eavesdropping device
Chu Sinian drove out of the auction venue and dialed a phone, "How's the alliance going?"
"Sir, six companies have already agreed to boycott, three have not yet agreed, and we haven't had time to deal with the remaining companies."
βI acquired a few competing items at the auction; send them to your partners tomorrow.β
"Yes, sir."
Chu Sinian drove home, feeling tired from the brainstorming of the past few days and the sudden emotional outburst. He took off his coat and went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.
He didn't come out for a long time, his hair, which was still damp, was dripping wet.
Chu Sinian covered himself with a towel and went to the bedroom to bring the laptop to the living room.
He took three days off and was about to return to Dong'an, but things here weren't over yet. He had to deal with Ning Zicheng's matter before leaving. Maybe he could stay another day?
Chu Sinian pondered and thought as he typed a message to his advisor.
The chat history displayed on the screen mostly consisted of his requests for leave, and Chu Sinian's ears suddenly felt a little hot.
He is not used to using privileges, nor is he used to asking others for favors.
After typing up the leave request, Chu Sinian closed his eyes and sent it.
Never mind, it's all the same no matter what. He won't reply even if I disagree, so skipping a day shouldn't be a problem.
Chu Sinian then pulled up his emails and sent a message to Professor Isabella, informing her that he would be unable to participate in research activities for the next few days.
He then called Ning Zicheng to report on the current situation and when the trip could end.
After finishing these tasks, Chu Sinian pinched the bridge of his nose and then went to blow-dry his hair.
He didn't sleep well yesterday, and the lack of sleep caused him to have a slight migraine. Fortunately, he doesn't have anything to do right now, so he can catch up on his sleep.
He predicted that Xiao Yu would discover he was being targeted before tomorrow and would soon cause him trouble.
Thinking this, Chu Sinian, whose hair was still wet, was overcome with drowsiness. He walked to the bedroom in a daze and fell asleep on the bed without even closing the door.
As night approached, the assistant finally finished his work and prepared to return home to report to his boss.
He drove the BMW that his company had approved for him, humming along to the car's music as he leisurely drove towards the parking lot.
When the assistant arrived at the house, he saw that the lights were off.
Before he could get a good look, he saw a person sitting at the entrance of the house. Without thinking, the assistant quickly parked the car and ran over.
He opened the gate with his other hand and saw that the person on the steps looked somewhat familiar.
He sat there in a large seat, holding a bag filled with vegetables.
The man had broad shoulders and long legs. His profile was illuminated by the flickering butterfly lamplight. Beneath his exceptionally sharp brow bone were a pair of unforgettable eyes. Beside his thin lips was a strong and clean jawline, exuding a highly aggressive aura.
The assistant immediately recognized who it was and tried to sneak over, but Chen Chi looked over instantly and stared at him intently.
The assistant, flustered, nearly twisted her ankle. "Are you here to see the master?"
Chen Chi gave a soft "hmm".
The assistant slowly walked over, saying, "The boss should be sleeping at this time."
He knocked on the door, but no one answered. "The boss has been working really hard lately, dealing with all this and keeping up with research deadlines. He should be fast asleep by now." As he spoke, he naturally placed his hand on the fingerprint lock.
The door clicked open.
The assistant shushed him and tiptoed into the room.
The room was very dark; apart from a little light coming in through the window, there was nothing else that emitted light.
The assistant glanced instinctively at the master bedroom and saw the bed hidden in the darkness.
He was about to walk over when he discovered that the man was one step ahead of him.
The man's steps were fast, but very light, so light that if he hadn't seen him, he wouldn't have known there was another person in the room.
The assistant was deeply impressed by this man she had never met before.
It wasn't just because of his superior yet fierce appearance, but also because he saw the man who looked much more haggard after just one night, sitting across from him.
The assistant didn't know if he was the culprit.
He looked over and saw the man silently watching his master sleeping soundly in the master bedroom. His taut back slumped slightly, as if he had finally settled down, or like a wild beast relaxing.
The man closed the door very carefully, and when he turned back, his gaze seemed to linger, a lingering affection that seemed to be deeper, an inscrutable desire.
The assistant immediately turned his eyes away, feeling a chill run down his spine.
Chen Chi walked over and said to him, "I messed with your computer."
The assistant was startled. "What did you say?"
"I hacked into the computer and looked at the flower stamen file."
The assistant widened his eyes and pointed to the master bedroom, "Does the master know?"
βHe knows.β
Chen Chi sat down and said, "You can have whatever compensation you want, or even call the police."
More than being angry, the assistant was shocked. He kept his work and personal life very separate, and this computer only contained work information.
The assistant thought for a moment and said, "No need to call the police. Just get me a new, top-of-the-line computer."
Chen Chi agreed, then glanced at the closed door to the master bedroom, and then, as if remembering something, turned back and said, "Sorry."
The assistant wasn't particularly angry; his initial shock and curiosity had turned into fear.
This man's eyes, aura, and even his actions were exceptionally decisive, as if there was nothing he couldn't solve.
He feared that the emotion in those eyes in the darkness was genuine.
"Chu Sinian, how have you been these past few years?"
The assistant exclaimed "Ah," then, realizing what she meant, carefully said, "I don't know much about your private life, sir. I'm an assistant in Beijing, handling some work-related information for the communications department and managing the company. We usually only communicate online."
Chen Chi nodded, then asked, "Is there something wrong with his shoulder?"
The assistant was slightly surprised, but quickly suppressed it, saying, "Sir's shoulders sometimes ache because he's overworked."
Chen Chi frowned slightly. "He hasn't applied the medicine today, has he?"
"not yet."
Chen Chi withdrew his gaze from the master bedroom, stood up, and went to the kitchen to cook.
