Ending
"Yes." Tao Xinghai relaxed and leaned back against the chair. Several servants came over and carried him and the chair upstairs.
He had no ability to resist. His hands and feet were tied by those people, and even his dignity was suppressed.
The chair was behind him, its wooden legs pressed against his bones, so hard, so straight. He was lowered to the bedroom floor, and Tao Xinghai watched them close the door.
There were no lights on in the room, and outside the huge French windows was a Metasequoia tree, swaying left and right in the wind and rain. Its trunks were straight, but its branches and leaves were soft.
Autumn has arrived, and the Metasequoia trees have lost their vibrant summer green, their edges tinged with a barely perceptible yellow. It's barely noticeable on closer inspection, but from a distance, the leaves stacked one on top of the other are no longer as light and clean as imagined.
"I should have known this earlier." Tao Xinghai's hands were tied behind his back to the legs of a chair. He moved, but nothing happened.
Tao Xingguo had trapped him here. How long did he want to keep him here? Until his brother was convicted? A tear slipped down the corner of his eye, and Tao Xinghai couldn't even wipe it away. The only thing he could do was raise his head and let the tear fall quickly.
He wanted to go home, back to England. Not here, not to be driven by power to touch the gateway called greed, not to become like his father.
On this road that he alone walks on, he will not be able to find out which step he took wrongly. He will stubbornly walk to the edge of the cliff, and finally step into the abyss and be shattered to pieces.
If Tao Xingye really went in, wouldn't he really become a nobody? He wouldn't even have an opponent, and everything in the house would belong to him, Tao Xinghai. But why, he wasn't that happy?
Why? Because he was his brother. Even if they hadn't known each other since childhood, he was still his brother. But now, he could only sit here, waiting for the curtain to rise on the final show, to see who would be standing on the stage.
This is a life-and-death struggle, not a joke.
Behind the murder between father and son, what seems even more horrifying are the two words wrapped in countless shrill shouts and boiling blood - justice.
These are two words that even children know by heart.
Tao Xinghai looked out the window. The room was stuffy, the twilight thickening. His scattered eyes slowly found a focus, and Tao Xinghai stared at the glass on the table.
He curled up his legs and knelt on the ground. He leaned forward, lifting the chair a little, even just a centimeter or two. He moved slowly. The men had tied him so tightly that he could only move on his knees, crawling less than twenty centimeters at a time.
Time suddenly passed quickly, the night grew darker and darker, and turned completely dark blue. The Metasequoia trees suffered from the wind and rain, and their branches and leaves swayed back and forth, hitting the glass windows.
One meter, half a meter, here we go!
Tao Xinghai straightened up, opened his mouth and bit the wall of the glass, then slammed it against the corner of the table. His teeth were so strong that they almost bit off the glass, but it was not enough to support the glass from hitting the wall.
The glass didn't change at all, and Tao Xinghai hated himself so much for wanting to cover the whole house with carpets.
He gritted his teeth and banged his head against the corner of the table again. He didn't even consider whether he would be hurt by the broken glass. He banged again and again until the glass finally broke in the middle, and several tiny pieces of glass fell onto the soft carpet.
Now the problem becomes how to get the glass in your hand and cut the rope.
The desk and cabinet were too close to the wall, and there was no room for him to turn around and squeeze the chair in.
Tao Xinghai had no choice but to use his knees to push the glass out.
However, the carpet was very thick and his knees were scratched. The glass rolled around but did not move at all, and was even stuck in the deepest part of the blanket.
"Come out and kowtow to me three times, and I'll let you go." Tao Xinghai cursed, bent down and opened his mouth. He used his tongue to probe into the soft and fine plush of the carpet. He rolled up the piece of glass and shouted into his mouth, then knelt down and took two steps back.
He bent down and spat out the glass fragment, his saliva mixed with a few strands of blood, which was disgusting.
Tao Xinghai complained, straightened up, rubbed the carpet and began to turn around. After groping for a long time, he finally got the piece of glass.
The piece of glass rubbed against the bottom of the rope. His wrist was sore from bending it but there was no change. Tao Xinghai couldn't help but speed up. The piece of glass sank deep into his palm and was soon stained red with blood.
