Chapter 53 Winking and Making Eyebrows

the next day.

When Bai Xiaoruo woke up groggily, she was the only one left in bed.

Xian Mingyu was not in the room, and even his clothes from yesterday were gone.

Bai Xiaoruo quickly pulled back the covers to check and found that her bathrobe was still on. Bai Xiaoruo breathed a sigh of relief; he really hadn't done anything to her.

This was the first time I had ever slept with a boy, apart from my mother, and I slept very soundly without any aversion.

After washing up and changing her clothes, Song Meiyan came downstairs. As soon as she saw Bai Xiaoruo, she smiled and put her arm around Bai Xiaoruo's, pulling her aside. "Xiaoruo, have you talked to Xianmingyu? Did he agree to lend a hand?"

Only after Song Meiyan reminded her did Bai Xiaoruo realize what was happening.

Oh no! I was too tired last night and fell asleep without saying much to Xian Mingyu. I had completely forgotten about what my stepmother had asked me to do.

"I... Auntie, Mingyu has been quite busy with work lately, and he went to bed very early last night. I forgot to tell him..."

Upon hearing Bai Xiaoruo's reply, Song Meiyan instantly turned hostile, shaking off her hand. "Tsk! How can you be so useless! You can't even speak properly! Forget it, I'm not counting on you anymore! Just be a good young mistress and don't bring shame to the Bai family!" Song Meiyan left sullenly.

After Song Meiyan left, Bai Xiaoruo felt much more relaxed. She had never dared to bring up such a thing with Xian Mingyu in the first place, and now that she no longer needed to show her face, she could continue to live her quiet life.

"Miss, breakfast is ready, please go and eat." Aunt Zhang came out of the kitchen.

"Hmm. By the way, Aunt Zhang, do you know where Xian Mingyu went? Has he already gone back?"

"My son-in-law should have gone to work by now, but he got up quite early. I had just brought out the dishes I had prepared at seven o'clock this morning when I saw him rushing downstairs with his briefcase and leaving."

"I see... He left without having breakfast?"

"Yes, it's strange, the young master seems to be quite picky about food and doesn't seem to like our food very much. Last night, when it was drizzling outside and I went out to pack things, the pastries and milk that you took out for the young master earlier were still untouched."

So, he didn't eat anything from last night until this morning?

Working on an empty stomach is so uncomfortable.

"No, he... isn't a picky eater. He ate something before he came over last night, but I forgot, so I took some pastries out again... Aunt Zhang, I'm going to have breakfast now." Bai Xiaoru casually made up an excuse to change the subject.

I don't know much about Xian Mingyu. Maybe he really did eat out before deciding not to eat here, or maybe the food just doesn't suit his taste.

***

After breakfast, Bai Xiaoruo used the landline on the first floor to call driver Lao Chen and asked him to come pick her up.

Since Xian Mingyu is no longer with the Bai family, the only thing he'll do by staying here is to annoy his father and stepmother.

After packing her things, Bai Xiaoruo picked up her bag and walked out.

I had just stepped out the door when I ran into an old acquaintance—

"Xiao Ruo, where are you going?" Ji Ziqian got out of the car and saw Bai Xiao Ruo. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly.

I haven't seen her for a few days, and it seems that the little girl has lost some weight, but her complexion is still very good.

"Brother Ziqian." Bai Xiaoruo didn't expect Ji Ziqian to come at this time.

"Brother Ziqian, it's not the weekend today. You should be in school right now."

"Silly girl, have you forgotten? I'm about to start my internship. I don't have many classes, so I won't be going to school. I've been busy looking for a suitable internship lately." Ji Ziqian's eyes were full of affection as he reached out and patted Bai Xiaoruo's head. He had been quite busy these past few days, but when his younger sister Ji Shushu told him that Bai Xiaoruo had taken several days off at home, he was worried that something had happened to her, so Ji Ziqian immediately put down what he was doing and took some time to come and see her.

"Internship? But Ziqian, your family owns a company, wouldn't it be more convenient to intern directly under Uncle Ji?"

Ji Ziqian shook his head. "If I go directly to Jiqiu, in the eyes of outsiders, I will just be a parasite relying on my family, rather than finding an internship based on my own abilities. Although I will eventually have to work at Jiqiu, I want to try more new challenges during my internship."

“Brother Ziqian, you’re not a parasite. You’ve always been excellent and amazing.”

"Hehe, Xiaoruo, your words really give me confidence instantly." Ji Ziqian noticed the bag Bai Xiaoruo was carrying. "Xiaoruo, where are you going with such a big bag? I heard from Shushu that you took several days off. What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"This..." Bai Xiaoruo didn't know how to tell Ji Ziqian for a moment. Shushu was such a big mouth, why did she tell Brother Ziqian everything?

"I didn't go anywhere. I was just, uh, going to a friend's house, and... I brought her a gift... I asked for leave because something happened at home recently, so it's inconvenient for me to go to school, so... But don't worry, Ziqian, I'll be back at school tomorrow."

"I'm relieved you're alright. Where does your friend live? Is it far? I just happened to be driving by; how about I give you a ride?"

"Ah, this..."

Just then, Old Chen drove up and parked steadily at the entrance.

"Brother Ziqian, no need to trouble yourself, my friend's driver is here to pick me up."

Old Chen got out of the car, walked around to the other side, opened the door for Bai Xiaoruo, and bowed respectfully: "Young Master..."
