Chapter 17: Trial by Three Courts
Zhong Nianyao looked at the yellow-haired man, her eyes expressionless. "If I were you, instead of wasting time here, I'd go back and arrange my own affairs. After all, you don't have much time left."
Facing those emotionless eyes, Huangmao felt a wave of fear in his heart, and then a chill rose from the soles of his feet. He felt that even breathing was difficult.
"Just wait for me."
After leaving behind these harsh words, the yellow-haired man fled as if he were escaping. From his hurried steps, it could be seen that his heart was filled with fear.
Zhong Nianyao glanced at the yellow-haired man who was almost fleeing in panic, her expression unchanged. It was as if she had ignored all the threats from the other party.
There were still many people coming and going, but no one stopped in front of Zhong Nianyao's stall. Some might be curious, but no one really believed that such a young girl could tell fortunes.
Until eight o'clock in the evening, no one came to Zhong Nian Yao for fortune-telling.
Zhong Nianyao was not in a hurry. She simply packed up her stall and went home. She looked nonchalant, as if she was not setting up a stall here, but just playing around.
However, her actions did not attract any attention at Tongtian Bridge.
When Zhong Nianyao returned home, she found quite a few people gathered in the living room. Mr. Zhong, Mrs. Zhong, and the Zhong Minghao family from the first wife were all there. However, there wasn't a single person from the second wife.
Seeing so many people in the living room, Zhong Nianyao raised an eyebrow, then walked over casually and sat down on the sofa. "So many people, are they all waiting for me? This is a three-court trial!"
Before anyone else could speak, Zhong Mengfan, who had always disliked Zhong Nianyao, spoke first, "Zhong Nianyao, how dare you say that? So many of us are waiting for you alone, don't you feel guilty?"
"Oh!" Zhong Nianyao raised her eyebrows. "Why should I feel guilty? It's not me who asked you to wait for me. Besides, I just got back. Can you at least tell me what happened?"
Old Master Zhong opened his mouth and was about to say something, but was interrupted by Zhong Mengfan. "How dare you ask what happened? Zhong Nianyao, you're back to your old ways again, aren't you? Where have you been fooling around again? Do you know that Grandpa and Grandma have been worried about you?"
"Nian Yao, don't be angry. Meng Fan is just concerned about you." Zheng Siling explained with a smile, "Although her words were harsh, she was just acting like that because she saw your parents were so worried about you tonight that they couldn't even eat dinner properly."
Zhong Nianyao finally understood what was going on. However, she ignored the others and turned to look at Mr. Zhong and Mrs. Zhong with a hint of guilt on her face. "Grandpa, Grandma, I forgot to tell you. I had something to do tonight, so I came back a little late. If I come home late next time, I will definitely tell you."
Zhong Nianyao still had a good impression of these two elderly people who cared about her sincerely. In this matter, she was indeed not thoughtful enough. In the past, she always kept to herself and had never considered such a thing.
"Yaoyao, we don't mean to restrict you or anything." Old Madam Zhong took Zhong Nianyao's hand and said, "We are just worried about you. You have just been discharged from the hospital. What if something happens, or if you suddenly feel unwell, what should we do?"
"You little rascal." Mr. Zhong's tone was no longer so good, but one could still sense a deep concern in his words. "If there's anything wrong, won't you just say something? Are you mute?"
Zhong Nianyao stood up and squeezed in between Mr. Zhong and Mrs. Zhong and sat down. She reached out her hands, holding each person's arm, and said with a smile, "Grandpa, Grandma, I really know I was wrong. I promise that no matter where I go in the future, I will tell you."
It seems that I really can’t set up the stall after school in the future, otherwise it will be difficult to explain why I come home late every time.
Fortunately, she is in college now and doesn't have classes every day. She can just go when she doesn't have classes or on weekends.
Mr. Zhong, who had originally had a sullen face, calmed down a lot after seeing Zhong Nianyao's behavior. However, he still snorted coldly.
It was Old Madam Zhong who asked with great concern, "Yaoyao, have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet," Zhong Nianyao stuck out her tongue, looking somewhat innocent.
"You kid," Old Madam Zhong quickly ordered, "Housekeeper Li, quickly have someone heat up the food. The Third Young Lady hasn't eaten yet!"
