Chapter 278 The Year That Can't Be Over

After finishing their meal, several of the older members of the family went back to their rooms to rest. They would stay here for another two days.

Bai Xiaoruo finally understood why this house was several times larger than the one she lived in in L City, and why there were so many empty rooms.

It turns out that it was all prepared to entertain guests, and there were dozens of guests at that.

Each family moved in, and there were two extra rooms available.

In a few years, when these children grow up and start their own families, those two extra rooms probably won't be enough for them.

There are three dedicated children's rooms, filled with all kinds of children's toys for different age groups. They are all the latest models and are cleaned and replaced regularly. There are also quite a few electronic products.

Not only can children play together in the room, but each children's room also has bunk beds with ten beds in each room, so children can sleep here when they are tired from playing.

Every year on New Year's Eve, these relatives would come over to celebrate the New Year together, so there was no need to visit each other's homes.

In the living room, the aunts and uncles chattered away about everyday matters. Just after they finished eating, Xian Shaodong called Xian Mingyu to the study, while Bai Xiaoruo was dragged to the children's room by the group of mischievous kids.

Without Xian Mingyu's obstruction, they could finally play with Bai Xiaoruo.

The children all sat obediently around Bai Xiaoruo, the oldest being eight years old and the youngest three. They all adored her.

"Sister, are you staying with us tonight too?"

The chubby little hand tugged at her sleeve, and the big, round eyes blinked as it looked at her.

All his relatives' children are very good-looking, with high noses and big eyes; it's no surprise they inherited their genes.

“Yes. But after the New Year, I and…” Their family relationships were complicated. Xuan Mingyu was both the uncle of some of the children and the cousin of others. Bai Xiaoruo didn’t know how to address him. “After the New Year, I will be going back to L City. Have any of you been to L City?”

"L City?"

The children looked at each other.

Both generations of them have lived here and settled down long ago, rarely returning to China. Perhaps they had been to L City before, but they were too young to remember.

"So, does that mean we can find you, sister, if we go to L City in the future?"

"Sure, you're welcome to come visit me."

One of the little girls, wearing a red dress, reached out and tugged at Bai Xiaoruo's sleeve. "Sister, are you the person Uncle Three likes?"

Bai Xiaoruo paused for a moment, then smiled, patted her head, and gave a neither affirmative nor negative answer: "If he is your third uncle, then shouldn't you call me aunt?"

"But I think calling you 'auntie' is too old-fashioned. I prefer to call you 'sister'."

The little boy next to Bai Xiaoruo also started asking her questions: "Sister, I just heard my mom say that you have a baby in your tummy. What does a baby look like? Is it because you ate it that it's in your tummy?"

“How could that be? Babies are born from their mothers’ tummy, not because they’re eaten.” Bai Xiaoruo unbuttoned her coat to show them her slightly protruding belly. “The baby is still very small, you can touch him.”

"Wow~" The children were all like they had discovered a new continent. They rushed to touch Bai Xiaoruo's belly, but were also very scared. They quickly withdrew their hands after touching it, afraid of hurting the baby inside.

"Sister, my dad's belly is as big as yours, will he have a baby too?"

"When I'm full, my belly is round too. Does that mean I'm pregnant?"

Bai Xiaoruo was amused by their questions. Children's thoughts are simple and their imaginations are rich. Being with them is really relaxing.

“It’s different when you’re full and have a baby. Only mothers can have babies; fathers can’t,” she patiently answered them.

The kids listened, seemingly understanding but not quite, nodding along.

After asking their questions, the kids pulled Bai Xiaoruo around, wanting her to play with them.

"Sister, sister, read us a storybook."

"Sister, play with my dolls first."

"Sister, sister, let's play on the slide."

They all started talking at once, and Bai Xiaoruo didn't know who to listen to first.

"Okay, okay, let's play together."

Her current physical condition isn't suitable for playing jumping games with them, nor can she play on the slide. However, she can still read storybooks and play with dolls.

......

Finally, after reading the entire storybook, the chattering little brats had mostly quieted down.

Bai Xiaoruo was also a little tired, with a dry mouth and throat.

Looking around, I saw several children already asleep on the ground.

She leaned against the wall, stretched, and realized she was getting sleepy.

I've been sitting for so long that I don't want to move anymore, so I'll just lean against the wall and take a nap.

10 PM.

When Xuan Mingyu returned to his room, he didn't see Bai Xiaoruo. He found her in the children's room.

As soon as the door opened, there were children sleeping haphazardly on the floor, while Bai Xiaoruo was sitting against the wall, sleeping with her head tilted to one side, and had been sleeping for quite a while.

Fortunately, the room was heated, so it wasn't cold. Otherwise, she would have definitely caught a cold if she had fallen asleep sitting on the floor like that.

These kids' parents are really carefree; they haven't come out to look for them and take them back to their rooms this late.

Xuan Mingyu had no choice but to carry them one by one to their beds, cover them all with blankets, and then carry Bai Xiaoru back to her room to sleep.
