On the second day at noon, Xian Mingyu was transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular ward.
His bodily functions have all returned to normal, but it will take some time before he wakes up, perhaps a few days, or even half a month or two.
Bai Xiaoruo was overjoyed to hear the news and even asked to have her hospital bed moved into his room so she could see him as soon as she woke up every day and wouldn't have to run around anymore.
After moving in with him, Bai Xiaoruo would fetch warm water herself at least three times a day and carefully wipe his body.
Friends who came to visit him also came to help, but Bai Xiaoruo said they didn't need it.
She also used a damp cotton swab to moisten his lips so they wouldn't crack.
From morning till night, she would hold Xian Mingyu's hand and chat with him tirelessly, even though she didn't know if he could hear her. She just loved talking to him.
She didn't go anywhere; she stayed in the hospital room with him every day.
She hoped he would wake up soon and respond to her.
That day, Bai Xiaoruo was wiping the face of Xuan Mingyu, who was still fast asleep in the hospital bed, with a warm, damp towel, as usual. When she picked up the basin of water that had cooled down and was about to take it to the bathroom to pour it out, a soft, childish voice gently called to her from behind.
"Mother."
Bai Xiaoruo was stunned for a moment, put down the basin of water in her hand, turned around and saw Xiaoyouyou carrying a small schoolbag with a conspicuous little red flower on her forehead. She had just come back from kindergarten.
Ever since Bai Xiaoruo pushed her away that day, Xiaoyouyou has wanted to come back to her mother, but she is also afraid that she will make her mother angry. So she always lets her grandmother hold her and watch from a distance, not daring to get close.
Today, her teacher praised her for being good and rewarded her with a little red flower. She wanted to tell her mother as soon as possible, wondering if her mother was still angry with her and if she was willing to forgive her.
The little one hunched her neck, pouted, and had red eyes. She wanted to get closer, but was afraid of being pushed away by her mother again. Her chubby little hands clutched a bag of bread, her mother's favorite bread. She had asked her grandmother to buy it for her on the way home, because she was afraid her mother would be hungry in the hospital and wanted to give it to her.
"Mommy...Youyou misses you...Youyou has been good and not naughty anymore...Mommy, have you eaten? Are you hungry?Youyou...brought bread for Mommy."
Seeing how sensible and cautious the little one was, Bai Xiaoruo felt extremely ashamed when she thought back to what she had done to her that day.
Youyou is so young, what did she do wrong? How could she push her? How could she say she didn't want her anymore?
She was the baby she had carried for months and raised with great care and hardship.
For the past four years, the mother and daughter have relied on each other for survival.
To her, she was everything in her life; how could she bear to abandon her?
Bai Xiaoruo slowly squatted down, tears welling in her eyes, and reached out her hand to Xiaoyouyou, "Youyou, come here, let Mommy hug you."
Little Youyou wanted to go over, but was also a little scared. Was her mother really willing to hug her? "Mommy, Youyou, is it really okay?"
"Of course you can, sweetie, come here, Mommy won't scold you."
Little Youyou pouted and burst into tears, running towards Bai Xiaoruo on her short legs. "Mommy! Mommy! Waaah... Youyou thought Mommy never wanted Youyou again... Youyou is so sad..."
"Don't cry, it's all Mommy's fault... Mommy shouldn't have been so mean to Youyou... Mommy promises Youyou, it won't happen again, it will never happen again..." Bai Xiaoruo hugged the little one tightly and cried too.
Youyou is not only her precious child, but also a gift from him. How could she not cherish her? How could he treat her so badly?
He must also be blaming her, blaming her for being so harsh on Youyou, which is why she was reluctant to wake up.
"Mommy..." Little Youyou lowered her sobs, afraid of disturbing her father who was sleeping in the hospital bed. The little one snuggled closer to her mother and pointed her chubby little finger at the high hospital bed, "Mommy, can Youyou see Daddy?"
“Yes, of course.” Bai Xiaoru wiped away the tears on her face, picked up the little one, walked closer to Xuan Mingyu’s hospital bed, and put her on the bedside. “Youyou, Daddy has been sleeping for a very long time. Can you wake Daddy up? But be quiet, Daddy will hear you.”
"Okay." Little Youyou nodded.
The chubby little hand gently patted Xian Mingyu's hand, and the little voice was cute and sweet: "Daddy, wake up, Youyou is here to play with you."
"Daddy, Youyou misses you so much, and Mommy misses you too. You can't sleep too long, or you'll turn into a big lazybones."
The little guy continued talking non-stop: "Daddy, today the teacher said Youyou was good and gave Youyou a little red flower as a reward. Open your eyes and look, isn't Youyou pretty today? The teacher said that if Youyou is good in the future, she will give Youyou two little red flowers as a reward."
"Dad, wake up and look at Youyou, otherwise Youyou won't play with you anymore."
"Daddy will definitely hear what Youyou is saying and wake up soon." Bai Xiaoruo kissed Youyou's little face and put her on the ground.
"Mommy's tummy is a little hungry. Did Youyou bring anything delicious for Mommy?" She glanced at the bag the little one was clutching tightly in his hand.
"It's Mom's favorite honey bread. Mom, try it! Youyou didn't dare to sneak a bite!"
Little Youyou lifted it high, wanting to give it to Bai Xiaoruo.
Bai Xiaoruo took the bread bag from her hand and pulled her towards the bathroom. "Silly girl, if you want to eat, just eat. Why do you have to sneak food? Come on, let Mommy take you to wash your hands, and then we'll eat delicious bread together."
