Chapter 21 The Consequences of Acts of Heroism

The old lady, carrying her handbag, stood near the mall entrance, hesitant to move around.

She has a poor sense of direction, and even when she goes out shopping, she is always with her partner and rarely goes out alone.

Suddenly, a man wearing a mask, a baseball cap, and all black clothes approached.

Taking advantage of the old lady's inattention, he snatched the handbag from her hand and ran away.

The old lady was initially stunned and didn't realize what was happening.

This was the first time I'd ever encountered a thief on a busy street.

By the time the old lady realized what was happening, the man had already run quite a distance. Remembering that she still had important things in her bag, the old lady disregarded her husband's earlier instructions and chased after him.

"Help! Thief! Thief!" The old lady was so anxious that tears were almost in her eyes. Unfortunately, she was old and she was already panting after running only a few steps, but she still insisted on getting the bag back.

Commercial streets are already crowded, making it difficult for thieves to get through the crowds. While they may be able to steal valuable items by choosing this route, it's not easy to escape if they are discovered.

Bai Xiaoruo walked casually down the street, kicking pebbles at her feet as she went, unaware of the people running towards her.

The thief ran forward desperately, squeezing into any gap he could find. As he turned a corner, he bumped into Bai Xiaoruo, who was looking down and not watching where she was going.

The thief and Bai Xiaoruo both fell to the ground, and the bag he had just snatched also fell to the ground.

Bai Xiaoruo's arm scraped hard against the sharp stones on the ground, leaving several bloody marks. She endured the pain and sat up. She heard someone shouting "Stop thief!" not far away, and then saw the equally disheveled man in black lying next to her and his bag lying to the side.

Without thinking twice, Bai Xiaoruo quickly grabbed the bag from the ground and held it tightly to her chest while the thief was still dizzy from the fall and hadn't had time to grab it, causing the thief to miss his target.

How could a thief be willing to let someone else take away the designer bag he had worked so hard to snatch?

After a few attempts to snatch the bag from Bai Xiaoruo, she was helpless and simply curled up on the ground, tightly protecting the bag in her arms, refusing to let go no matter what.

The thief wasn't going to be trifled with; if soft tactics didn't work, he'd resort to force.

He kicked Bai Xiaoruo several times, yelling in concern that the people behind them would catch up, "Give it to me! Give me the bag right now!"

"I won't give it to you! This bag is definitely not yours, and I would rather die than hand it over to you." Bai Xiaoruo endured the pain and was determined to protect the bag.

A crowd of onlookers had gathered, but the driver and bodyguards had already picked up the old lady and were on their way to chase the thief.

After kicking Bai Xiaoruo several times and seeing that she still wouldn't hand over her bag, the thief gritted his teeth and pulled a small knife from his pocket: "Give me the bag if you don't want to die!" He brandished the knife threateningly in front of Bai Xiaoruo a few times.

Although Bai Xiaoruo was scared, she thought that if she really gave in and gave him the bag, what if there was something important in the bag? The owner would be very anxious if he lost it.

Under no circumstances should the bag be handed over.

Bai Xiaoruo calmly closed her eyes, tightening her grip on the bag. Anyway, she was just a worthless person, and no one in the Bai family would care. If she could help the owner protect this bag, even if she died, it would be an honor.

I silently repeated to myself: Farewell, Shushu, farewell, Brother Ziqian, and Sister Annie, whom I just met today. If I really lose my life, I hope we can be friends again in the next life.

Seeing that Bai Xiaoruo remained stubborn, the thief, driven to desperation, swung his knife and slashed at Bai Xiaoruo's back.

However, the thief only slightly tore the clothes and hadn't even exerted any force before the old lady's bodyguards arrived and subdued him.

The knife was also thrown on the ground.

After an unknown amount of time, Bai Xiaoruo felt no pain and cautiously opened her eyes.

The old lady and her husband have arrived.

"I'm exhausted, this kid can run so fast."

The old lady, Lin Suqing, gasped for breath, glared at the thief who was being restrained by the bodyguards, and said, "Did you find my bag? Notify the police and lock up this kind of social scum right now. How dare he steal my things in broad daylight? He must have a death wish!"

"Yes, Madam!"

Seeing the actual owner approaching, Bai Xiaoruo slowly stood up, clutching the bag. "Grandma, look, is this your bag?"

Because I was holding the bag too tightly, and white handbags are not resistant to getting dirty, it got quite muddy when it fell on the ground, and the handbag looked a bit wrinkled.

“This…” Lin Suqing then noticed Bai Xiaoruo.

She was covered in dirt and dust, her arms were scraped and bleeding from the fall, and there were countless bruises on her body from being kicked by the thief.

All of this she did was to protect her handbag.

How could Lin Suqing not be moved?

Seeing that the old lady hadn't taken the bag yet and was instead staring at her face, Bai Xiaoruo felt a little embarrassed by the stare. She gently wiped the dust off the bag with her hand and said, "I'm so sorry for getting your bag dirty, Grandma. Please check it to see if anything is missing."

Lin Suqing took Bai Xiaoruo's hand, but kept shaking her head. "Good girl, thank you so much for protecting my bag so carefully. You should be a pretty girl, but now you're all dirty as a little mud doll. There's no need to check the bag. I trust your character."
