Chapter 122 Invited to Witness
“Dou dou dou——”
Mei Yang covered his ears and turned over, but the sound became louder and louder. Helplessly, he had to get up yawning.
Mei Yang walked to the window, removed the nails nailed underneath, and unscrewed the window to the side to let the big fat bird squatting in the window come in.
A sparrow as big as a rhinoceros and as fat as an old hen walked into the house on its two thin legs and pecked at the wheat in the stone trough prepared for it by Mei Yang.
Mei Yang sat on the bed and stared at it, stunned for a long time.
This is the third month of life on the mother tree.
The second time he traveled through time, Mei Yang lived with the elves for a much longer time than the last time.
Since he was already there, he decided to make the best of it. He settled down there peacefully and didn't feel uncomfortable at all - it was just an enlarged tree house.
After the sparrow finished its meal, it squatted beside the trough, waiting for Mei Yang to change its water. Seeing that Mei Yang was still in a daze, it chirped twice to urge him.
Mei Yang sighed, dragged a large wooden basin from under the bed, and went to the bathroom to fetch water.
He now finally understood what the vents covered with animal skins and the flat, road-like branches he had seen during his previous adventure on the mother tree were used for. The elves of this period would raise a giant sparrow-like bird as a means of transportation. The vents were their shelters from the rain, and the branches served as a sort of helipad.
The sparrow that is eating and drinking in Mei Yang's room is called Barley. It is one of the public transportation sparrows. Recently, because he has to pick up Mei Yang to go to the forest to work with the adults, he has a very good relationship with Mei Yang.
After Mei Yang changed the water for Barley and quickly finished his sandwich, he asked Barley to go out of the window first. Then he took the drawing board and climbed up to the window himself. He walked out of the bark passage that was several meters thick, sat on Barley's back, held the reins tightly, and let Barley take him down from the mother tree to the clearing in the forest - the prototype of the Elf Square a hundred years later.
Mei Yang's recent job is to help the elves with appearance design, commonly known as advertising.
He majored in communication in college, and the courses taught the application of software such as PS, PR, and AE. In order to work and study, Mei Yang often helped others make PPT to earn a living. Over time, he taught himself a lot of things about advertising design.
During this period, there were no other cubs in the tribe. Mei Yang did not want to be the teachers' only student, so he used the passing test paper to prove that he could skip studying and go directly to work.
But he doesn't know any of the things that the elves are good at, such as construction, mining, and planting.
The elves didn't care if the young workers didn't work, but Mei Yang didn't want to be useless, so he volunteered to help the elves design advertisements.
The elves' society is a collective economy similar to communism. All public facilities are free, but if individuals collect items during their non-working hours, they own them.
The country was also relatively backward in commerce, with no currency and mainly relying on barter.
But bartering also requires markets and stalls for everyone to exchange. Mei Yang's current job is to count the preferences of every elf who is interested in opening a store in the shops on the 20th to 25th floors of the mother tree, and design billboards for them.
Without those friends to play with, Mei Yang had to find something to do to pass the time every day.
When he arrived at the Elf Square, Mei Yang saw that the foundations of the temple and the theater had been laid. He didn't have time to go to the theater the last time he traveled through time, but now, every day, he could hear the elves gathering together to sing.
On the other hand, the development of hot springs encountered difficulties.
In fact, it is not a hot spring yet, but just a newly formed spring.
Several elves were gathered there, arguing endlessly as they watched the scalding hot water bubbling out.
"I think it's a good idea to build the restaurant here. This way we won't have to boil water anymore."
"But have you ever thought that our restaurant doesn't have any hot water at all? Only humans use hot water to cook, and we probably won't be eating with humans for a long time..."
"Cough!" Mei Yang coughed lightly, reminding the two adult elves that they had been eating with him, a human, for the past three months.
"Oh, it's you, little Mei Yang." The brown-haired female elf who would become the restaurant manager in the future touched Mei Yang's little head, which only reached her shoulders, and said, "Of course we haven't forgotten you, cute human cub."
Another pink-haired male elf said, not to be outdone: "Xiao Meiyang, then you judge whether I am right or not - many human recipes do not necessarily require hot water, but rather use fire more often."
The two men put their hands on their hips and looked at Mei Yang, insisting that he give his opinion.
Mei Yang thought for a moment and asked the pink-haired male elf, "Do you have any other ideas besides the restaurant?"
The male elf was stunned: "No."
"Then why do you think it shouldn't be used to repair the restaurant?"
"Because I think there is a better way, but I just haven't thought of it yet."
Mei Yang nodded in understanding.
He turned and said to the female elf, "I have an idea."
As he spoke, he picked up a branch from the side - there was construction going on recently, and construction materials and construction waste were everywhere - then squatted down and signaled the two adult elves to squat down as well.
