Disappointed people

Disappointed people

That earth-shattering sound came from a stranger.

The bar's loudspeakers couldn't drown out his voice as he shouted, "Chu Sinian! Chu Sinian, where are you? Chu Sinian!"

The staff member walked over helplessly, trying to dissuade him from his bandit-like shouting, but Yi Fan waved his hand and said, "Chu Sinian is here."

The stranger strode over.

The newcomer was in his prime, with striking orange hair, eyes that were neither round nor narrow, exuding vigor and arrogance, a hard face, and a tall stature.

He glanced around, his expression unfriendly, and helped Chu Sinian up. "Brother, I apologize for disturbing you."

Li Liao said, "Are you leaving now that you've finished bothering me?"

He stopped, put his hand on Chu Sinian's shoulder, and looked at him, "What do you mean?"

"It's a misunderstanding, we go to the same school."

Ning Zicheng looked puzzled.

"Dong'an University, is that right?"

"Depend on."

Ning Zicheng helped the people sit down, "What are your names?"

"I am Li Liao, he is Zhang Xiu, and this is Yi Fan."

"Are you the first-year graduate student team that made it to the ACM finals a few days ago?"

"I heard you guys made it to the final round of the National Scholarship competition. Are you out celebrating?" Ning Zicheng asked, her bright eyes scanning the room without any hesitation. "Why are there only three of you?"

Li Liao recognized that this person must be a rich young master, and chuckled, "You're also from Dongda University? You've been out too late, they've all left."

"Yeah, I just finished hanging out with friends. It's only nine o'clock, not late at all." Ning Zicheng glanced silently at the glass being swept away on the ground, smiled, and asked, "I heard there's some discord within your team, is that true?"

Li Liao's expression remained unchanged, but Zhang Xiu's face darkened.

"That's not true, junior. We rely on our coach for our livelihood." Li Liao raised his glass to him and took a sip.

Ning Zicheng seemed to be deep in thought and did not ask any further questions.

Li Liao and his group returned home after chatting for only a short time.

Ning Zicheng then took Chu Sinian to a hotel, booked a room, and called someone to send over some hangover soup.

Chu Sinian fell asleep the moment he touched the sofa, and Ning Zicheng, feeling a headache coming on, called a doctor. She went to the sofa to check on him and said, "Young Master, I only left you out for a moment and you've already drunk this much. Do you want to die?"

Chu Sinian ignored him, and Ning Zicheng suddenly felt a surge of anger. "Is it really worth it for Yu Shi?"

Ning Zicheng had also drunk quite a bit and wasn't very clear-headed. Only after the hangover soup and the doctor arrived and confirmed that Chu Sinian was alright did he feel relieved enough to take a shower.

The next day, the sun shone through the huge glass windows, climbed onto the solid wood floor, and slowly crept onto the bed along the white quilt that was half-fallen to the floor.

The eyelids, seemingly with visible veins, trembled slightly, and in an instant, a pair of dark blue pupils were exposed to the sunlight.

Chu Sinian blinked and propped himself up. Sunlight streamed into the room, warm and dazzling.

He closed his eyes uncomfortably, turned his head and saw Ning Zicheng sleeping soundly to the side. After briefly recalling last night, he got up and went to the bathroom.

In the bright light in front of the mirror, the person's face appeared pale, and when not smiling, their eyes were cold and indifferent. The prominent brow bone and bridge of the nose cut through the light, casting a faint shadow on their moderately thick lips.

He took off his shirt, which reeked of smoke and alcohol, and after a quick wash, he walked out of the bathroom.

He still felt a burning emptiness in his stomach. Chu Sinian leaned against the sofa, propped his head up with his left hand, and held the hotel landline in his right hand, calling the hotel staff to order lunch.

A cool breeze blew from the built-in air conditioner on the ceiling, ruffling the hair that had fallen on his eyes. He blinked, the wind blowing quietly as he slowly pondered the lingering memories of last night.

He hadn't drunk alcohol for a long time after his surgery, but at yesterday's gathering, he couldn't resist the alcohol as soon as it entered his mouth. No one around him dared to persuade him, and he ended up getting completely drunk.

Chu Sinian called someone to prepare some stomach-soothing soup, and after lunch, he left the hotel without saying goodbye.

The driver, who had been waiting for him, was downstairs.

The driver handed him some medicine as soon as he saw him. Chu Sinian thanked him as usual and leaned against the window to rest with his eyes closed.

"Sir, you need to take care of your health and should stop drinking alcohol."

Chu Sinian looked ahead and saw a concerned look in the rearview mirror. He smiled and said, "Uncle Huang, don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

Uncle Huang frowned upon hearing this, his face filled with worry. But seeing the other person's somewhat weak expression, he didn't say anything more.

Chu Sinian arrived home quickly.

After entering the house, he went straight to the bathroom to take a shower, and soaked in it for more than an hour before coming out wrapped in a bathrobe, his body still steaming.

He opened the refrigerator, the stack of bottles clinking softly. Without looking at it, Chu Sinian took out a bottle of mineral water, drank it, and walked to the sofa to sit down.

As soon as I turned on my phone, messages started popping up like crazy.

Fang Xue: Are you alright?

Fang Xue: I have some good news for you.

Fang Xue: Didn't Yu Shi say yesterday that he got back together with his girlfriend? You didn't expect that, did you? They broke up again just one night later.

Fang Xue: You have another chance, young master!

Chu Sinian scrolled through the bombing messages with a blank expression.