As he washed the vegetables, he asked, "Is his stomach alright?"
The assistant stepped forward to help, saying, "It's not good. He just had surgery recently because of alcoholism."
"He's an alcoholic?" The dish Chen Chi was holding was accidentally broken in half, making a crisp sound.
"Yes, it seems to be a problem he developed a couple of years ago." The assistant was quite surprised when he first learned this, as he thought the gentleman was almost without flaws.
In my second year of high school?
Chen Chi placed the vegetables on the cutting board and began to chop them one by one with a knife.
Nothing major happened in Chu Sinian's second year of high school; in fact, it was relatively smooth sailing. Why then did he develop a drinking problem?
Chen Chi asked himself this question until he felt a pain in his fingertip. He looked down and saw blood flowing from his index finger.
He casually rinsed away the blood, and after his assistant exclaimed in surprise, he grabbed a piece of paper, wrapped it up haphazardly, and continued chopping vegetables.
-
In the master bedroom, Chu Sinian was awakened from a deep sleep by a phone call.
He half-opened his eyelids to answer, his voice slightly hoarse, "Hello?"
"Young Master Chu, you haven't picked up the things I ordered for you yet. Why don't you come over tonight? We can get together and have a meal."
It was Xiao Yu's voice.
Chu Sinian frowned subconsciously, his displeasure at being woken up amplified by the sound of his voice.
A few seconds later, he realized what was happening and sat up. "How's the electronic contract I sent you a few days ago?"
"Shall we talk business now? Si Nian, you've granted me some trading rights, but the prices are way too high. You're taking a 40% cut, isn't that...?"
"I've thought about it and it's true that the price has been raised. Bring your computer over and I'll change it directly."
"Sure, I'll be waiting for you."
Chu Sinian rubbed his aching temples and hung up the phone.
He moved around a few times, then stood up and walked out of the bedroom.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw his assistant rummaging through drawers and cabinets, and Chen Chi calmly cooking in the kitchen, both staring at him.
Seeing this, Chu Si took a half step back and looked at his assistant, "What are you looking for?"
The assistant reacted and said, "That gentleman accidentally cut his hand while chopping vegetables. I'm looking for a Band-Aid."
Chu Sinian pulled his casually draped coat tighter and walked to the first-aid kit next to the liquor cabinet. "No need to look for it, you go about your business."
He rummaged around for a while, picked up a band-aid, and went to the kitchen. "Here you go."
Chen Chi's gaze fell on the sleepy, red-rimmed eyes. "Why didn't you sleep a little longer?"
Seeing that he wouldn't take it, Chu Sinian simply tore off a band-aid and stuck it on his wrist, saying, "You're not a hired chef, go back to your home."
He went to his assistant and said, "I'm going out for a bit. I'll send you my location, and you can have someone keep watch downstairs. If I don't send you a message every five minutes, come right up."
The assistant responded.
Chu Sinian took the car keys and walked towards the door.
Chen Chi put down his knife and followed, "Where are you going?"
Chu Sinian opened the door. "Go see Xiao Yu. My auction item is with him."
Chen Chi said, "I'll go the same way as you."
Chu Sinian turned around, his gaze sweeping over his cold, stern face, and said, "No need."
Chen Chi raised his hand and slowly closed the wooden door. "Do you remember when I told you that as long as I got Xiao Yu's computer, I could hack into it and find the original documents from back then?"
The two were quite close, less than a meter apart. Chen Chi's broad shoulders completely shielded Chu Sinian, making it almost impossible to see that there was a man in front of him.
Chu Sinian tried to back away to create more distance, but his back pressed firmly against the door.
He looked up at him, the deep blue of the ocean slowly spreading in his eyes, the tiny bacteria emitting a pale blue light, glaring at him as if they were angry.
"Stay away from me."
Chen Chi remained silent and took a step back. "Aren't you afraid he'll retaliate if you meet him alone?"
Chu Sinian lowered his eyes. "I have already made two preparations."
Chen Chi raised his hand and tapped his wrist. "Come here."
The sensation was a bit strange, and Chu Sinian hesitated for a moment before following.
Chen Chi was fiddling with the coat he had worn that night, and after a short while he pulled out an earring that shimmered with blue light from the inner room.
"Bug device, I'll come find you if there's any danger."
Eavesdropping device?
Chu Sinian's expression changed slightly, and he wondered if there was something wrong with his ears. "You're listening to me? You're really crazy."
The feeling of being secretly watched sent shivers down his spine.
Chen Chi's gaze fell on his lightly brushed eyelashes, which looked very soft.
"No bugging was used; we just listened to your conversation with your assistant on your phone this morning."
Damn it, how dare you say that?
Chu Sinian thought he was patient enough, "Get out of here."
Chen Chi picked up the earring, leaned closer to him, and smelled the suddenly clear fragrance, which calmed his slightly restless emotions.
He gazed at the strands of soft hair, and before the other person could move away, he put the earring into his pocket. "Take this to dinner. I'll be leaving."
Chu Sinian kicked him, causing Chen Chi to stagger and feel pain in his leg, but he didn't pay attention and kept his eyes on Chu Sinian.
As he walked, he pressed the earring into his ear piercing and coldly declared, "If I find you still in my room when I return, I will call the police as you wish."
Chu Sinian slammed the door shut after saying that.
The assistant, clutching his bag, glanced around the house, feeling an urge to disappear underground.
He glanced furtively at the tall man standing by the table. There was an aura of loneliness about him, hidden beneath a cold and hard demeanor. He had noticed it when they first met, and now it was growing stronger.
Like the maple leaves falling one after another in the yard, they seem calm, but they will shatter at the slightest touch.
It was exactly the same as the vague and pervasive loneliness emanating from Chu Sinian.
