The dinner ended on a sour note.
Bai Xiaoruo felt a tightness in her chest. She knew she shouldn't have lost her temper like that with Ji Ziqian; it wasn't like her at all.
However, upon hearing Ziqian's attitude, his denial of Xianmingyu, and his disapproval of their relationship, she felt an urge to stand up for Xianmingyu. The person she knew was not like that.
Yes, to be honest, if it weren't for his domineering and possessive nature, let alone getting her pregnant, he wouldn't have touched her once in the more than half a year since they got married.
I will never forget what happened that night.
Thinking about a lingering nightmare makes my heart tremble.
Her desperate cries could not earn her his gentle treatment.
But now, because she likes him, because of all the kindness and love he has shown her, Bai Xiaoruo has long since let go. She no longer resents him, no longer fears him. This child is the starting point of their relationship, and she is willing to give him her whole self.
Bai Xiaoruo was not unaware of Ji Ziqian's feelings for her; he was doing it for her own good. So, before parting at dinner, she didn't say anything, only making an excuse that she was tired and needed to go back to rest.
Ji Ziqian chased after her and apologized to her many times. He didn't want her to be angry or to hate him.
Bai Xiaoruo sat in the taxi she had just hailed, smiled at him, then her face showed helplessness, telling him to pretend that nothing had happened that night, and that she didn't need to forgive him.
Before Ji Ziqian could say anything more to her, Bai Xiaoruo had already told the driver to drive away. He stood alone by the roadside, feeling frustrated.
It's all his fault; he was too impatient and blurted out his true thoughts.
She is now Xian Mingyu's wife and pregnant with his baby. Bai Xiaoruo is no longer the naive and innocent little girl she once was. How could his words possibly resonate with her?
He stood by the roadside, not leaving for a long time, silently grieving: Xiao Ruo, are you really determined to be with him? Are we... really only meant to be friends?
***
Bai Xiaoruo had just returned to the house when her cell phone rang in her small bag.
It was Hsien Ming-yu calling.
She had barely pressed the call button and hadn't even had a chance to speak when his questioning voice came from the other end of the line.
His angry tone created an intimate distance between him and her.
[What are you doing at a hotel so late? Bai Xiaoruo, don't tell me you have other men in the US!]
"What? How did you know I went to..." This was the lobby on the first floor, and Bai Xiaoruo lowered her voice to avoid being overheard by others. "I'll tell you when I get back to my room."
[Go back to what room?! Answer me directly! What are you doing there?!]
"You!" Bai Xiaoruo hurried upstairs, returned to her room, and closed the door before replying to him, "Why are you being so fierce! I haven't done anything shameful!"
Bai Xiaoruo was also puzzled. She had only been gone for a short while, so why did Xian Mingyu know so much about her whereabouts?
[There's nothing to hide, why are you afraid I'll find out? What were you doing at the hotel? Who were you with? You can't stand being alone when I'm not around, can you?]
At that time, Xuan Mingyu found out from Bai Xiaoruo's phone location records that she took a car all the way to the hotel. He didn't look any further. He was so angry that he was about to explode. He called Bai Xiaoruo's phone several times, but it was always busy until just now.
If he hadn't been busy with work, he would have flown to the US immediately to see what she was doing!
What's a pregnant woman with a big belly doing at a hotel so late? Don't tell me she was just passing by and stopping for a bit!
"What did you say? You...how could you say that to me!"
What kind of person did he imagine her to be? Was she just unable to bear the loneliness?
If she really couldn't stand the loneliness, would she have kept this baby? She would have just aborted it as soon as she found out she was pregnant and gone off with someone else. Why suffer so much for him?
[Why can't you just tell me the truth if you haven't done anything to wrong me!]
The truth? What kind of truth does he want to hear?
He didn't even have the most basic trust in her, and questioned her innocence for no reason. What about the love he told her before?
Bai Xiaoruo took a deep breath and forced back the tears that were about to spill from her eyes. She needed to be rational; she didn't want to argue with him.
"You've asked me so many questions, now it's my turn to ask you, isn't it? How did you know where I went and who I met? Have you been keeping an eye on me the whole time?"
[I'm not as free as you! Bai Xiaoruo, I'm giving you one last chance. Are you going to tell me the truth or not?!]
"Opportunity? I don't need it! I won't say anything about things I haven't done!"
She hung up the call and threw the phone face down on the bed.
Bai Xiaoruo was furious at being wrongly accused by Xian Mingyu for no reason.
Suddenly, she noticed that the back of the phone was constantly flashing a faint blue light.
Something's not right.
How come she didn't notice this after using this phone for so long?
That's not the light for new message notifications.
Bai Xiaoruo picked up her phone and looked at it. There was no setting switch, so why was it always on and she couldn't turn it off?
A hypothesis popped into my mind.
Could it be that...
The phone he gave her wasn't just a simple phone; it was also a tool used to monitor her.
