When Mo Qing woke up, she found herself lying in the grass by the river.
The river flowed gurglingly, and a little clear water flowed into the grass.
She was facing the sunlight with her eyes open, and was momentarily startled, causing her to close them briefly. She reflexively raised her right hand to shield her eyes from the strong light, and sat up somewhat dazedly. Her head was spinning, and she couldn't clearly see Rao sitting not far from her.
Even though she could only vaguely see a shadow of this person sitting there, she felt incredibly at ease.
It was a sense of peace and tranquility that followed despair.
a long time.
"Hanhan," she called softly.
This time, however, he didn't look at her immediately, nor did he utter a "hmm?" in his deep, pleasant voice.
Mo Qing slowly sat up and looked at him, only to find that Ji Muhan's face was a little pale!
Looking around, it was clearly not a place they had been before. The tree species had changed, and it was hot and humid with low visibility. She guessed that the altitude had dropped by at least five or six hundred meters from where they had slept the night before.
She called out to Shen Shaolin a few times, trying to confirm if they were nearby.
"No need to call anymore, it's just the two of us here now." Ji Muhan, leaning against the tree branch, didn't look at her, but those words were definitely his.
"Then you..." She didn't finish her sentence, but Mo Qing could roughly guess that he must have jumped into the river after her.
A feeling suddenly welled up inside me, as if it were fermenting and swelling...
"Cough cough cough." Ji Muhan suddenly turned her head away, deliberately lowering her voice.
"Did it aggravate your wound?" Mo Qing's heart clenched as she heard this, and she dragged her somewhat weak body to his side.
"It's nothing." Ji Muhan leaned against the tree branch and closed her eyes to rest.
Mo Qing looked at Ji Muhan, whose eyes were closed. He looked weak and powerless, as if he didn't want to say anything more.
She had something to say; in her dream, she was so desperate and regretful, but now, she was so uncertain.
I didn't want him to put in any effort.
Suddenly, Ji Muhan reached out and grabbed her wrist, which was resting on the tree trunk, his dark eyes fixed on her. "Where do you feel unwell?"
Mo Qing looked at the obviously exhausted Ji Muhan, shook her head, and pointed to his chest where his clothes clung tightly to his body, "Is your wound alright? Will it get infected?"
The river water was so cold; all she wanted to know was how bad his wound was. If it had become infected, in this desolate place…
Ji Mu closed his eyes briefly, a hint of obvious fatigue in his expression. "I'm fine."
We just need to get the bullet out as soon as possible.
After resting for a while, Ji Muhan led her to find a place to stay nearby.
Viper caves are also caves carved out by water flow, usually found on carbonaceous rocks, because vipers like to live there and therefore regard these caves as their homes.
The first thing to do when entering the cave is to find fire. Shells are known as forest fires because they can exude a lot of resin, so they will burn for a long time if lit. Stuffing shells into an empty bamboo tube makes a convenient and simple torch.
After softening the vine stem on the tree, Ji Muhan tied it to the thick trunk at the entrance of the cave and said to her, "I'll go down and take a look first. You wait for me here."
Holding a torch and pulling a rope with his left hand, he quickly descended into the cave. The cave was large and spacious, but not very deep. Once he reached the bottom, Mo Qing could almost see the entire outline of the cave in the torchlight. It was a good hiding place, if there were no vipers.
After checking inside and finding no danger, Ji Muhan waved her torch to signal Mo Qing to come down.
She tried to slide down the rock face by pulling on the vines and stepping on the rock, just like Ji Muhan had done. Before she was even halfway down, she felt like she had no strength left in her arms.
Barely managing to land safely before falling, Ji Muhan smiled and gave her a swift egg she had just found in the cave, "A reward."
It's like an apple given as a reward to a friend in kindergarten who eats well—childish and cute.
"Let me see your wound," Mo Qing said to Ji Muhan, who was sitting to the side, after finishing the swiftlet's egg.
In the dim cave, his face was not visible, but his lips still looked pale. He looked at her, a sharp smile on his face, and whispered, "I hope you're not afraid."
"Do you think I'm such a fragile person?" Mo Qing tilted her head slightly, blinked casually, and tried to lighten the mood.
“It doesn’t seem like it at all.” Ji Muhan suddenly thought of how calmly and decisively she fought him before, and a smile curved her lips.
He always thought that a girl like her must be pampered and cherished at home.
Unexpectedly, these two gave him such an unexpected "surprise".
When dealing with the enemy, the action is swift and efficient.
He acts boldly and recklessly, yet he is also intelligent and quick-witted. He knows how to think calmly when faced with danger, and he is exceptionally hardworking in certain situations, which truly makes him remarkable...
"Those people died right in front of me that night, and I wasn't scared at all," Mo Qing said, feigning composure to prove she wasn't afraid.
But in reality, whether she was truly afraid or not, only she knows the answer…
Ji Muhan's eyes flickered slightly, but he didn't bother to expose her words. He knew that the girl was just trying to put his mind at ease.
The girl saw the person she had shot the night before, and she looked completely bewildered. She was clearly terrified, but she gritted her teeth and didn't let her fear show.
If he hadn't seen that fleeting look of fear in her eyes, he think he would have thought she wasn't afraid at all.
Without saying a word, Ji Muhan took off her black vest, revealing the wound on her right shoulder blade. After being blistered by water, the wound had turned white, indicating that the bullet had not penetrated very deeply.
But it still startled Mo Qing, who bit her lower lip tightly, afraid that she would let out a sound if she couldn't hold back.
She knew she had no way out now. She had to stay calm. Even though she had never faced this before, she absolutely could not drag Hanhan down with her...
He heated the dagger over the torch for a long time before handing it to Mo Qing, his eyes calm as he instructed her, "Gouge out the bullet. It's very simple."
Mo Qing didn't have time to admire that figure that could make any woman drool. She obediently took the dagger, took several deep breaths, and kept telling herself with trembling hands that it was just a lab rat, nothing more. It was okay, she could do it, and she shouldn't panic.
The more she tried to calm herself, the more her right hand, gripping the dagger, trembled...
Ji Muhan saw that her brows were furrowed and her hands, gripping the dagger, were trembling uncontrollably.
The girl is still a child after all. After going through all this, she hasn't broken down in tears yet, which shows she has a pretty good mental fortitude...
