Chapter 66 Not Taking It Seriously

Is a fleeting moment of spring night worth a thousand pieces of gold?

Did they really do that kind of thing?

No! That can't be!

Bai Xiaoru shook her head, trying to calm down. She had to calm down. "Bai Xiaoru, you big idiot, what are you thinking? You haven't even seen anything yet, how can you assume what kind of person he is?"

“Sister Annie, I think they might just be ordinary friends having a meal together. After all, he has a family and wouldn’t mess around with other people.”

"Married? My God, Xiaoruo, do you know something? How do you know the president is married? Who is his wife?" As if she had accidentally unearthed a shocking piece of gossip, Annie excitedly grabbed Bai Xiaoruo's hand, eager to hear more gossip about her boss from her.

"I... Sister Annie, you're hurting me. I don't know anything..." Realizing she had said the wrong thing, Bai Xiaoruo quickly changed the subject.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. Are you alright? Does it still hurt?" Annie quickly let go of Bai Xiaoruo's arm and gently blew on it, thinking that she had really hurt her arm when she grabbed it.

"I don't feel pain anymore." Bai Xiaoru shook her head. "Sister Annie, I was just talking nonsense. Don't take it seriously. How would I know if your CEO has a wife or not?"

"Oh, I see... That makes sense. As his secretary who's always following him around, I had no idea. How could you, a girl who's barely met him, have uncovered such a big secret? Okay, let's not talk about him anymore. I'll take you home. It's so late, your family must be worried."

The two walked to the car, opened the door, and got in together.

This car doesn't actually belong to Annie; it's a work car provided to her by Xian Mingyu. It belongs to the company, and Annie is only allowed to drive it when she needs to go on business trips. However, it's no different from Annie's own car. Anyway, she hasn't bought a car yet, so she still drives it to and from get off work, which is such a long distance.

After the car had been driving smoothly for a while, Bai Xiaoruo felt that they were almost there, so she quickly asked Annie to stop the car.

"Xiao Ruo, are you really going to get off here? Let me take you to your doorstep instead." Annie sat in the driver's seat and looked around. There was no village or shop in sight, and even the streetlights were scarce. It was too unsafe to let Bai Xiao Ruo get off here.

"No need, Sister Annie. My house is just ahead. My dad has a terrible temper. I'll have to sneak in later. If he sees me hitching a ride home, I'll get a really bad scolding." Bai Xiaoru casually told Annie a little white lie.

However, if what happened tonight had happened when I lived in the Bai family before, I would have been severely reprimanded by my father, Bai Xiaofu would have fanned the flames, and my stepmother would have pretended to protect me while actually telling my father all sorts of nonsense about my crimes.

Bai Xiaoruo had long been fed up with that kind of home, and now, the Xuan family was her safe haven. After living here, all the big and small matters of the Bai family were no longer her concern. The more than ten years of life she had lived like a lowly servant after her mother's death had finally brought her a rare freedom.

"Why is your dad like this? I'm not a man, what's wrong with driving you home! Honestly! Xiao Ruo, be careful on your way home, call me when you get home, and please, please be careful."

"Okay, I understand. Be careful on your way, Annie. I'm on my way now."

Bai Xiaoruo unbuckled her seatbelt, took the lunchbox from the back seat, opened the car door, and got out.

Watching Annie start her car and drive away again, Bai Xiaoruo carefully followed the same route back to where she was now living.

As soon as she entered the house, Aunt Qin and Uncle Bi rushed over to greet Bai Xiaoruo warmly.

Bai Xiaoruo left home around 2 p.m. today but has only just returned, which has made them very worried. They were thinking that if Bai Xiaoruo didn't come back soon and they couldn't contact her, they would call Xian Mingyu directly.

After hearing this, Bai Xiaoruo was thankful that she had returned early; otherwise, if they had actually called Xuan Mingyu, he would have known who had brought him lunch today.

She called Annie to say she had arrived home safely, ate a quick dinner (she didn't have much of an appetite), and Xia had already prepared a hot bath for Bai Xiaoruo, so she got up and went upstairs.

It's rare for me to have a proper nap on the weekend, but I've already felt sleepy.

After taking a shower, Bai Xiaoru stretched, moved her hands, feet and neck, applied a face mask, and quickly went to bed to sleep.

Suddenly, the scene of seeing Xian Mingyu getting into a car with another woman in the parking lot flashed through her mind, as did the scene of Bai Xiaofu being released from prison and walking hand in hand with Ziqian to a restaurant for a meal. Bai Xiaoruo lay on the bed, frowned, turned over, and tossed and turned a few more times.

I was feeling sleepy, but I suddenly became inexplicably irritable and couldn't fall asleep.

Perhaps I really shouldn't go out today. Apart from running into Sister Annie, everything else has been so terrible.

Suddenly opening her eyes, Bai Xiaoruo threw off the covers and sat up in bed, turning on the bedside lamp and looking out at the dark night.

She grabbed a coat from beside the bed, put it on, slipped on her slippers, and got up to go outside to the balcony.

It's been over three months. Shouldn't I have gotten used to him not being home by now? But what's wrong with me today? Just because I brought him lunch and saw him getting into a car with another woman in the parking lot, does that make me feel so uncomfortable?
