Chapter 7: Uncle and Stepson Are Here

There was only an empty bed in the other room, without even a quilt. Zheng Baozhu didn't understand why Song Zhiting wanted to bring someone to live at his home.

Song Zhiting saw her confusion and said, "I'll find two quilts."

Song Zhijiang said: "Sister-in-law, thank you for your help."

Zheng Baozhu forced a smile: "Have you eaten?"

"We just arrived and haven't eaten yet. This kid is already crying hungry on the way. Can you please give us something to eat, sister-in-law?"

Zheng Baozhu had no choice but to take out some more seafood and heat it in the pot.

Song Zhiting also came back, holding a quilt and taking two steamed buns.

An adult and a child were eating, and Zheng Baozhu gave Song Zhiting a wink.

Arriving in another room, Zheng Baozhu asked, "How long will they stay?"

"Brother is leaving tomorrow, Sicheng wants to stay."

"How many days will you stay?"

"Grandpa knew we were getting a divorce, and he got so angry that he fell ill. He didn't let my mom help me take care of the child. My eldest brother happened to be here for something, so he brought Sicheng here."

"You are busy with military work every day. Do you have time to take care of the children?"

Song Zhiting paused and glanced at Zheng Baozhu.

Zheng Baozhu quickly said, "I don't have any experience taking care of children. Don't count on me. You'd better ask for leave and we'll go back and complete the formalities."

"Not for the time being. Grandpa is already ill, and your grandfather knows about it. It's definitely impossible to go back now."

"What should I do? How long are we going to wait for you? I can't wait for you on the island forever, right?"

"I will find a way to resolve this matter. Sicheng needs someone to take care of him right now. I hope you can do me this favor. When grandpa is better, we can go back together. I will convince both parents."

"You'd better keep your word!"

The two made the bed, and Song Zhijiang came over and said to Zheng Baozhu, "Your mother knew I was coming to the army to look for you, and she found out that you took the wrong luggage, so she asked me to bring it to you."

As he spoke, Song Zhijiang went out and pointed at the two boxes he had brought.

"Sorry to bother you, Brother Song."

Zheng Baozhu opened the box, which contained clothes for all four seasons and a letter.

The Song brothers took Song Sicheng out, leaving space for Zheng Baozhu.

When I opened the letter, I found it was written by the original owner’s mother, Chen Lifang.

The letter said that after Zheng Baoyi got married, she went back to her parents' home every day to show off.

Chen Lifang told Zheng Baozhu to live a good life and never get divorced, otherwise she would be laughed at to death by Zheng Baoyi when she came back.

In addition, under her clothes, there was the dowry money given to her by her family and the betrothal money given by the Song family.

Zheng Baozhu saw two wrapped red handkerchiefs at the bottom of the box. One of the handkerchiefs was bulging. When she opened it, she found it was full of money.

Zheng Baozhu counted the money and found it was 6,000 yuan, of which 1,000 yuan was a dowry from her parents and the other 5,000 yuan was compensation from her grandfather.

The other handkerchief contained 1,888 yuan and a watch, which was the Song family's betrothal gift.

A parent who can give his child so much money undoubtedly loves his child, even though Mr. Zheng arranged her marriage, it was not for his own benefit.

When there is no perfect solution to the problem, Zheng Baozhu doesn't want to make her family sad or lose face because of herself.

Let Song Zhiting be the villain.

Let’s put the divorce on hold for now.

Zheng Baozhu boiled some hot water and asked Song Zhijiang and Song Sicheng to wash up.

Thinking that the child would sleep with Song Zhijiang, Song Zhijiang ended up handing the child over to Song Zhiting.

"I'll leave the child to you. I'm going to sleep now. I have things to do tomorrow."

Song Zhiting returned to the room with the child in his arms, looked at Zheng Baozhu sitting on the bed, and said, "I'll take the child to sleep in the office."

When Song Sicheng heard this, he pouted and said, "I won't leave. I want to live at home!"

As he said this, he struggled to get off Song Zhiping, climbed onto the bed in a few seconds, and pulled the quilt over himself.

Zheng Baozhu had a headache. She didn't need to live in this room, but she couldn't enter the space directly in front of the two of them.

Song Zhiting said, "You stay with Sicheng, I'll go back to the office."

This is the only way for now. We can only deal with it for one night. When Song Zhijiang leaves tomorrow, let the child live in a room alone, or in a room with Song Zhiting.

The child didn't recognize his bed and fell asleep in a short while. Song Zhiting also left.

Early in the morning, when Zheng Baozhu woke up, breakfast was already on the table.

After dinner, Song Zhijiang told the two to take good care of his nephew and left.

Song Zhiting was going to work and left the child with Ding Peizhi because Zheng Baozhu was going to the market to buy food.

The wives of soldiers in the family compound also followed them to the market to buy seasonings.

When he was about to leave, Song Sicheng walked up to Zheng Baozhu, took her hand and said obediently, "Mom, I will be good at home and won't run around."

Zheng Baozhu was not used to being called mom at such a young age. It was also difficult for her to say "I'm not your mom" in front of so many people.

He patted Song Sicheng's head and said, "Be good, listen to Aunt Ding and I'll buy you something delicious when I come back."

I stayed with Zheng Baozhu last night. Song Sicheng was very well behaved. Zheng Baozhu couldn't dislike such a sensible child.

When they arrived at the Zhaozhuang market, Zheng Baozhu went to buy food and the soldiers' wives went to buy seasonings.

When they gathered together, everyone saw Zheng Baozhu bought a lot of snacks, but no one said anything this time.

After all, they made their own money.

On the way back, the military wives were all fantasizing about making money by selling seafood.

Zheng Baozhu said: "You should make less at the beginning and find more people to taste it and see how it tastes."

Zhao Li said: "If I follow the recipe you gave me, it will definitely taste good."

"It's not necessarily the case. Everyone's method is different, and the taste is also different."

"Can you do it once for us to watch and we can learn from you."

"Can."

When Zheng Baozhu arrived at Ding Peizhi's house, she saw Song Sicheng writing on the table. She curiously went over to ask him, "Can you write your own name?"

Song Sicheng nodded and wrote his name on the paper.

Zheng Baozhu saw that his handwriting was quite neat, so she asked, "Did your grandparents teach you how to write at home?"

"My aunt and teacher taught me."

"You go to school?"

"Yeah, I'm in first grade."

Zheng Baozhu took the child home and gave him some snacks.

When Song Zhiting came back at noon, Zheng Baozhu said to him, "Your son is already in elementary school. Shouldn't you arrange for him to go to school?"

Song Zhiting thought for a moment and said, "It seems that grandpa is very angry. However, there is a school on the island. I will help him enroll in school later."

Zheng Baozhu asked Song Sicheng if he had any books.

Song Sicheng nodded and went over to get his small schoolbag, which contained all the books and stationery.

Soon, Song Zhiting took his son to the school on the island.

Zhao Li and the military wives also came to find Zheng Baozhu to teach them how to make spicy squid shreds.
