"Grandpa, may I... go see him?"
"What are you looking at that brat for? Dinner's almost ready, let's go eat." Xian Zhengsen scolded, he got angry whenever Xian Mingyu was mentioned, and that brat should be taught a lesson.
“Okay.” Bai Xiaoruo helped Xuan Zhengsen to his feet, and they walked together toward the dining room.
The food has already been served.
It was supposed to be just dinner for three people, but the dishes prepared were huge, more than twenty in total. I didn't even know which one to eat first.
Lin Suqing had a servant serve Bai Xiaoruo a bowl of hot fish soup.

This was Bai Xiaoruo's first time staying here, and she couldn't refuse her grandparents' hospitality, so she agreed to stay for one night.
After finishing his meal, Xian Zhengsen went straight upstairs to practice calligraphy, which was his daily habit after meals.
Only Bai Xiaoruo and Lin Suqing remained at the table; they were both full.
There was still a lot of food left on the table. Several dishes had only been touched a couple of times with chopsticks, and it would be a waste to just throw them away, especially since they were still warm.
Realizing that Xian Mingyu hadn't eaten yet, Bai Xiaoruo asked a servant to bring her a small plate and a bowl of white rice, intending to pack some food for Xian Mingyu.
"Oh, and bring a few more small bowls, and reheat the fish soup while you're at it," Bai Xiaoru instructed the maid who had already gone into the kitchen.
"Little Ruo, aren't you full yet?" Lin Suqing asked, looking at her.
"No, Grandma, I wanted to take some food to Mingyu. He must still be hungry."
"You...sigh, I just can't do anything with you. Mingyu has treated you like this, and you're still thinking about him."
"Grandma, no matter how he treated me, he will always be my husband...Grandma, I want to go to the ancestral hall to see him, is that alright?"
“Go quietly, and don’t let your grandpa find out. Your grandpa was furious when he saw the news yesterday. As soon as Mingyu arrived, he picked up his cane to beat him up. She pushed open the ancestral hall door with her body, then quickly closed it again, keeping the cold wind out.

The darker it got, the colder it became.
Fortunately, it's warmer inside the ancestral hall than outside.

Bai Xiaoru rubbed her hands together and kept breathing on them, trying to warm them up as quickly as possible.
Before Bai Xiaoruo even entered the room, Xian Mingyu could hear her footsteps from afar.
He only realized it was Bai Xiaoruo who had come in when he heard her voice.
Along with her came the aroma of food.
Bai Xiaoruo then noticed Xian Mingyu kneeling in front of the memorial tablet in the very center of the ancestral hall.
His eyes were closed, and it was unclear whether he was asleep. Even though he was kneeling, his back remained straight, without the slightest slackening.
Bai Xiaoruo lightened her steps, slowly approaching Xuan Mingyu, squatting down in front of him, and first waving her hand in front of his eyes—
"Hey, are you asleep?"
The next second, he suddenly opened his eyes, which startled Bai Xiaoruo.
I almost fell to the ground.
What are you doing here? Did you come to laugh at me?
"I... I can come whenever I want. I'm part of the Xuan family now, so it's normal for me to come and pay respects to our ancestors."
Bai Xiaoruo made up a random excuse to deal with him.
She wouldn't tell him directly that she came to see him specifically.
"Worshiping ancestors? Coming to worship at this time of year, aren't you afraid of encountering ghosts?"
