A worthy death
Chu Sinian took a bottle of "Rare Series 1926" Macallan, which was touted as the pinnacle of taste back then. He bought it but never tasted it, so he didn't know if it was true or not.
He took the wine back to the living room and, hearing Ning Zicheng's loud voice, couldn't help but push him and sit down on the sofa himself. "My ears are going to go deaf. Uncle Huang is going to be hospitalized because of your noise."
Before Ning Zicheng could even start her rampage, Kong Bo immediately spoke up, "What day is it today that you've decided to bring your good wine over?"
Ning Zicheng chuckled and said, "Look, I've known him for so long and he's never treated me to such precious wine. You guys have good stuff as soon as you arrive."
Chu Sinian retorted, "Stop talking nonsense. Haven't you had enough drinks at my house?"
Yu Shi leaned in and said with a grin, "Brother Si Nian, I can drink now too."
Chu Sinian pressed his head down and pushed it back, saying, "Being able to drink doesn't mean you can drink a lot. I might have to make a living selling alcohol in the future."
He made a joke that was half-serious, but Kong Bo, who was standing next to him, knew that he wasn't joking.
Once the Chu family falls, all the collateral branches and minor relatives will try to seize and divide the enormous fortune left behind. Even if Chu Sinian has the ability, he will not compete for it.
He loathed Chu Zhuang and had long harbored the ambition to squander all of his money, wishing he could give away all his wealth.
He was single-mindedly focused on sending Chu Zhuang and the entire powerful Chu clan to prison, and he didn't care about anything else.
Once Chu Zhuang falls, not only will his assets be seized, but those shady companies that dragged him into this mess will never let Chu Sinian off the hook, and he will definitely be kicked out of the elite class.
By then, the ten bodyguards Ning Zicheng hired would be nothing more than a drop in the ocean.
Kombo adjusted his glasses. "Don't you like astronomy? Why don't you stay in Chile and sell wine there?" he asked, half-jokingly and half-seriously.
"What are you talking about? What kind of wine does Chu Sinian need to sell? Chile isn't a place for people to live. What nonsense are you spouting?" Ning Zicheng asked, puzzled. "I have to have a good taste of your wine today." He chuckled twice.
Yu Shi stared wide-eyed, looking back and forth between Kong Bo and Chu Sinian. After a few moments, he seemed to understand something, pursed his lips, and said, "Brother, come to Germany. Mom is slowly handing over the family business to me. There are still many things I don't understand, and I need your help."
Chu Sinian smiled upon hearing this, shook his head, and raised his hand to pat his head. "I don't have much to teach you either. I'm not familiar with business either. You might as well ask Kong Bo more questions."
Kong Bo agreed, "Yes, Yu Shi, you can ask me if you don't understand anything. We might even have to work together in the future."
Ning Zicheng squeezed into the conversation, "Why are we suddenly talking about work? It's still early! What are you worrying about? Take advantage of your youth and have fun!"
When Kong Bo and Chu Sinian discussed this, they looked at each other and smiled, agreeing, "You're right, let's enjoy poetry and wine while we're young."
Uncle Huang quickly prepared the meal, and each person was given a plate and brought to the table.
Uncle Huang untied his apron, washed his hands, and walked to the dining table. Watching the group of young children happily eating together, his eyes actually welled up with tears.
He rubbed his hands together and sat down. Looking at Chu Sinian, who seemed relaxed and carefree, his eyes reddened. He quickly turned his head away, awkwardly rubbed his knees together, and picked up his chopsticks.
Chu Sinian picked up some food and put it in his bowl, saying, "Uncle Huang, please eat first. Thank you for your hard work."
None of them touched their chopsticks, but watched with smiles as Uncle Huang ate before they started eating.
Kong Bo hadn't seen Chu Sinian like this in a long time. After swallowing what was in his mouth, he asked, "What are your plans for the future?"
"Let's take it one step at a time." Chu Sinian didn't hide the casualness in his eyes. He gently suppressed his smile, as if the past and the future had all rolled into the deep sea, and he no longer cared about them or paid them any attention.
