In the dilapidated factory, Xiao Lin threw down the blood-stained whip and kicked the unconscious Chu Sinian at his feet.

"Check if there's still any gas left."

A young man immediately squatted down and probed his nose, saying, "And the boss too."

Xiao Lin snorted coldly. Someone next to him handed him a paper towel to wipe his hands. He readily accepted it and threw the clean paper towel at Chu Sinian.

"I don't know whether to say you're lucky or unlucky. You meddle in things that don't make sense, yet you sent your own father to prison and ended up like this. You're incredibly stupid."

Xiao Lin glanced at the person next to him, "Pour cold water on him to wake him up!"

Immediately, someone brought over a bucket of water mixed with ice crystals and poured it all in front of them.

Awakening amidst extreme cold and pain, Chu Sinian trembled slightly and struggled to open one eye.

His vision blurred, his ears rang and his eyes were fogged up; everything in front of him turned into afterimages.

Xiao Lin gave the final order, "Kill them."

A young man approached him with a sharp blade, the cold light of the blade reflecting off Chu Sinian's eyelashes.

He seemed to sense something, and slightly curled his dry lips. Snowflakes fell on the corners of his eyes, slid down to the tip of his nose, and became fragmented.

Scenes from my earliest memories flashed through my mind: from our first meeting in the snow-covered manor, to the bizarrely decorated bookcases and secret rooms, to the flower-lined corridor filled with fireworks, and finally to the old yet warm wooden house.

The last scene that came to mind was Chen Chi's restrained yet hysterical confession that night.

The desolate and repressed expression on his face, and the sad and sore eyes, flowed quietly through his heart like water.

He figured at least someone would be sad because of him, so his trip wouldn't have been in vain.

However, I haven't seen Chen Chi one last time.

He felt a cold steel object pressed against his neck, and Chu Sinian smiled with relief.

"Get out of here!" The loud sound of the iron bucket hitting the ground followed the shout.

Zhao Jiechao shoved the man aside, picked up the knife that had fallen to the ground, stood in front of Chu Sinian, and shouted at them, "I've called the police! If you don't leave, then..."

boom!

The loud crashing of the iron gate was like thunder, instantly sending a chill down Xiao Lin's spine.

Before they could react, a tall man pounced like a wolf, followed by a large group of people, including police officers, bodyguards, and doctors. Even if they walked as fast as they could, they couldn't keep up with the speed of the man at the front.

The man acted like a madman, and before he could react, he was in front of Chu Sinian.

Chu Sinian's perception of the outside world was very small. He slightly lifted his eyelashes by a few millimeters and saw a blurry yet familiar outline. He couldn't see anything clearly, but he felt a drop of water fall on the back of his hand.

It appears to be hot.

He wanted to speak up and say that he was alright.

Then I saw a trembling five-fingered hand appear before my eyes, as if it wanted to place it in my nose.

I'm not dead, I'm not dead!

Chu Sinian thought to himself.

But the water on the back of his hand kept increasing and getting hotter, as if it would burn him to ashes. Then he felt himself being picked up.

Tears fell onto his neck, and a muffled buzzing sound reached his ears. He tried to hear clearly, and finally made a few trembling words, "...Please...you...live..."

His heart stopped.

Zhao Jiechao stared in astonishment at the man kneeling on the ground, his head buried in Chu Sinian's shoulder, knife in his hand.

The doctor beside him was examining Chu Sinian's body.

He saw Chen Chi's trembling shoulders and bloodshot eyes.

Seeing those blood-stained tears slide down, one drop after another, it seemed to encapsulate all the fear and despair in the world.

The scene was so tragic that even he, a mere bystander, felt unconsciously suffocated.

In the chaotic factory, the overwhelming grief that erupted drew the attention of even the police. As they helped the criminals into their patrol car, they turned their gaze toward the alpha male of the business world.

The powerful and cold-blooded man lay prostrate on the ground in agony, pleading humbly.

They suddenly reached a consensus.

That means if the young man on the ground really has something to do, the man will go with him without hesitation.

The snow in Dong'an fell all night without stopping.

The city's vegetation and buildings were covered by a thick layer of snow, and the clearing speed could not keep up with the continuous falling snow.

In the private hospital, Yi Fan, who was unable to go home for the New Year due to a major incident, brought in a lunchbox and carefully placed it on the table. "Brother Chi, have some food."

Chen Chi stared intently at Chu Sinian, who lay on the hospital bed, his face pale and breathing weakly through a nasal cannula.

His gaze swept over Chu Sinian's slightly dry lips, and he skillfully took out a damp cotton swab and carefully and gently dabbed it on Chu Sinian's lips.

Once the lips are no longer dry, withdraw your hand.

Yi Fan felt very uncomfortable. "Brother Chi, the matter has been resolved. The Xiao family business is completely gone. That father and son will have to spend the rest of their lives in jail. Those related relatives have also been punished according to your wishes."

Upon hearing these words, Chen Chi responded, his voice hoarse, "Where is Chu Zhuang?"

Yi Fan looked at the patient. "He is, after all, Mr. Chu's father, and he's already in jail. You still want to..." He didn't dare to finish his sentence.

Chen Chi's gaze swept over the scabbed scar on Chu Sinian's face with a deep look, and he gritted his teeth, "We'll make plans after he wakes up."

Yi Fan nodded, not daring to stay in the ward any longer, and left.

Chen Chi looked down at Chu Sinian's pale and powerless hand, then raised his arm and stretched out his hand.

He first gently touched the bloodless fingertips, then slowly probed along each bone until he completely enveloped the other person's hand.

Chu Sinian's body temperature was cold, while his body temperature was warm.

The interplay of sensations was wonderful. Chen Chi slowly lowered his head, pressed his lips to Chen Chi's palm, and murmured, "I missed you so much."