When the rope snapped, the string in Tao Xinghai's mind snapped as well. He froze for a few seconds, then tentatively moved his wrist, and the hemp rope began to rustle downwards.
A huge joy instantly filled his heart, his breathing began to quicken, and he could not feel the pain in his hands at all. Tao Xinghai took the piece of glass and cut the rope on his feet in a few strokes, and put the piece of glass in his pocket - this was a gift that helped him a lot!
Tao Xinghai stood up on tiptoe, his heart pounding. Running out the door was out of the question. He expected quite a few people to be guarding downstairs, perhaps even one or two at his door.
"I have to kowtow four times now." Tao Xinghai looked downstairs. It was the second floor. If he jumped from this height, the worst that would happen was a broken bone.
He didn't hesitate and pushed open the glass window. The raindrops hit his face and it was hard to open his eyes. Tao Xinghai stepped out, holding the edge of the window. The wind was even stronger, and his clothes were bulging like a ball.
He didn't feel high when standing in the room, but when he looked down, Tao Xinghai wished he could go back inside.
"Never mind." He gritted his teeth.
There was a dull thud, and Tao Xinghai climbed up from the ground. He didn't dare move, huddled behind the bushes for a while. No one came out, apparently having heard anything.
Both palms were scraped, blood and water mixed with mud filling the wounds. Tao Xinghai tentatively stood up, still bent over. He was really thankful for the rain today; it was so heavy that visibility was limited.
He slowly moved forward until he finally reached the door. He saw his car, took out his keys, stood up, and ran over while opening the door.
The car started up instantly, and after a dull roar, the flashy silver-white sports car stirred up a wave of water and drove into the water. He glanced in the rearview mirror and saw no one was chasing him.
"Yes!" Tao Xinghai pounded the steering wheel in relief. He had already decided on his destination. He was going to the Wanyun Group headquarters. The night was long and he had to leave some evidence before Tao Xingguo destroyed the bills.
At nine o'clock, the headquarters building was pitch black. Tao Xinghai didn't dare to go through the main entrance, let alone the elevator. He carefully avoided any place with cameras.
He climbed up to the 26th floor on his own two legs, his breathing becoming more and more rapid.
He came out of the stairwell and glanced at the innermost office from a distance. Through the glass wall, it was quiet inside and no one was there.
For some reason, perhaps because he had imagined the scene of him successfully obtaining evidence too many times, he was soaked to the skin, and when he actually stood there, his legs felt a little weak.
Tao Xinghai wiped his face and cleaned his hands with his wet shirt.
He bent down carefully and placed the phone on the fingerprint lock. There seemed to be a drum ringing in his ears. Tao Xinghai held his breath. The recognition time of several seconds seemed extremely long.
He must pass it! His father can’t be so quick!
With a "buzz", the fingerprint lock began to flash green, and after three clicks, the door automatically opened.
Tao Xinghai grabbed a chair to block the door and walked over to the computer, which was still on. Tao Xingguo's neat organization of documents ultimately made things easier for him.
Tao Xinghai found a USB flash drive. His hands were shaking, so he held his left hand with his right hand before inserting the USB flash drive.
Suddenly there was a sound behind him, and Tao Xinghai was so scared that he turned around to look.
In the pitch darkness, nothing changed. The glass reflected his panicked expression, and there was no one else.
Tao Xinghai breathed a sigh of relief and bent down again to stare at the screen.
Ninety-eight percent, ninety-nine percent... Wait, Tao Xinghai's breathing stopped. On the computer screen, a head slowly emerged from behind him, completely black.
"Are you copying evidence?"
Tao Xinghai moved his eyes, his whole body stiffening. The room fell into a deathly silence, even the sound of rain disappeared.
There was no one in sight just now, so where did this person come from?
Tao Xinghai was sweating on his back. This person had been following him silently.
"Fuck you." Tao Xinghai reacted, pulled out the USB drive and stuffed it into his pocket. He flipped over the documents on the table and threw them backwards, then jumped over the table.
However, the man was not in a hurry. Tao Xinghai watched him jump over. The man was wearing a black mask and a raincoat, but strangely, there was not a drop of water on him.