Kong Bo looked disapproving. "This isn't something that can be decided arbitrarily."
Ning Zicheng only half understood what Kong Bo was talking about. Seeing Kong Bo's serious expression, she turned to Yu Shi and asked, "What are they talking about?"
Yu Shi said, "Let's talk about our future."
"What's there to talk about? Does Chu Sinian still need to worry about his future?"
Yu Shi looked at this seemingly foolish landlord's son and was speechless for a moment. "Do you know about Si Nian's family?"
Ning Zicheng shook his head.
Yu Shi immediately understood. He patted Ning Zicheng and said, "It's good that you don't know. Don't ask him, or he'll get angry."
Over there, Chu Sinian was engaged in a heated debate with Kong Bo, saying, "I've thought about this enough over the years, so it's quite exhilarating to just do it without considering the consequences."
"Enough already. There's still room for maneuver if you stop now."
The Chu family has not yet found any evidence sufficient to warrant imprisonment, and everything can be salvaged. After all, his adoptive father, Chu Zhuang, only has him as his heir.
Fate seemed determined to ruin Chu Zhuang at the hands of his own son, and despite Chu Zhuang's efforts to preserve his lineage, the only child he had was the one born to his deceased wife.
If Chu Sinian truly intends to overthrow the dynasty, then this is Chu Zhuang's fate, his retribution.
"You don't need to persuade me." Chu Sinian said seriously.
“Even without Xiao Yu’s involvement, I would have brought Chu Zhuang down anyway. This time, I was just going with the flow. He did something wrong and deserves to be punished,” Chu Sinian said calmly.
Kong Bo's expression changed slightly. He sighed inwardly and didn't try to persuade him further. "Once you've made up your mind, not even ten horses can pull you back. A new company has recently emerged in the market with a huge appetite. It's taking advantage of the market's ups and downs to acquire many industries, including Tianrui Company. This newcomer has drawn attention to you, and now everyone's busy fighting a business war. It's almost a complete mess."
Chu Sinian was taken aback, and quickly searched his memory of Tianrui. "Tianrui is Chen Chi's company?"
"right."
Chu Sinian frowned slowly. "How did it end up being swallowed up by him? What's the name of that new company?"
"Silian Technology".
How could someone with Chen Chi's strong personality let his company be swallowed up? Is he really that clueless about business?
Chu Sinian thought to himself.
He hadn't seen Chen Chi since that day, nor had he heard any news about him. It was as if he had vanished without a trace, leaving behind only a bunch of absurd words.
During this time, he would think about the past from time to time. Time passed quickly, and the pile of academic and career tasks came up all at once, but he couldn't suppress his memories of Chen Chi.
He said he was short of money, so short that he had to sell the company?
The meal lasted a long time, and Ning Zicheng and Yu Shi were both so drunk that they couldn't stand up. Seeing their state, Chu Sinian simply let them stay overnight.
Kong Bo and Uncle Huang then helped Chu Sinian settle the two drunken men down before leaving.
A lingering, chilly atmosphere filled the room. Chu Sinian suddenly felt a void in his mouth, as if he needed to eat something. He pondered this unusual feeling, wondering if it stemmed from loneliness.
Chu Sinian smiled suddenly, as if he had rarely felt this way since entering university.
He took out his phone and called his assistant, his voice tinged with the weariness of the party: "How's it going over there?"
"Everything is going according to plan."
"You did a good job. After the company is dissolved, I will compensate you according to the early termination standards. If needed, I can provide you with recommendation letters."
The assistant quickly thanked him, "Thank you, sir. Now we don't have to worry about laid-off employees not finding jobs." He hesitated for a moment before adding, "Sir, will you start a company again in the future? If you're interested, I'd like to continue working as your assistant."
Chu Sinian smiled and said, "Probably not. I'm not interested in the financial industry. You could work for my uncle Chu Xialang's company. They have a good work environment, and my uncle is a very upright person."
