Chapter 19 Awakening

early morning.

Sunlight streamed softly into the ward through the window.

The person who had been sleeping soundly on the hospital bed stirred slightly and slowly opened their eyes.

The moment I opened my eyes, all I saw was a vast expanse of white.

It was mixed with a pungent and unpleasant-smelling disinfectant.

Bai Xiaoruo was about to sit up when her head started to throb with pain.

He felt as if he had been severely beaten; his whole body was limp and he had no strength at all.

Bai Xiaoruo fumbled for her glasses on the bedside table, put them on, and the world became clear.

Is this a hospital?

Was I saved last night?

How did I end up in the hospital? I'm penniless right now, how can I afford to stay in the hospital?

Thinking of the exorbitant medical bills, Bai Xiaoruo dared not stay any longer and threw off the covers, wanting to leave as soon as possible.

Just then, the door to the ward opened from the outside.

Anne came in carrying the breakfast she had bought and clean clothes.

Seeing that Bai Xiaoruo was awake, she could finally relax.

"You're finally awake! I thought you'd sleep until the afternoon. Come on, are you hungry? I just bought you some delicious food from my favorite breakfast place. You're in for a treat today."

Annie put her things on the bedside table and muttered to herself as she started to find a small table and set it up on the bed.

Bai Xiaoruo was somewhat flattered and sat still on the bed, not daring to move.

Is this the person who saved me last night?

Maybe my eyesight is just bad; last night I thought I saw a man, but it turned out to be a young woman.

Annie bought millet porridge, some side dishes, and soy milk. The doctor had instructed her to eat something bland first when she woke up.

"Try it! I queued for ages to buy this. Everything in this shop is delicious."

Annie handed the small spoon to Bai Xiaoruo.

Bai Xiaoruo didn't immediately take the spoon. Instead, she threw off the blanket, suddenly knelt on the bed, and even kowtowed to Annie, which stunned Annie.

I only bought her breakfast; I don't deserve such a generous gift.

"What are you doing! Get up, get up, I can't take this."

"No, you deserve it. If it weren't for your help last night, I wouldn't be here safe and sound. You are my savior. I have no money and no way to repay you, so this is the only way I can thank you."

"Oh, silly girl, sit down quickly. The person who saved you last night wasn't entirely me."

"What do you mean?" Bai Xiaoruo was a little confused.

"Hehe, you eat first, I'll tell you slowly."

"Alright then." Bai Xiaoruo had no choice but to pick up the small spoon, scoop up a spoonful of millet porridge, blow on it to cool it down, and then eat it.

It was sticky and fragrant. Perhaps because I was really hungry, even the plain millet porridge tasted incredibly delicious.

“Last night, after we signed the contract, we came out and I don’t know where you came from, but you suddenly jumped into our president’s arms. Then I don’t know what happened, but I saw you fall asleep in his arms. I originally wanted to take you home, but I couldn’t find any identification on you and I didn’t know where you lived. Seeing that you were sleeping very soundly, I felt something was wrong, so I brought you to the hospital.”

"The doctor said you fell into a coma because you took an overdose of antipsychotic medication. How could you take that kind of drug? You don't look like a mental patient. The doctor said that if an ordinary person takes too much of that kind of drug, it can have a very serious impact on their health."

"Medicine... I didn't take my medicine last night... Could it be... that glass of wine was the problem..." Bai Xiaoruo murmured to herself.

If it really was because of the drug in that drink, it's no wonder I felt so unwell after drinking it.

Bai Xiaoruo really couldn't believe it. Although she had no prior relationship with Xiao Yaran, she had never had any grudges against her. How could Xiao Yaran have drugged her drink?

If I hadn't fought so hard to escape last night, I might have already been defiled by those people, or even tortured to the point of wishing I were dead.

Bai Xiaoruo held Annie's hand tightly. "Please believe me, I'm not mentally ill. I really don't know how I could have taken that kind of drug. I'm a normal person. I'm really not sick."

"Okay, okay, don't get excited, I believe you." Seeing Bai Xiaoruo so agitated, Annie patiently comforted her.

Judging from her appearance, she must have gone through something terrible last night, otherwise, how could a perfectly healthy person become like this?

"Don't be afraid, it's alright, it's all over now. My name is Annie, I'm probably a few years older than you, you can just call me Sister Annie. What's your name? Where do you live? Are you still in school?"

"I... my name is Xiao Ruo. My home... is in a rather remote area. You might not understand, but I'm from L City. I'm currently studying at K University, and I should be going back to school tonight." Bai Xiao Ruo simply and clearly avoided mentioning her relationship with the Bai family. After all, she wasn't well-liked in the Bai family anyway, so there was nothing to talk about.

"Oh, okay. Then I'll call you Xiaoruo from now on. Xiaoruo, let's add each other on WeChat. I feel like we're destined to meet. I don't have many friends here, so I'll invite you out to have some fun and delicious food in the future."

"This..." Bai Xiaoruo was a little embarrassed and didn't know how to tell Annie.

"Oh, you don't use WeChat? QQ will do, you students all know how to use it, right? How about I add your phone number so we can keep in touch easily?"