Tao Xinghai heard the man sneer, and some light shot into his eyes. When Tao Xinghai realized what it was, the man in black had already run in front of him.
The man's eyes were ferocious, full of murderous intent and even more excitement. The dagger suddenly stabbed towards Tao Xinghai's eyeball.
Tao Xinghai raised his foot to kick him away, but the man pulled his leg and pushed him hard against the door.
The man walked closer and closer, and stabbed with the dagger again.
"Do you think you're the only one with a weapon!" Tao Xinghai swung his arms in circles, even faster than the professional killer. The glass fragments almost blinded the man's eyes.
The man closed his eyes tightly, leaving a red mark on his eyelids.
Tao Xinghai ran out of the office like crazy, the wind in his ears. He heard the roar of the person behind him rushing towards him, and a loud noise came, and he could feel that person getting closer and closer.
Tao Xinghai could only run, that was all he could do.
On the 26th floor, two people walked one in front and one behind in the staircase that circled fifty-two times.
Tao Xinghai was about to run out of strength, but the man in black was running faster and faster.
Tao Xinghai could feel the man's hand trying to grab his hair. He came up with an idea and suddenly used up his last bit of strength to speed up.
Just when the man in black was about to catch him, Tao Xinghai suddenly turned around and kicked the man in the lower abdomen. Under the huge impact force, both of them fell to the sides.
The man in black stumbled on the stairs and seemed unable to stand up. Tao Xinghai was prepared and directly opened the fire door and ran into the office area. He pressed the button for the elevator.
After climbing in, the elevator door began to close. Tao Xinghai kept pressing the close button, but the elevator door remained motionless. His legs felt weak, and he saw the man rushing towards him with a dagger in his hand, his face filled with anger.
The man even stretched out a hand and said, "Hurry up, hurry up!"
Everything happened so coincidentally, the elevator door closed just when the man was about to reach out his hand.
Tao Xinghai slumped into the elevator. Something occurred to him, and he looked back at his current floor: the eighteenth. Fortunately, fortunately! Any floor above the tenth floor required an employee card.
Fortunately! Tao Xinghai couldn't help crying. That person wouldn't chase him. His ankle began to hurt belatedly. He looked down and saw that blood had soaked through his suit pants. It must have been from the fall when he jumped from the building.
Tao Xinghai couldn't care less. He looked up at the camera, took out the USB drive from his pocket and held it up, "Dad, I know you're watching."
His voice was shaking. "All the evidence is in there. If I report it, the consequences will be more serious than if you surrender yourself." Tao Xinghai stood up by supporting himself against the elevator wall.
He took one last look at the camera and slowly walked out of the elevator.
Tao Xingguo closed the screen and clasped his hands together. His phone kept ringing beside him. He bowed three times in one direction, then three times in another.
Neither of the two directions matched the location of the Buddha statue. Instead, they were heading towards the police station and the company.
Tao Xingguo took the phone, and an apologetic voice came from the other end, "I didn't see it clearly."
"Go ahead and do it. Even though it's so far to the police station..." Tao Xingguo took a breath, "Go ahead!"
He stood up resolutely and suddenly overturned the Buddha statue in front of him that had been enshrined for many years, "Put their tablets over here!"
That was a tablet that had been prepared long ago. Tao Xingguo forgot which year it was, and he also forgot why he made tablets for his two biological sons. Maybe he thought he could use them in the future.
Coincidentally, it is actually used now.
Tao Xingguo looked out the window and thought that the storm should have stopped.
The raindrops hitting the ground were like butterflies. Looking around, the ground was covered with the remains of "raindrops".
The wheels ran over a "butterfly" that had not yet formed. In the rearview mirror, a black car slid out from the corner and suddenly rushed towards this side.
Tao Xinghai recognized the car; it belonged to his father. The police station was just up ahead. Was his father going to turn himself in?
Tao Xinghai slowed down, waiting for his "dad" to catch up. As expected, the black car sped up, and he lowered the right window, ready to say a few words to his dad.
However, the black car drove side by side with him for almost a minute, but there was no response from the other side.
A sharp gaze seemed to shoot out from behind the black glass. Tao Xinghai broke out in a cold sweat. This wasn't his father, it was the killer! Before he could react, the black car sped towards him.