He paused, then continued, "You'll probably be targeted by those companies if you work under me. Tomorrow, once the evidence that could land my father in jail appears, the focus will be on the central figure. The trip to Singapore that I asked you to prepare a few days ago is for you; the plane ticket is for tomorrow morning, right?"
The assistant already had suspicions about the trip to Singapore.
The gentleman is currently in the eye of the storm, so why would he choose to travel during this time? Furthermore, his insistence on having the most stringent security measures is not in line with his personality.
Chu Sinian had always loved freedom, and this was no different from restricting him.
Unexpectedly, it was confirmed today. The assistant said, "Yes, but sir, what will you do after I leave? The company has been laying off people one after another. If they are looking for someone, they will definitely come to you."
"It's alright, go ahead and relax," Chu Sinian reassured him. "I'm just paying your salary, not asking you to work for me. When you come back, you can go directly to work at Chu Xialang's company."
The assistant, a man in his twenties, was almost in tears. "Yes, sir, may you be well and safe."
Chu Si laughed softly, "Thank you for your kind words."
The winter night was filled with a desolate atmosphere, yet a lush light fell into the dark room.
The snow-white blanket stirred slightly, and a pair of eyes with upturned corners opened, their dark blue pupils mirroring the stillness of the night.
Chu Sinian slowly closed his eyes, and the moonlight reflected on his face appeared and disappeared, gradually being replaced by a faint white light, until the first light of day appeared.
As dawn broke, the shrill ringing of the alarm clock echoed through the quiet bedroom, growing louder with each ring.
A pale, slender hand picked up the phone. He glanced at the caller, answered, and then moved the phone further away.
"Chu Sinian, are you crazy? I handed over half of the company to you, and this is how you treat me?! I'm your father, do you know that?"
"You beast, you have no regard for your own family! You're determined to send your own father to prison. Now that I'm going to jail, do you think you'll have a good end? Those people are eyeing you like hawks, just waiting for me to fall so they can tear you apart. If I can't survive, do you think you can?"
Chu Sinian rubbed his temples, his eyes half-closed.
"Put your things away right now! I still consider you my son, don't you hear me?!"
"Are you deaf, Chu Sinian? You should know you're still surnamed Chu!" The middle-aged man on the other end of the phone threatened and accused hysterically, which annoyed Chu Sinian, who was trapped in his sleep and didn't want to wake up.
He picked up his phone again, turned down the volume, and held it to his ear, "Chu Zhuang."
"I am connected to you by blood. I inherited your wealth and naturally, I also inherited your cold-bloodedness. As ruthless as you are, I am just as heartless. Isn't it ridiculous that you talk to me about kinship now?"
"When you were happily playing around with men, did you never think about the son you had? When you were recklessly having affairs, did you never think about your wife?"
"Now you talk to me about kinship, I'd rather I had never been born. I find the blood that connects me to you disgusting."
Chu Zhuang on the other end of the phone was stunned for a long time. "Chu Sinian," he said, his voice trembling with disbelief, "you rebellious beast, have you gone mad?!"
The rebellious beast chuckled and said, "The moment I opened the bookcase, I went mad. Whether Chu Zhuang goes to jail or not has nothing to do with me. Even if they bite me to death, I can atone for my sins and die with a clear conscience."
"Before I die, I'll send you, a sinner, to jail. That will be a good deed for my next life."
Chu Sinian laughed out loud, "I'm so happy, Chu Zhuang, I've never been this happy before." He hung up the phone.
Chu Sinian lost his phone and lay back on the soft bed, his body sinking deep into the thick quilt. A few rays of sunlight streamed down his face through the partially closed curtains.
A beam of light leaped into the deep blue sea, dispelling the darkness and chaos. He raised his hand and tapped his forehead with his knuckles, then slowly chuckled, each laugh clearer and louder than the last, cracking the old, solidified ruins and ending the filth on a winter's day as usual.
The bright sunlight fell on Chu Sinian's eyes, and a shimmering light danced and flowed into the soft pillow.
