Chapter 47 I Don't Want to Be Here

Chapter 47 I Don't Want to Be Here

The early autumn wind brushed against my cheeks, bringing a slight stinging sensation.

Wang Yan felt like he had just had a nightmare.

And now the nightmare has not only not stopped, but continues.

Wang Yan, with a white cloth tied around his waist, knelt before his mother's corpse.

The loudspeaker blared throughout Changgang Village, and the once empty courtyards were soon overflowing with people.

The father entertained the crowd, but no one seemed to care.

It was as if an animal had died, not a person.

Wang Yan's brothers and sisters seemed to have anticipated this.

There was no trace of sadness on their faces. They calmly discussed how to handle the funeral arrangements, whether to buy a coffin or bury the ashes directly in an urn.

The final conclusion was that we should not buy a coffin and bury the child directly, as this would be the cheapest option.

Wang Yan listened to every word they said, and he felt he couldn't bear to stay any longer.

This is the result of their mother's lifelong dedication.

He didn't even get a coffin after he died.

This house was like a man-eating beast, chewing it up to pieces, bones and all.

Wang Yan stood up in a panic and rushed into the bedroom without hesitation.

"What's wrong?"

Seeing Wang Yan so flustered, Su Yueming, who was sitting on the big bed, thought something had happened.

He quickly stood up and reached out to catch Wang Yan's body.

“Let’s go, let’s leave this place.” Wang Yan’s voice was hoarse, and his dark eyes were surrounded by bloodshot veins. “I don’t want to stay here any longer.”

"Okay, let's go."

Su Yueming didn't ask why; he unconditionally obeyed all of Wang Yan's orders.

While everyone was busy and no one was paying attention, Wang Yan led Su Yueming out of the bedroom and quickly left this so-called home.

Around 11 a.m. every day, large buses pass through Changgang Village.

Wang Yan and Su Yueming arrived at just the right time; the bus arrived just as they stepped onto the asphalt road.

Only after getting back onto the bus did Wang Yan finally let out a heavy sigh of relief.

My body felt as if my spine had been removed; I slumped against the back of the chair, unable to recover for a long time.

Su Yueming knew that Wang Yan was on the verge of a breakdown, so he didn't disturb him and gave him some quiet space.

He turned his head to look at Wang Yan, feeling as if his heart was being gripped tightly by an invisible hand, making him feel pain with every breath.

He truly had no idea that Wang Yan's childhood would be so difficult, nor did he know how he had endured it.

While Wang Yan was kneeling outside the door, wearing mourning clothes for his mother, someone took the opportunity to enter the bedroom.

She was a middle-aged woman, and she had sunflower seeds in her pocket.

"I heard from Lao Wang that you are Wang Yan's friend?"

The woman was eating sunflower seeds and talking at the same time, spitting saliva all the way.

Su Yueming frowned slightly at the title, though he was actually quite dissatisfied with it.

But he couldn't refute it, so he could only give a perfunctory "Mm".

"Tsk tsk tsk." The old woman shook her head, her gaze falling on Su Yueming. "Truly, a son from a poor family can be exceptional. If Old Wang knew that his son could be so successful, he definitely wouldn't have agreed to give his son to his older brother."

The word "adoption" pierced Su Yueming's brain like a needle.

What are you saying?

"Look at me, why did I say so much?" The woman slapped her mouth as if suddenly realizing something. "He didn't tell you about this."

"No." Su Yueming told the truth; he really wanted to know about Wang Yan's past. "Would you mind telling me?"

"That's not good," the woman said, though her eyes were practically brimming with gossip. "But since you're so eager to know, I'll tell you."

Thus, Su Yueming learned about Wang Yan's past from her.

After telling the story, the woman spat the sunflower seed shells all over the ground. Seeing that Su Yueming was no longer talking, she pursed her lips and tactfully left.

Su Yueming blinked his sore eyes, and he suddenly remembered Wang Yan from his high school days.

He is like a poplar tree ravaged by a fierce wind, possessing an indomitable will.

He reached out and covered Wang Yan's hand with his own, but before Su Yueming could even grip it tightly, he noticed that Wang Yan's body temperature was abnormal.

It was burning hot, clearly exceeding normal body temperature.

Without hesitation, Su Yueming placed his palm on Wang Yan's forehead. It was obvious that Wang Yan had a fever.

"Wake up, wake up quickly."

Su Yueming nudged Wang Yan's shoulder.

Wang Yan felt a headache coming on and his eyelids were heavy. He struggled to open his eyes and look at Su Yueming.

"What's wrong?"

"You have a fever."

At this moment, Wang Yan also realized that something was wrong with his situation.

The scenery outside the bus window flashed by, but Wang Yan knew that the bus had arrived in the town.

"We're getting off here."

Wang Yan took Su Yueming's hand and walked unsteadily to the back door of the car.

The driver immediately understood and stopped the car.

They got off the car together. Although the town wasn't as bustling as City A, at least there were hotels and pharmacies, so they could make do for the night.

"I went to middle school here."

Wang Yan roused himself and spoke to Su Yueming.

Su Yueming raised an eyebrow. "I hope I'll have the chance to go and see it."

"No problem, but it might not be possible today." Wang Yan's face was flushed from a high fever. "Let's make do here for the night and return to City A tomorrow."

"I'm fine with either."

Wang Yan nodded, his throat starting to itch. "Then let's go find a hotel first."

After walking eastward for about ten minutes, Wang Yan finally found the hotel he remembered.

Hotels in these small towns tend to turn a blind eye to many things, so Wang Yan successfully booked a double room.

Wang Yan swiped his room card to open the door and collapsed onto the large bed.

He was so dizzy that he felt like he was on an oven.

He forced himself to pick up his phone and bought some medicine online, then waited for the delivery guy to bring it to him.

In less than twenty minutes of delivery time, Wang Yan fell asleep while waiting.

Su Yueming looked at the sleeping Wang Yan, raised his hand and covered him with the blanket to make sure he wouldn't get cold.

There was a knock on the door, and Su Yueming knew it was the deliveryman.

He opened the door and took the packaging bag.

Inside are some fever reducers and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Su Yueming carefully read the instructions and made sure there were no side effects after taking the two medications together before he dared to give them to Wang Yan.

Holding the medicine in one hand and unscrewing the bottle of mineral water on the table with the other, he knelt on one knee on the bed and approached Wang Yan.

He lifted the sleeping Wang Yan with his arm.

Wang Yan opened his eyes groggily and saw Su Yueming's figure.

"After taking the medicine, your cold will be better tomorrow."

Wang Yan obediently opened his mouth, and swallowed the pill with water.

In a daze, Wang Yan saw Su Yueming from his high school days.

He stood up for him from the bullying, and he didn't pretend to be aloof.

Instead, she said thank you to Su Yueming.
