Chapter 7 Entering the City

Old Mrs. Wang glared at him fiercely, as if she were looking at a fool.

Seeing that she was ignoring him, Wang Youcai naturally dared not provoke her any further.

He crouched down and whispered to Kui Kui, "Kui, can you help your uncle check if something's wrong with my father?"

Kui Kui tilted his head, looked at Wang Laosan, and replied after a moment, "No problem."

"Grandpa Wang likes to eat meat, but knowing that you like it too, he saved it all for you while he was alive."

"Grandpa said you're not allowed to eat today, he wants to eat his fill by himself."

Wang Youcai was taken aback, and suddenly realized that Wang Laosan's eating habits weren't so scary after all.

The image of his father lovingly placing meat into his bowl kept flashing through his mind, saying that he had bad teeth, didn't like to eat meat, and couldn't digest it, and so on.

Looking back now, those excuses were so lame!

They were always different, and he was such a fool to believe them.

His eyes reddened, his nose tingled, and he knelt down in front of Wang Laosan with a thud.

"Dad, I know I was wrong. I was unfilial. I will burn paper money for you every day from now on and make sure you have meat to eat every meal."

Wang Laosan gave him a cold look, seemingly disbelieving, and continued to tilt his head and eat his meat.

Wang Youcai had no choice but to continue kneeling. As time passed, his knees gradually became sore and numb.

Just as he was hesitating whether to stand up, Kui Kui said, "Uncle, Master wants you to get up."

Wang Youcai was overjoyed.

"Dad, you've forgiven me?"

"Grandpa asked you to ask Xingwang when he will arrive."

Wang Youcai's face immediately fell, and he called Ding Qiong.

"Hey, honey, where are you and Xingwang? Should I come pick you up at the village entrance?"

"Xingwang was swimming, he just died."

"Hello! Hello!"

"Beep beep..."

The busy tone on the phone made Wang Youcai so angry he wanted to throw away his mobile phone.

He looked awkwardly at his elderly father, feeling guilty.

"Dad, I'll drive back right now and bring Xingwang with me!"

Grandma Wang frowned and said, "I'm afraid it's too late. Your father's wish must be fulfilled before midnight tonight."

"Otherwise, this body will not be able to retain its life force, and your father will not only become a monster, but he will also be unable to enter the cycle of reincarnation."

Wang Youcai pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and said, "Wang Shenpo, is it alright if I drive my dad into the city now?"

"Can."

"Alright! I'll trouble Granny Wang and Kui to come with me. I'll repay you handsomely after my father's burial!"

As Wang Youcai was speaking, he was about to kneel down and kowtow, but Old Lady Wang stopped him.

"Let's skip these formalities. There's no lasting grudge between father and son. If you can understand this, half of your father's knot in his heart will be untied."

Wang Youcai pursed his lips and remained silent.

"Pfft pfft pfft!" Accompanied by a farting sound, a foul stench spread.

"What's wrong with my dad?"

"I've had a bowel movement," Kui Kui said, running into the yard.

A moment later, he came in carrying a basin.

"Grandpa, don't be afraid. When I was little, my grandma would wipe me when I pooped. She said it's normal for people to poop when they need to go to the bathroom."

Wang Youcai took the basin of water and cloth from Kui Kui's hands, sighed, and said, "I'll do it!"

Old Mrs. Wang pulled Kui Kui out the door, and not long after, they heard Wang Youcai's sobbing voice coming from inside the house.

In Wang Youcai's memory, his father was tall and strong, and when he hit someone, it hurt terribly.

He has been hiding in the city for the past few years, unwilling to return to the village, partly because he is afraid of being beaten by the old man.

However, the father I remembered as so spirited and energetic is now emaciated, his skin drooping loosely, with not a bit of flesh on him.

When Wang Youcai's mother gave birth to him, she had a difficult childbirth, so Wang Laosan had to be both father and mother to her, suffering for most of his life.

When he was a child, he often said that he would take good care of his father when he made money in the future.

However, he failed!

Wang Youcai felt a pang of pain in his heart, and his cries grew louder as he wailed, "Father! I'm a bastard, I'm a worthless wretch! I've let you down!"

"Grandma, what's wrong with Uncle Wang?"

Grandma Wang gently touched Kui Kui's face and said softly, "Your uncle regrets it. It's a pity, but the time has come for you to repay your parents' kindness. Kui Kui, you must remember that there is no medicine for regret in this world. Think twice before you act."

Kui Kui nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.

Twenty minutes later, Wang Youcai composed himself and set off with Wang Laosan, Wang Laotai, and Kui Kui.

As the car entered the city, Kui Kui leaned out the window, gazing at the dazzling array of shops lining the streets with eyes full of curiosity.

After all, he's just a child!

Grandma Wang watched quietly, feeling both gratified and heartbroken.

Wang Youcai managed to compress the five-hour journey into four hours.

Ding Qiong was preparing dinner in the kitchen, while Wang Xingwang was watching cartoons in the living room.

He heard the sound of keys turning at the door and shouted, "Mom, Dad's home!"

With that, he ran toward the door.
