The car drove into one uneven pothole after another, swaying up and down. Bai Xiaoruo lost her balance and hit her head hard on the roof, which hurt terribly.
During the second impact, a pair of warm, large hands quickly protected her, pulling her tightly into their arms and shielding her from the surrounding harm.
Bai Xiaoruo forgot to push Xuan Mingyu away and let him hold her like that until she heard a muffled groan above her head. When Bai Xiaoruo looked up, she realized that he seemed to be enduring something. Beads of sweat the size of beans soaked the stray hairs on his forehead, and his face showed a painful expression.
What happened?
Did it hit something?
Bai Xiaoruo didn't dare to move around until the car drove back to flat ground, at which point she managed to break free from his embrace.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"It's okay... I'm fine..." Xuan Mingyu had almost pushed the pain in his back to its limit.

Bai Xiaoruo took two tissues out of her bag and handed them to him. "Here, wipe your sweat. If you really feel that hot, you can open the window. I'm not cold."
Bai Xiaoruo thought that Xian Mingyu was sweating so much simply because it was too hot.
"Thank you, I'm fine." Xuan Mingyu took the tissue from Bai Xiaoruo's hand. His vision blurred for a moment, but he endured it and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the tissue.
He kept telling himself silently: It's okay, he's not that fragile, and he can't appear so useless in front of her.
He can bear it; it's just a minor injury.
Bai Xiaoruo didn't think much of it and turned to look at the scenery outside the car window. The car had been driving for a while, and they should be almost at Grandpa's house.
