At your door
The chain of evidence in the Hua Rui incident is still unclear. After nearly a month of investigation, only some fragmented clues and Yi Rou's verbal descriptions have been pieced together to form the beginning and end of the Hua Rui incident. The specific criminal matters are still unknown.
Xiao Yu knew he had gone too far, so he dealt with the group of princes very cleanly.
This is not something that Chu Sinian can handle perfectly by entrusting any force other than the police. After all, he is not a savior, nor does he have superpowers.
Chu Sinian glanced at the guest room where Yi Rou was sleeping, sighed, and said, "It's late. Do you want to take a taxi home or sleep here?"
The assistant blinked at him. "Can I sleep here?"
"Yes, there are many rooms here, you can choose one yourself." After saying that, Chu Sinian went back to his room.
The assistant went to a room to sleep, while Chu Sinian sat motionless on the edge of the bed for a long time.
It was late at night, and there were no stars in the Beijing city area. Sometimes a few clouds would drift by and completely block out the moon, making the already dark night seem pale and powerless.
I had many dreams throughout the night.
The next day, the assistant got up and washed up full of energy. He thought 7:30 was early, but Yi Rou was even earlier than him.
After a night of emotional adjustment, the young woman looked much better and even managed a slight smile when she saw her assistant.
The assistant was very pleased. He had ordered breakfast in advance and had it delivered. Yi Rou originally wanted to wait for Chu Sinian to arrive before eating, but the assistant told her, "No need, Mr. Chu doesn't mind these things. Please eat first. It will take half an hour for him to get up."
Yi Rou ignored him, saying, "I can eat later. I'll wait for Mr. Chu to come so we can eat together."
Seeing that he couldn't persuade him, the assistant stopped trying and started wolfing down his breakfast. He knew today would be busy, and he also knew that once the boss got busy, he wouldn't have time to eat.
Moreover, the matter is so urgent that I'll probably be running around non-stop.
As it turned out, the assistant's prediction was correct.
Chu Sinian got up not long after. He instructed his assistant to arrange a meeting with the police. After breakfast, he began to visit and meet with them one by one.
He made all the arrangements, notifying them in advance, and spent the entire morning without taking a break. He then took Yi Rou to meet the people they had arranged to meet that morning.
They were not familiar with each other, having only heard of each other's names within the industry.
He led Yi Rou into the office and handed her the well-organized documents. "Sir, after you have read them, please allow the girl beside me to tell you what happened."
Yi Rou, smelling the faint scent of books and ink in the office, awkwardly hid behind Chu Sinian. He gently patted her hand, signaling her to relax.
The elder's expression grew increasingly grim as he read the lines of text.
The only sound in the room was the faint rustling of sunlight hitting the dust. The long ray of light fell on Yi Rou's slightly dry hands, and she moved her fingertips to catch the dust particles in the air.
Suddenly, the elder put down the paper and looked at Yi Rou with sharp eyes. "Child, please tell me the whole story."
Yi Rou pursed her lips and recounted everything she knew in detail.
Inside the room came the girl's clear yet timid voice, but there was no weakness, no sobbing, only gentle firmness.
The girl straightened her back, which had been bent over for so long, and said calmly, "Thank you for listening. I also hope that this truth, which has been buried for so long, can finally be revealed to the world."
Chu Sinian nodded to him, "I have made my purpose clear today, and I hope you will restart the investigation as soon as possible. If there are no further questions, I will take my leave."
The warm winter sun shone into the spacious and bright office. The elder, clutching a stack of loosely pieced-together clues, watched the two figures about to leave and spoke: "Children, we will not tolerate any criminal, nor will we let them go. I apologize for burying the truth, but please believe us, we will definitely give you an explanation."
Yi Rou smiled slightly and followed Chu Sinian away.
The next meal was at three o'clock in the afternoon.
The assistant once again brought the chef to their home and prepared a meal for them in advance.
Chu Sinian's stomach was empty and aching, so he ate a little faster than usual. His hands trembled slightly when he picked up food, and Yi Rou noticed this and asked, "Are you feeling unwell, sir?"
After Chu Sinian had his neck and shoulder examined at the hospital, he only applied medicine that day. He came to Beijing to deal with one problem after another, and had no time to care about his own condition.
As a result, when he woke up this morning, his shoulder was slightly sore. As time went on, the pain did not subside at all, but instead became more and more severe.
Now even his upper arm is starting to hurt. Chu Sinian was quite helpless: "It's nothing, just a problem with my neck and shoulders. It'll be fine in a few days."
Yi Rou still asked worriedly, so Chu Sinian told a few jokes to change the subject. After Yi Rou finished eating, he told her to go back to her room to rest, while he called his assistant to go back to his own room.
He sat on the cushion, looking somewhat weary, and said, "Help me apply some medicine." As he spoke, he slowly took off his shirt because of the pain.
The assistant meticulously applied the plaster, examining it closely as he said, "Sir, this area is swollen."
Chu Sinian subconsciously turned around, but saw nothing.