The huge impact made Tao Xinghai almost lose his grip on the steering wheel, and the two cars were pressed tightly together. At this moment, if Tao Xinghai slowed down, he would be overturned by the black car.
The rain was getting heavier, the wipers were out of action, and he couldn't see a thing. But the man, desperately trying to hold onto Tao Xinghai, clung to him. In the blur, blue and red light shone through the glass.
The sound of police sirens filled the streets. Tao Xinghai heard a voice from the front, amplified many times by a loudspeaker: "Stop resisting! Stop resisting!"
The black car rolled down its window at that moment, and the moment he met those eyes, Tao Xinghai was horrified, a moment he would never forget. That was a cold-blooded, cruel expression of indifference. The man raised his phone, turning up the volume, but Tao Xingguo's voice was still indistinct.
Tao Xinghai couldn't hear a word. He couldn't see that if he continued driving and hit a police car, he would also go to jail. He didn't care whether there would be a car accident or not, and slowed down little by little.
The red and blue light in front of him grew brighter and brighter, and the car finally stopped after sliding for a distance. Then, a violent crash came from the right. Tao Xingye pushed the door open and got out of the car. His breath stopped.
The silver car was pressed tightly against the police car, only a palm's thickness away.
On the right, a black car was overturned by the barrier, and a large number of police cars were knocked left and right.
Alarm bells blared continuously, and a large number of police officers stood behind the police car with weapons pointed at him.
Tao Xinghai saw a familiar face, Chu Yan. Everything connected, and anger burned in his chest. "You all guessed I would go!"
The police were getting closer and closer. There was a friction sound behind them, followed by a familiar shout - "Xinghai, go home."
When Tao Xinghai returned home, he looked back and saw Tao Xingguo looking at him with kindness, without any trace of the ferocious look he had a few hours ago.
On the left are Chu Yan and the police, and on the right is Tao Xingguo.
They were at a stalemate, each side irreconcilable. And I was caught in the middle, even having nearly lost my life several times not long ago.
"Dad?" Tao Xinghai's body was shaking. "Can I still call you dad?"
"Why not, Xinghai? Come back, your mother is still in contact with me." Tao Xingguo opened his arms. In his gentle tone, Tao Xinghai heard a threat.
Tao Xinghai closed his eyes, and raindrops hit his face, just like the unfired purple pills in the police's hands.
Tao Xinghai died in today's rain.
Everyone's eyes were on the young man, who had his head held high, shoulders lowered, staring straight ahead as he backed away in the direction of the police.
Several policemen stepped forward and held him down. They heard the boy say in a voice so weak that it was almost drowned out by the sound of the rain, "The evidence is in my pocket..."
Tao Xinghai was sent into the police car. Before leaving, he looked at Chu Yan through the glass.
Chu Yan understood the meaning of that look. It was saying, I know you have included me in this.
A great sympathy surged from the bottom of Chu Yan's heart, but before this sympathy could grow, a roar came from the right. Mr. Tao, who was well-known to everyone in Jincheng, was sitting in the dirty water with his head in his hands.
It seems that a wealthy family cannot be perfect.
He heard that his boss fired the previous special assistant to the president because he was bribed by Tao Xingguo, and that was why he was chosen to be the new special assistant to the president.
He was fired, but not because of distrust. That day he was taken to the old house in Linjia Town, and he bought the old house according to Tao Xingye's instructions.
He also knew about the existence that their boss, Tao, had buried deep in his heart. Who would have thought that the wife of the famous eldest son of the Tao family actually grew up in such an old house.
When Chu Yan handed the purchase contract to Tao Xingye, he noticed a rare smile on the corner of their CEO's mouth. "She's a little nostalgic. If I'm gone, she'll have to live alone again. Her parents treat her... they probably won't give her this house."
That day, Mr. Tao looked around the house many times, and only felt relieved after making sure that the house had no connection with the Tao family.
Perhaps from that day on, Tao Xingye had a premonition of what was happening now. Chu Yan didn't believe that things would get this serious at first, and even completed everything Tao Xingye instructed with doubt.
That doubt slowly faded after what he had experienced over the past few days. Chu Yan retreated and quietly disappeared into the crowd again.
