“Grandpa, the main reason I came with him this time is to tell you that I am pregnant with his baby. How can I leave him under these circumstances? The baby needs a complete family, and I need him too.”
When Grandpa spoke just now, he was clearly lucid and spoke clearly. Bai Xiaoruo wondered if Grandpa's illness had been completely cured.
Grandpa, are you cured?
I was so worried about her that I almost gave myself away.
Feng Zhiyuan shook his head, suddenly stood up, and tossed the gift boxes on the ground around. "Fun, so many toys, so much fun, I love playing with toys."
Seeing her grandfather looking so childlike again, Bai Xiaoruo didn't ask any more questions. It turned out she was mistaken; her grandfather's illness was still fluctuating.
Xian Mingyu brought over some warm water, and Feng Zhiyuan no longer seemed as disgusted with him as before. He took the water glass and drank it in large gulps, as if he was really thirsty.
"Grandpa, drink slowly." Bai Xiaoruo wiped him down with a tissue after he drank water all over himself.
Bai Xiaoruo and Xian Mingyu stayed with Feng Zhiyuan until noon before returning home.
She even had lunch with him during that time, but Feng Zhiyuan was always running around and never cooperated, making even a meal a real headache.
As he was leaving, Feng Zhiyuan held Bai Xiaoruo's hand tightly, his eyes filled with reluctance. "Xiaoruo, my Xiaoruo, you must take good care of yourself. If any bad person dares to bully you, come and tell your grandfather. Your grandfather will help you drive the bad person away and won't let you suffer any injustice."
"Okay, Grandpa, you should go back now, it's windy outside. I'll be fine, no one will bully me." Bai Xiaoru nodded repeatedly.
It wasn't that she couldn't bear to part with Feng Zhiyuan, but her grandfather was unwilling to leave with them and insisted on staying here. Otherwise, Bai Xiaoruo really wanted to live with him.
***
Even after Xuan Mingyu helped Bai Xiaoruo into the car and the car had already started moving, Feng Zhiyuan was still standing at the entrance of the nursing home, waving to them.
Bai Xiaoruo glanced through the car window one last time, and couldn't hold back any longer. She leaned against Xian Mingyu's chest and cried.
She had only just left her grandfather when she started missing him.
This nursing home is really far from the city center, and it's not easy to come here every time, so I can't come often. I can only visit my grandfather when I have a lot of free time.
"Don't cry, I'll come with you again next time." Xian Mingyu took some tissues and wiped her tears, but no matter how he wiped, she couldn't stop crying.
"Waaah..." Bai Xiaoru cried bitterly, tears streaming down her face. She sniffled, her voice choked with sobs, "Sometimes, I really want to have a complete family... But... my family has long been torn apart. Apart from my grandfather, none of the so-called relatives in the Bai family treat me like family... My grandfather is always thinking about me, but I am powerless to give him a better life."
He could clearly feel the person in his arms trembling, so he hugged her tighter, held her cold hands, and gave her strength and a sense of security. "No... you still have me. Wherever I am, that's your home. I will give you the best of everything and will never let you live in fear again... It's all in the past. Don't think too much. One day we will persuade Grandpa to move out of there."
"Really?" she asked, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Okay, don't cry. Grandpa was just saying he was worried you'd be wronged, and now you're crying like this. Anyone who doesn't know better would think I'm bullying you."
He wiped away her tears with a tissue, then lowered his head and kissed her red and swollen eyes. "I love seeing you smile."
As soon as Xian Mingyu finished speaking, Bai Xiaoruo immediately stopped sobbing, buried her face in his chest, her little face as red as a ripe tomato, and shyly hid away, not wanting him to see her.
"You're so cheesy."
Such sweet words were something she had never heard from him before, at least not when they were together; he never said them to her.
But now, all I hear are these sweet nothings from morning till night, and I'm not used to it at first.
"If you think I'm being too cheesy, then I won't say it anymore."
"No, you, you just need to say a few more words."
Bai Xiaoruo took out her phone from her small bag. "I want to record it on my phone."
"Why record it on your phone?" It's like a speech by a national leader; he can't say that into a phone.
Bai Xiaoru pouted, gripping her phone tightly. "I want to listen to it every day—in the morning, at noon, and in the evening!"
How wonderful it would be to fall asleep to his voice!
"Oh~ You like my voice so much, do you like me?"
"Ah, I..."
"Hmm?" He slowly moved closer to her.
"I...I didn't..."
"real?"
His face drew closer and closer, and Bai Xiaoruo awkwardly turned her face away.
She really didn't know how to answer when asked so directly.
Yes, a little bit.
"Just a little bit?"
How many do you want?
"Bai Xiaoruo, is this how you treat people?" Can't you say something more satisfying? What's with "a little bit"?
"I wasn't being perfunctory... It can't be just me liking you... You don't even like me..." she muttered softly, her eyes lowered.
He still managed to make sure that Xian Mingyu heard every single word.
"Who said I don't like you?"
