Chapter 687: Bridges are bridges, roads are roads
"Why are you doing this?" Han An stared at Zhong Nianyao, "The imperial edict you requested is not helping me at all, but harming me."
She had been Zhong Nianyao's apprentice, and although she couldn't say she understood Zhong Nianyao's personality completely, she did have some understanding of it. Therefore, she didn't think that Zhong Nianyao's original intention in requesting this imperial decree was to help her.
"To harm you?" Zhong Nianyao looked at Han An and smiled. "In that case, I will go to the emperor tomorrow and ask him to revoke his decision. This can be regarded as my last request before I leave. I think he will definitely agree."
"no."
After hearing what Zhong Nianyao said, Han An subconsciously objected.
However, when she met Zhong Nianyao's half-smile, she couldn't help feeling a little embarrassed and irritated.
"Didn't I say I was harming you?" Zhong Nianyao's smile was filled with endless irony. "Why are you opposing it now? Are you afraid that without this imperial decree, your position as Princess Yu will be in jeopardy?"
"What do you want?" Han An was irritated. When he looked at Zhong Nianyao, his tone became sharp. "You just want to see me suffer. You want to take revenge on me for telling Prince Yu about that matter, right?"
"Yes, I was the one who told Prince Yu about that matter. But, in the end, it was the royal family who forced you to death! If you really want revenge, then go find them! Why are you staring at me like this?"
Now, she was in a dilemma. Because of that imperial decree, she and Nalan Chenyu became enemies, and she also realized how ridiculous the love she had insisted on for so many years was.
However, if there was no imperial edict, then as Zhong Nianyao said, her position as Princess Yu would be absolutely in jeopardy.
Compared to Han An's excitement, Zhong Nianyao seemed much calmer. She raised her eyes, glanced at Han An gently, and said, "I have never thought of taking revenge on you, nor have I thought of taking revenge on the royal family. I have said many times that what happened back then was my own will."
"Then why did you do this?" Han An could no longer control his emotions and yelled at Zhong Nianyao, "You are pushing me into a desperate situation! Why are you so cruel?"
“There’s actually no reason why.”
Even in the face of Han An's hysteria, Zhong Nianyao remained calm and composed. She leaned her hands on the table beside her, supporting her chin with one hand, and said lightly, "I just want to see what the love that you were willing to throw yourself into the fire for at all costs will become."
Hearing this, Han An was stunned. She looked at Zhong Nianyao in disbelief, "You...you did this on purpose? You just want to stir up trouble between me and Prince Yu. How can you be so cruel?"
"Then you're wrong." Zhong Nianyao looked at Han An, a cold smile on her lips. "When I came back, I had no intention of causing trouble for you. After all, the relationship between us as master and disciple has long been severed. We have parted ways, and we will never see each other again."
"But I don't know who gave you the courage. After betraying me, you actually dared to appear before me and ask me to help your husband sit on the throne. Do you think I'm a fool, or are you treating me like a fool?"
"I didn't," Han An subconsciously started to defend himself, but his voice was small and his confidence was weak, "I never had such thoughts."
"Whether you have such thoughts or not is not important at all now." Zhong Nianyao shook her head. "I didn't want to argue with you about what you and Nalan Chenyu did. But you insisted on jumping around in front of me and testing my bottom line."
"You guys are probably too free, so you have the time to bother me again and again. So, I think it's a good thing for you two to be locked up."
Faced with such an irrefutable fact, Han An opened his mouth and wanted to say something, but nothing came out.
"Go back!" Zhong Nianyao looked at Han An with a cold voice, "I'm leaving tomorrow. Since we were once master and disciple, I'll give you some advice!"
"The imperial edict states that you and Nalan Chenyu must grow old together, which means you will always be his legal wife. But don't forget, the imperial edict only states that Nalan Chenyu cannot abolish you as the princess. But -"
When she said this, Zhong Nianyao gave Han An a meaningful look, "Being widowed is another matter. As long as you become the former king's consort, Nalan Chenyu can still appoint a new consort."
As soon as these words were spoken, Han An froze. She looked up suddenly, her pupils shrank slightly, and she spoke in a stammering voice, "You mean--" Nalan Chenyu wants to kill me.
Before she could even utter the last word, she was already heartbroken beyond measure. She refused to believe this fact, even though she was no longer of any use to Nalan Chenyu. But, no matter what, they had been married for over a decade. How could Nalan Chenyu want to kill her?
She kept trying to convince herself, but she couldn't do it. She also wanted to deny the fact and say that Zhong Nianyao was lying.
However, deep down in her heart she knew very well that what Zhong Nian Yao said was true.
Zhong Nianyao must have seen something, so she said that.
"I didn't say anything." Zhong Nianyao spread her hands, looking as if it had nothing to do with her. "I just kindly reminded you. As for the rest, it's up to you!"
"you--"
Han An's hands hung down at her sides, now clenched into fists. She tried hard to suppress her inner emotions, "Why did you say that?"
"No reason." Zhong Nianyao responded lazily, "Besides, shouldn't you be grateful to me for telling you about this?"
Han An stood there, his lower lip almost bitten.
"Okay, it's getting late." Zhong Nianyao stood up and stretched. "I don't have that much time to waste with you. If you don't have anything to do, then leave quickly! Otherwise--"
Zhong Nianyao looked at Han An, a meaningful smile on her lips. "If you annoy me later, I might get upset and do something. There's no telling what might happen to you. Even if you already have the imperial edict in your hand, I have a way to make it ineffective. So, from now on, you'd better not appear in front of me again."