Chu Sinian's eyelids twitched slightly, and his consciousness slowly returned.

He felt very weak, without any strength, and his body was constantly emitting a slight, persistent pain. His entire spirit seemed to have been drained.

Chu Sinian slowly opened his eyes and found that the sunlight was falling on his side. His body was covered tightly by the quilt, and he could not feel the temperature of the sun.

But he guessed it must be warm.

In the blink of an eye, Chu Sinian saw Chen Chi lying in his palm.

He seemed to be asleep, his eyes tightly closed in unease, a deep anxiety between his brows.

Chu Sinian opened his mouth slightly and spoke in a voice as soft as air, "Chen Chi."

The person whose name was called moved slightly, then suddenly raised their head, looking at him with extremely deep and intense gaze, burning with fiery passion.

Chu Sinian leaned back slightly, trying to avoid the body that seemed to be held taut by a thread. "You...didn't you rest?"

The moment he opened his mouth, Chen Chi had already stood up and pressed the call button next to the hospital bed.

Chen Chi lowered his eyes and brushed the hair from his forehead. "Does your body hurt?"

Chu Sinian said, "A little bit."

Chen Chi sat down and straightened his blanket. "It's New Year's Eve today. Is there anything you want as a gift?"

Chu Sinian pursed his lips, feeling somewhat lost.

He thought that, given Chen Chi's personality, he would either fly into a rage or ramble incoherently after Chen Chi woke up.

Chen Chi said, "Don't you want to talk?"

Chu Sinian finally spoke, "What I wanted most has already been achieved, I have no more wishes."

Chen Chi clenched his fist, then released it. "Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"

Chu Sinian raised his eyebrows slightly. "Not hungry."

The doctor came in, followed by a nurse who checked on Chu Sinian's condition. "The patient's condition is currently stable; he should rest."

Chen Chi replied, "Is there any way to relieve the pain?"

The doctor paused, holding the pen, and put it into his breast pocket. "There's nothing I can do. It's the recovery period now. The wound will scab over and be itchy and painful later. I'll prescribe some medicine then. It's best to build up tolerance now."

Veins bulged on Chen Chi's forehead as he slowly nodded, "Okay."

The doctor left with the nurse.

There were only two people in the bright and clean ward. Chu Sinian remained silent, and Chen Chi just looked at him without saying a word.

Chu Sinian curled his fingertips and turned his head to look at the bare trees covered in snow outside the window. "How is Chu Zhuang...?"

Chen Chi closed his eyes briefly, as if enduring something. "He's in jail."

Chu Sinian smiled and said, "That's good. How is he doing?"

How do you want him to live?

Chu Sinian suddenly turned around and saw Chen Chi staring at him, saying, "Do you want to get revenge on him?"

Chu Sinian lowered his eyes. "He has received the punishment he deserves. We should not judge him for the sake of the law."

"Always so soft-hearted." Chen Chi's face was deep, and the veins on his forehead that hadn't faded made him look even more sinister.

"Is this what you call being soft-hearted?" Chu Sinian joked, his voice weak and listless. "If I were soft-hearted, I should have let him go."

He chuckled to himself, "I didn't expect I'd be so lucky, managing to snag a second life. No, I should thank you..."

Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly felt the atmosphere change abruptly.

An extremely strong aura of destruction suddenly burst forth in the ward, as if pressing down on Chu Sinian's neck, preventing him from turning his head, and even the back of his neck was unconsciously covered in sweat.

Before he could make a fuss, a large hand suddenly grabbed his chin and turned his head away.

A cold and oppressive face appeared before him. Chen Chi's eyes were bloodshot, and all his muscles were tense, as if he would devour him at any moment.

"Chu, Si, Nian." He enunciated each word clearly, then suddenly sneered, "Do you really think you have nine lives?"

He practically spat out the words through gritted teeth, “From today onwards, I will watch over you every step of the way. If you don’t learn to cherish your body, I will help you cherish it.”

Chu Sinian was a little stunned. He gently turned his head and broke free from the hand that was gripping his chin, saying with a lack of confidence, "Just kidding."

Chen Chi pressed his hand on Chu Sinian's neck, "This almost got cut open, Chu Sinian, I don't want to argue with you."

His eyes were red and hot, even bleeding, sending a chill down one's spine for no reason. "Have you been wanting to die for a long time?"

Chu Sinian suddenly looked down, stunned to see the scalding tears dripping onto the back of his hand, and felt a sudden surge of anger. "No, I..."

"I...I didn't intend to die, but with Chu Zhuang down, I was in unavoidable danger...I couldn't let him go..."

"So it doesn't matter if we perish together?" Chen Chi spoke quickly, his expression fierce, like a wild beast driven to the brink of despair, hysterically questioning.

Chu Sinian frowned, a man accustomed to tears, yet now somewhat at a loss. "Don't cry, I..."

He looked at Chen Chi, then suddenly turned his head away in despair, and said honestly, "Yes, it doesn't matter if we all perish."

Time seemed to stand still, and for a long while, the room was filled with a chilling silence.

Chen Chi felt completely relaxed, as if all his strength had been exhausted, and the gloom on his face turned into a look of weary despair.

"Chu Sinian, Chu Zhuang has been imprisoned."

I don't ask you to like me, I just ask that you be safe.

"If you have even a little bit of pity or guilt towards me, then grant my wish."

After a long silence, he said.

Happy New Year.

Chen Chi stood up, the tearing pain in his heart suffocating him.

Childhood abuse, the humiliation from others, the death of his mother, and the constant barrage of malicious words never broke him.

But at this moment, he felt as if the last spark of light had been drawn away from him.

He thought, he hated Chu Sinian.

I have never hated anyone so much.
