncle Xu's."
Xu Jingmo didn't care, "Well, it proves that I'm his biological son."
Du Ruo was speechless.
The two hadn't had such a heart-to-heart talk for a long time. Once they started talking, they couldn't stop and chatted until after two in the morning.
Xu Jingmo told her about the interesting things he had experienced in the past few years. Du Ruo's life was far less colorful than his. Every day she was either studying hard or immersed in various experiments. But Xu Jingmo was very curious about her life abroad. She could only recall everything in detail and share them one by one, even telling him such trivial things as her teacher wearing shoes backwards to work one day.
Xu Jingmo found out that she didn't have any friends of the opposite sex abroad, and he was very satisfied.
Most of her fellow seniors were already over thirty years old, so there was nothing to be afraid of.
By the end of the conversation, both of them were exhausted.
Du Ruo took a sip of water and asked, "Aren't you going to sleep yet?"
Xu Jingmo glanced at the time. It was 2:30 in the morning. He asked, "Are you asleep?"
Du Ruo nodded and said, "Well, I'm going to sleep."
Xu Jingmo said softly: "Go to sleep, good night."
"Good night."
Du Ruo returned to her room. Perhaps because she had been with Xu Jingmo the whole day and had overworked her brain, as soon as she lay down on the bed, she fell asleep quickly like a tired bird returning to its nest.
*
The next time I opened my eyes, it was 6:30 in the morning.
After Du Ruo finished washing up, she opened the bedroom door and a strong scent of traditional Chinese medicine filled her nose.
She walked into the living room and saw Xu Jingmo curled up on the sofa, covered with a blanket. His long legs were bent slightly and he couldn't stretch them out. He looked extremely uncomfortable. He was holding his cell phone tightly in his hand, his eyes were closed, and he was sleeping soundly.
Du Ruo approached the kitchen and found a casserole simmering on a low fire on the stove.
Her heart was suddenly drowned by a warm ocean. Did this idiot stay up all night boiling Chinese medicine for her without sleeping?
Just as the thought flashed through his mind, a shrill alarm rang out. Du Ruo turned around and saw Xu Jingmo frowning slightly. He felt something vibrating in his hand and threw it away in a slightly annoyed manner. He pulled the blanket over his head to try to block out the shrill sound.
Du Ruo found it funny watching from the side. So this is how he sleeps every day? So cute.
Suddenly, Xu Jingmo seemed to react to something. He sat up abruptly, reached out to find his cell phone on the carpet, turned off the alarm, stood up in a daze, and walked towards the kitchen.
When he raised his eyes, he saw Du Ruo standing at the kitchen door. He was stunned for a moment, blinked, and then a very gentle smile appeared on the corner of his mouth, like the warm sun in winter. When he spoke, his voice was low and sweet, which was heart-shaking.
"Morning, when did you get up?"
Du Ruo replied softly, "Just now."
Xu Jingmo hummed, walked into the kitchen, turned off the fire, and when he passed by Du Ruo, he couldn't help but reach out and gently rub her head.
His palms seemed to be always so warm. Du Ruo couldn't help but raise her hand and touch the place he had just rubbed. She stared at his hair which was a little frizzy due to sleep. Her hands also felt a little itchy and she wanted to touch it.
My heart also felt itchy, as if a little cat was gently stroking it with its tail.
Xu Jingmo, quite seductive, she thought.
