Chapter 449: Hiring a Killer

Chapter 449: Hiring a Killer

Zhong Nianyao was not in a good mood after the accident and went home directly. However, she did not tell Mr. Zhong and Mrs. Zhong about the accident at the school gate. She did not want to make the two old people worry about her.

The next day, the police came to the door. This time it was Han Xin again, but the policeman who came with him was someone he had never seen before. He looked quite young, probably a rookie.

This was the scene Zhong Nianyao saw when she came to the living room.

"Captain Han, why is it always you?"

Zhong Nianyao was still a little surprised when she saw Han Xin. "You came here, could there be another murder? But even if it is a murder, it should have nothing to do with me! I haven't encountered any murders recently!"

"No!" Han Xin shook his head. "Ms. Zhong, we're here mainly to investigate a traffic accident."

When she heard the words "traffic accident", a glimmer of light flashed in Zhong Nianyao's eyes, and then she stopped Han Xin from continuing, "Captain Han, let's go to the garden and talk!"

Although Mr. and Mrs. Zhong were not there, there were still some servants around. She did not intend to let Mr. and Mrs. Zhong know about the unexpected incident yesterday. If she told them here, she was afraid that it would reach the ears of the two elders.

Soon, Zhong Nianyao, Han Xin and others came to the garden outside and sat down.

After serving the tea, the servant left with great courtesy.

After the servant left, Zhong Nianyao looked at Han Xin and another rookie police officer sitting across from her. A smile appeared on her lips as she teased, "Captain Han, aren't you from the criminal investigation department? How come you're in charge of the traffic police brigade?"

"Ms. Zhong, this is not an ordinary traffic accident." Han Xin looked at Zhong Nianyao, his tone filled with unconscious respect. "I believe you can also see that the driver planned it. Moreover, we suspect-"

The last sentence was not spoken.

Zhong Nianyao immediately filled him in, "His target is me."

Han Xin nodded. "We checked the surveillance footage. His car was parked there the entire time. He started driving just a minute before you left. Furthermore, when he hit you, he didn't show any signs of braking; instead, he sped up."

"oh."

Hearing that someone was going to hit her to death, Zhong Nianyao's expression did not change at all. She just nodded and said lightly, "Did the driver admit it?"

"Not yet." Han Xin shook his head. "The driver's blood alcohol level was 320mg/100mL, far exceeding the drunk driving limit of 80mg/100mL. After he woke up, he kept insisting that he was drunk and unconscious, which is why he almost hit someone."

Zhong Nianyao was not surprised by this. "Okay, I know everything you said."

Seeing Zhong Nianyao so calm, rookie policeman Lu Fei couldn't help but speak up, "Ms. Zhong, aren't you surprised at all? Besides, someone is trying to kill you! How can you be so calm?"

It's like they are talking about someone else's business now.

Zhong Nianyao glanced at Lu Fei, then turned to look at Han Xin, raised her eyebrows, and asked, "New here?"

He looked so passionate, and at first glance he was a young man who had not experienced much of the world.

"Yes." Han Xin nodded, then looked at Lu Fei and said directly, "Shut up. You are a police officer. You should know what to say and what not to say."

After hearing Han Xin's reprimand, Lu Fei seemed a little aggrieved. However, he didn't say anything else. However, when he looked at Zhong Nianyao, his eyes were still filled with worry.

Han Xin looked at Zhong Nianyao again and asked, "Ms. Zhong, did that driver really want to kill you? Or did something strange happen to him?"

Judging from the surveillance footage, he felt the driver had done it on purpose, aiming for Zhong Nianyao's life. However, he had also witnessed several paranormal events with Zhong Nianyao, so he couldn't rule out the possibility that the driver was being controlled by something.

"There's nothing strange about that driver," Zhong Nianyao said calmly, "Everything he did was out of his own heart."

"The driver committed murder intentionally." Lu Fei, standing by, couldn't help but speak indignantly, "Captain, I think we should directly file a public prosecution and accuse him of intentional homicide."

"Shut up! You're a police officer! How can you say something like that?" Han Xin glared at Lu Fei. "And you're talking about intentional homicide? Where's the evidence?"

Surveillance footage can't be used as direct evidence. The driver's blood alcohol content was already seriously above the legal limit. If he insists that he was driving under the influence, then that's the only way to go. He can't be prosecuted for intentional homicide. The procuratorate is unlikely to agree to that either.

Most importantly, there was no connection between the driver and Zhong Nianyao. At least, they hadn't found any connection yet.

"No matter what crime you commit, it's useless." Zhong Nianyao shook her head. "Even if that driver really killed me today, even if you found evidence and brought him to justice, you can't do anything."

After hearing what Zhong Nianyao said, Han Xin frowned, "Miss Zhong, what do you mean?"

"You probably haven't found out yet," Zhong Nianyao said calmly, "The driver is already terminally ill and won't live long. If I'm not mistaken, he probably only has two or three months left."

As early as the accident scene, she had already seen from the driver's face that he was not long for death. Therefore, she did not believe that this was a simple accident.

As soon as these words came out, Han Xin and Lu Fei's eyes widened in surprise. Obviously, they really hadn't found this out.

Lu Fei was skeptical about this. He didn't know where Zhong Nianyao got the information from, but the way she said it with such confidence didn't seem like it was fake.

Han Xin, on the other hand, immediately became serious after hearing what Zhong Nianyao said. "Ms. Zhong, have you had any conflicts with anyone recently?"

After hearing about the driver's situation, the first thing that came to his mind was hiring a killer.

If it was really a murder for hire, then the person must have had a huge conflict with Zhong Nianyao. Otherwise, ordinary people really wouldn't do such a thing to take someone's life.