He asked, "Is it badly swollen?"
"It's alright, just a little bit."
"Hmm, it should be better in a few days."
The assistant advised, "I'll arrange for a doctor to come and take a look at you."
"Need not."
Just then, a phone rang. Chu Sinian picked up his phone and frowned.
It was Chen Chi calling.
He hovered his fingertip over the screen for a few seconds before pressing the answer button.
"What is it?" Chu Sinian asked.
"Are you free tomorrow? You still owe me a meal."
Chu Sinian was speechless. Why was there still that meal? He thought Chen Chi would forget about it in a few days, but he still called to question him.
He replied, "I'm busy."
The other person paused for a moment, then asked, "What are you busy with?"
"None of your business." He hung up the phone.
He was incredibly busy. The reopening of the Hua Rui case would undoubtedly cause a huge uproar, and even someone with his powerful background might struggle to protect himself, let alone deal with these meaningless dinner parties.
The assistant, seeing Chu Sinian's slightly furrowed expression, said, "Sir, the medicine has been applied. You can take it off in fifteen minutes."
He snapped out of his reverie and nodded. "How is Yi Rou?"
"That's good, she went back to her room to sleep."
Where are her parents?
"On its way, it will arrive in Beijing around 7 or 8 pm."
"Yes, once they arrive, let them stay here and assign several people to guard them."
Chu Sinian gave several more instructions, which his assistant readily agreed to.
After seven o'clock, he left the Wanliu Academy, which had extremely strict security, and went to a small house he had bought before the New Year.
The buildings here are larger than those at Wanliu Academy, but the security isn't as tight.
Chu Sinian had a late lunch, and by 7:30 he still wasn't hungry, so he went straight to take a shower, change his clothes, and go to his bedroom, ready to wait for sleep to come.
He visited quite a few people today, and he has made his stance clear: he will bear all the consequences.
It was only after this trip that he realized that those princes had caused quite a bit of trouble in private. He consulted a lawyer, and the total amount of trouble, big and small, was enough to warrant a life sentence, or even worse.
The insiders he visited had long wanted to take action against them, but due to the princes' clandestine collusion, their combined power was too great to be shaken by one person alone. His visit today served as a bridge, bringing together the positive forces to join forces and wipe them out in one fell swoop.
What surprised him most was that the corruption in this circle had reached such a level.
Chu Sinian didn't consider himself a saint. That day, when he saw Xiao Yu with girls on both sides of his arms, he wasn't unmoved, nor was he tempted. Instead, anger rose up involuntarily.
When he saw girls who had gone astray, he always thought of his mother.
Zhong Lin is a successful woman, but compared to her appearance that others admire, that is her least noteworthy advantage.
She is resolute, brave, independent, hardworking, and compassionate.
When Chu Zhuang realized that he couldn't win her over through normal means, he used her sympathy as a starting point to weave an unparalleled and grand trap for her. He was both cold and affectionate, and the talent bestowed upon him by heaven was actually lying.
He once thought it was utterly absurd that a person could be so contradictory. Chu Zhuang was infatuated with all things that were beautiful, whether male or female, they were nothing more than playthings in his hands.
The man he had met in his childhood was abandoned by Chu Zhuang at a young age. Chu Zhuang even tortured and imprisoned him in secret to avenge Zhong Lin, forcing him to come and beg for help.
Compared to that man, Chu Sinian hated Chu Zhuang even more, this hypocritical, affectionate, and ruthless man.
He once thought that his mother's suicide was due to Chu Zhuang's unbridled infidelity, but when he followed in his mother's footsteps on the path of scientific research, he found it all laughable.
He gradually came to understand that his mother's suffocating and broken expression beside that bookshelf, and her daily seclusion, were not for the sake of a morally corrupt Chu Zhuang.
Instead, they mourned the passing of their prime years.
This emotional dream was confined not only by her shattered love, but also by her devoted scientific research, her unyielding spirit, and her precious and beloved talent.
Zhong Lin sacrificed his life for the glory days of his youth.
For this reason, he despised parasitic women who clung to men, disliked successful women entering into marriage, and even more so, hated his own resentment and powerlessness.
Having witnessed far too many outrageous desires, he immediately recognized Yi Rou's uniqueness.
He was grateful for his keen perception, grateful that his conscience had not yet been extinguished by assimilation, and even more grateful that Yi Rou was still Yi Rou.
He was grateful that he was able to lend a helping hand before despair, grateful that the truth could still come out, and grateful that fate had spared this poor girl.

Chu Sinian woke up at around 2 a.m. He was awakened by his cell phone ringing. Before he could even think about which lunatic would call at this hour, he was startled by the voice on the other end.
"Chu Sinian".
Chu Sinian suddenly opened his sleepy eyes and couldn't help but curse, "Are you sick? Don't you know what time it is?"
Chu Sinian wanted to hang up the phone and go back to sleep.
"I'm at your doorstep."
Chu Sinian sat up. "What did you say?"
"Open the door to your house."