He put down his phone, then picked it up again, and tapped on the profile picture labeled "Yu Shi".

The chat interface is filled with the other person's densely packed text, from happiness to sadness, and finally fading into silence.

Chu Sinian glanced at it and replied: [School officially starts tomorrow. You have class at 8 a.m., remember to eat breakfast and go to bed early.]

After replying, he put down his phone and turned to pack his luggage.

The apartment is not far from the school, only two kilometers away, so there's no need for him to stay there. His application for off-campus accommodation, submitted to the guide, hasn't been approved yet and is expected to take some time.

Chu Sinian packed a few simple bags and asked Uncle Huang to take him to school.

Dong'an University is a top-tier institution with incredibly high admission scores; the number of students admitted each year can be counted on one hand.

Chu Sinian got off the bus with his luggage. As soon as he entered the school gate, a huge welcome sign was placed overhead, and many people were standing on the steps on both sides. All kinds of clubs were scattered on both sides, looking like they were about to devour people.

Chu Sinian silently quickened his pace, subtly dodging the outstretched hand and protecting his suitcase, and walked safely out of the wolf pack.

Just then, a message popped up on his phone. Chu Sinian opened it and saw that it was from Ning Zicheng.

Giant Orange: [I'm so lonely. I've already arrived at school.]

Chu Sinian was somewhat surprised: "You're all packed so quickly?"

Giant Orange: [A real man never procrastinates.]

Chu Sinian ignored him and carried his luggage to the fourth floor.

He walked to the corresponding door number, took out his key and was about to insert it when the door opened from the back.

Before Chu Sinian could even be surprised, a familiar face suddenly appeared before him.

He had bright orange hair, a face radiating sunshine, and a tall stature.

"Chu Sinian?!"

Chu Sinian was also somewhat surprised, "How come it's you?"

Ning Zicheng was still stunned, "Holy crap, you fucking went through the back door behind my back?!"

Chu Sinian glanced around the dormitory. It was a comfortable and bright four-person room. Except for Ning Zicheng's spot, which he had messed up a bit, the rest was very tidy.

Chu Sinian took out some disinfectant and wiped the chair, then lazily sat down. "I don't have your airs."

"Aren't you staying out? Has your accommodation application not been approved yet?"

Chu Sinian began disinfecting the table, "It will probably take some time."

"You're really tolerant." Ning Zicheng leaned against the door, grinning smugly. "If I were a germaphobe, I would never live here."

"So domineering." Chu Sinian replied dismissively, without any emotion.

"Holy crap, is this what you call domineering? This is perfectly reasonable, okay? It's the other way around. It's more like forcing four complete strangers with completely different personalities into one room! This is no different from forcing yourself to get married and live together!"

Chu Sinian clapped his hands. "That makes perfect sense, little philosopher. You should become the principal."

"Get lost."

Chu Sinian laughed heartily and sent people to clean and disinfect the dormitory. After the cleaning was completed, he explicitly ordered Ning Zicheng to pay attention to hygiene, or else his things would be thrown out.

Ning Zicheng was already used to his control and said without getting angry, "You can control me, but can you control the whole dormitory?"

As it turned out, Chu Sinian was indeed capable.

Within a few days, everyone in the dormitory had succumbed to his tyranny.

A biology student named Zhou Zhuo had a very good temper, a mild personality, and was a bit dull, but he was very meticulous.

Another student from the computer science department was named Liang Tong. He was outgoing and loved playing games. He and Ning Zicheng hit it off immediately and became close friends. However, Liang Tong thought in a linear fashion and couldn't think outside the box. His straightforward personality left Ning Zicheng scratching her head in frustration.

Chu Sinian's habitual leadership style of communication made him the most authoritative person in the dormitory, so he handled things like cleaning with ease.

That day, the group of friends all happened to get off get out of class and arrived at their dorms at the same time, and immediately decided to play games together.

Chu Sinian knew nothing about games and wanted to try playing a game with them, but his phone kept ringing with messages.

On the beautiful starry screen, Yu Shi's hysterical cries filled the air, her resentment almost leaping off the screen.

Chu Sinian put on his headphones and dialed his number.

Can you hear me?

“Brother Sinian, he…he’s getting engaged.”

"So? Are you going to stop him?" Chu Sinian's tone was calm, but unexpectedly carried a hint of coldness.

The crying on the other end stopped immediately, and then she couldn't help but sob softly, "I couldn't stop him."

“We’ve been together for two years, and he still tells me he likes girls. He says he was just playing around with me and now he’s had enough and wants to get back on track. He’s been lying to me for two years…” Yu Shi’s voice sounded somewhat embarrassed.

"Why is he treating me like this? What did I do wrong to be so easily fooled by him? Does he think of me as a dog, someone he can order around at will...? I know there's an age gap between us, I'm too young, I'm immature and naive, is that why he doesn't like me anymore...?"

“Brother… but I’m this age, why didn’t you think about my age when you talked to me… why!” The other person’s voice was replaced by sobs, and the words were broken and incoherent, making it almost impossible to tell what they were saying.

"Where are you?"

The sound in the earphones was intermittent, and Chu Sinian could barely make out the place name before hanging up the phone.

He sat in the chair for a long time without moving. After a while, he turned around to look at his roommates who were engrossed in playing, took out a row of pills from the cabinet, opened the door and went out.

As the click sounded, Ning Zicheng seemed to sense something. He took off half of his earphone and glanced at the door, only to see it closed.
