With so many monstrous creatures, she wanted to see just how many people were gloating and wanted to... devour the Ji family...
Qiu Yun sighed, her eyes dimming with emotion, and said, "If the chairman were to return, you wouldn't need to work so hard, General Manager."
"Is that so?" Ji Yao gave a cool, curt smile.
In fact, there's no difference anymore. Coming back would naturally be easier, but for her now, she'd rather be a little tired and busy, at least she wouldn't have any free time to think about that...heartless man.
Instead of being tormented by excruciating pain from time to time as before.
Qiu Yun frowned in confusion. She wondered if it was just her imagination, but she always felt that their general manager carried a faint sense of despair, especially in the occasional emotions she expressed, which had a kind of world-weariness and despair that were out of place for her age.
Ji Yao pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed wearily, "You can go out first. I want to be alone for a while."
"OK."
Qiu Yun looked at Ji Yao, seemingly wanting to say something but then hesitated, and finally left without saying anything.
...
A private room on the second floor of a restaurant with a great atmosphere.
Sitting there was a couple who looked very well-matched; they were pleasing to the eye just from the outside.
After being upset by Mo Qing, Jiang Wenjing's heart skips a beat whenever she sees Li Chuan, and she feels like something is wrong with her.
She used to be able to act coquettishly with Brother Chuan very naturally, but after hearing what Si said, she felt like she couldn't breathe whenever she was in the same space as Brother Chuan, as if she was about to suffocate.
"What's wrong?" Li Chuan asked, his eyes flickering slightly as he noticed Jiang Wenjing staring at the cake without moving for most of the time. He remained calm and composed.
"No!" Jiang Wenjing lied reflexively.
"Are you feeling unwell? You don't look very well." Li Chuan's eyes were deep and unfathomable. From his perspective, Jiang Wenjing's complexion wasn't just bad, it was too beautiful. Especially since her eyes were darting around, avoiding his gaze, and the pink on her face was growing more and more intense, as if she had a fever.
"No greeting," she said, her voice barely audible, like the buzzing of a mosquito.
She felt increasingly unsure how to face Brother Chuan. The more she wanted to interact with Li Chuan naturally as before, the less she knew what to do.
“Jing, if you’re not feeling well, you can talk to me. You know I’m a doctor,” Li Chuan’s eyes darkened, his voice carrying an unspoken complexity. “Or is it because you don’t want to see me? I’ve heard from your parents that they’ve been urging you to move out and live with me.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wenjing froze on the spot, as if her acupoints had been sealed.
Li Chuan's eyes dimmed for a moment, but he quickly concealed it. "If you feel uncomfortable in front of me because of this, I can leave first, or I can go to your house myself and talk to your aunt and uncle."
He can take his time, as long as she stops avoiding him and returns to the way she was before—Jiang Wenjing—who can talk to him without any reservations or pressure, about anything and everything.
Jiang Wenjing was practically bursting with embarrassment. She shifted her position slightly and stammered, "No..."
Li Chuan's eyes flashed, and he stared at her intently without changing his expression, somewhat awkwardly, "You have someone you like? So you don't want to see me for dinner anymore, is that it?"
He still clearly remembered that just half a month ago, the girl had been telling him that she wanted to find someone she liked to marry.
Could it be... that she's losing her appetite because she has someone she likes? Is she so preoccupied with that man that she can't eat?
The moment this thought popped into Li Chuan's mind, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.
Jiang Wenjing was both amused and exasperated. "It really isn't..." What on earth is going on?
Why bring this up? She doesn't seem to have said she's fallen for anyone today, does she?
Li Chuan continued, "Jing, do you feel particularly uncomfortable being with me? You know, before, you would talk nonstop whenever you saw me, but today you didn't say more than three words, and you didn't even touch your favorite pastry."
Jiang Wenjing bit her lip, feeling a complex mix of emotions she couldn't quite put into words.
So he was really that observant...
Seeing that she still didn't speak, Li Chuan's eyes darkened unconsciously, and he tentatively continued to ask her, "I don't know if you encountered something unhappy at school, or if you feel pressured to eat with me now and are not as comfortable as before, so you want to avoid me?"
Jiang Wenjing looked up at Li Chuan with a deep, unresolved worry in her eyes. Her expression was firm and serious. "Brother Chuan, I really haven't been avoiding you. You're just overthinking it."
She didn't deliberately try to avoid him, although she felt increasingly uncomfortable around him and had thought about avoiding him, but she never intended to deliberately avoid him!
How could she possibly avoid it? The two houses weren't far apart to begin with, and besides, he would go to her house from time to time. Even if she wanted to, she couldn't escape him...
"Really? Then why have you been so distracted lately?" Li Chuan stared at her with deep eyes, leaving her nowhere to hide. He didn't believe she hadn't been able to avoid him.
"Brother Chuan, can you please stop forcing me? I feel like my mind is a complete mess right now. Can we please stop?" Jiang Wenjing was finally pushed to the brink by his words and yelled at him for the first time.