Mei Yang used a small branch to draw a series of bubble-like circles on the ground, and then drew a square on top of the circles. Then, while modifying them, he explained, "I think we should build an elf hot spring."
"The square at the top is the spring. It's best to surround it with a fence to prevent pollution. Build a dozen pools downwards, following the slope, and use canals to divert water. This way, the water in each pool won't circulate, so it's all clean, and the temperature gets lower as you go down."
"As for the water in the spring, you can drink it or use it for other purposes. The main thing is that soaking in the hot spring is very comfortable. It would be a waste if the groundwater is not used. If you use it for hot springs..."
"This is a great idea!" Before Mei Yang could finish, the pink-haired male elf interrupted him hastily, "You are a genius!"
The male elf had just reached adulthood and his personality was not particularly stable yet. He was so excited that he couldn't help but pinch Mei Yang's face, then snatched the small branch from the black-haired cub's hand and quickly began to draw on Mei Yang's sketch.
The elf was indeed a master architect with great artistic talent. The male elf drew the general structure of the hot spring with just a few strokes, and it was exactly the same as the hot spring that Mei Yang bathed in hundreds of years later!
It seems that this pink-haired male elf is the real designer of the Elf Hot Spring.
Seeing the two adults discussing in detail, Mei Yang quietly slipped away and went to some elves who were doing odd jobs, asking them if they were willing to open a store and what style of billboards they liked.
Basically every time, he only needed to write some three-dimensional words on his small drawing board and roughly outline the style of the logo, and the elves would naturally take the brush from his hand and perfect the specific appearance on Mei Yang's draft.
Mei Yang was very happy with the helping work he did in the morning.
He was like a butterfly, flitting around every corner, tirelessly greeting the adults who loved him, and then helping with small tasks like running errands and delivering messages.
After lunch, Mei Yang felt sleepy and, at Tanxi's suggestion, decided to take a nap under the woods at the edge of the forest.
Lying on the green grass with his eyes closed, golden spots of light still flickered across Mei Yang's eyelids. He seemed to have entered a flow state, his consciousness chasing the spots of light, and finally he fell into a deep sleep.
…
When he woke up again, Mei Yang opened his eyes and saw a sika deer with particularly large eyes sniffing his cheek.
Seeing Mei Yang wake up, the sika deer was frightened. Instead of running away, it bit Mei Yang's hair.
"Hiss—" Mei Yang subconsciously reached out to pull his hair.
The deer finally came to its senses, let him go, and ran into the depths of the forest in panic.
Mei Yang quickly got up and chased after him.
He didn't intend to do anything to the beautiful little deer, but he suddenly felt like playing with it.
But the little animals were obviously much more agile than humans. After chasing for a while, Mei Yang lost them. He was not very familiar with this forest. After circling around for a while, Mei Yang planned to find the way he came so that he could follow the footprints back. However, he didn't expect that behind him, there was a pair of big orange-yellow eyes, staring at him with a cold gaze - a spotted tiger was crawling in the grass, with its back arched, quietly planning a hunt.
Just when Mei Yang finally found the footprints he came from, a short sound of breaking through the air was heard. Mei Yang subconsciously looked forward and saw an arrow shooting towards him.
Mei Yang was so frightened that he stood there in a daze. He had no time to react at all.
In just a few seconds, the arrow grazed Mei Yang's cheek. Mei Yang turned around and stared at the tiger that was hit by the arrow.
He was so frightened that he sat down on the ground, and the tiger roared, looked at him viciously, and turned and ran away.
"Why are you here?" A familiar voice came from behind. It was the Elf King.
Mei Yang was so frightened that he didn't answer. The moose came over with the Elf King holding a bow and arrow. The Elf King jumped down, walked around to Mei Yang, squatted down, pinched the black-haired cub's chin and observed it carefully. He found that the sharp tail feathers of the arrow had scratched the cub's face, leaving a light red mark on the fair and tender cheek.
He uttered a string of chants, and Mei Yang felt his cheeks warm up, and the wound healed in an instant.
The Elf King then stood up with satisfaction.
"Wow!" Mei Yang finally reacted and threw himself into the Elf King's arms, howling.
He was so scared! How could there be such a big tiger?
Mei Yang was about to complain to his parents, but the Elf King's expression suddenly changed. He grabbed Mei Yang by the back of the collar and lifted him onto the moose's back.
The moose understood and ran wildly through the forest.
"What's wrong?" Mei Yang asked blankly.
He didn't even have time to act coquettishly when Rumi ran away like his butt was on fire.
"Emergency - the mother tree told me that an elf cub is about to be born." said the Elf King.
The elf cub was born... Mei Yang's eyes lit up, and he thought of his rainbow-haired friends.
Hehehe, this time, I will witness your birth with my own eyes.
Mei Yang asked impatiently, "Are there five?"
The Elf King lowered his head and gave him a strange look.
How did Mei Yang know that five elf cubs were going to be born?
