Chapter 21 Moving Out and Living Alone

Chen Feng was startled and swallowed back the profanities that were slurring her speech.

Given Chen Jingyan's current ruthlessness, Chen Feng was completely convinced that if she was provoked, she would take an axe and chop someone up.

"Dad, you gave all the money to Jingya, how are we going to celebrate the New Year?"

Shen Yuqin asked Shen Honggang through sobs.

Every year during the Spring Festival, she dresses up beautifully and spends the holiday amidst the praise of relatives and friends.

It's already the 28th of the twelfth lunar month, but she still doesn't have a single new piece of clothing.

The thought of all the admiring and praising glances from her relatives and friends falling on Shen Jingyan made her feel incredibly uncomfortable.

"Shen Honggang, you don't even care about your wife and daughter, do you? If you don't give me money, I'll take my daughter back to my parents' home and see who you spend the New Year with!"

Seeing that threats did not work on Shen Jingyan, Chen Feng then turned to threaten Shen Honggang.

Shen Hong had just seen off a group of debt collectors, and was now exhausted both physically and mentally from Chen Feng and Shen Yuqin's unreasonable behavior.

With red eyes, he roared hoarsely, "Go away, and don't ever come back! We can still celebrate the New Year without you!"

After saying that, he slammed the door and left without looking back.

Chen Feng had been married to Shen Honggang for over twenty years, and this was the first time she had ever seen him lose his temper like this. She was so frightened that she became obedient.

He patted the dirt off his bottom, stood up dejectedly, and went inside.

Shen Honggang headed towards the forest farm.

Shen Jingyan quickly followed.

When Shen Jingyan caught up with Shen Honggang at the forest farm, he was lying in the workers' dormitory, staring blankly at the roof, lost in thought.

Shen Honggang doesn't usually live in the dormitory; he only lies down for half an hour at noon when he's tired after work.

The forest farm stopped work on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, and the workers all went home for the Spring Festival, leaving the dormitories empty.

When Shen Jingyan pushed the door open and came in, the dormitory was quiet, and you could hear Shen Honggang snorting.

Upon seeing Shen Jingyan enter, Shen Honggang sat up, looking exhausted.

Shen Jingyan took out the thirty yuan from her pocket and handed it to Shen Honggang, saying:

"Uncle, you keep the money. I still have some. We still need to celebrate the New Year."

Shen Honggang sat there blankly, without saying a word or reaching out.

Shen Jingyan stuffed the money into his pocket and sat on the bed opposite him.

"Uncle, I'll be eighteen after the New Year. I want to move out and live on my own, and I'll also transfer my household registration."

Shen Jingyan had been thinking about the matter of separating from the family and living independently for a long time.

She now has the ability to earn money and can start her own business after she turns eighteen.

Living alone gives me more freedom and saves me from having Chen Feng and her daughter watching my things every day and plotting something bad.

Upon hearing that Shen Jingyan wanted to move out, Shen Honggang finally reacted.

He looked up, his eyes filled with guilt and worry.

"You're moving out? Jingya, you're still young, wait another two years..."

Shen Honggang knew he had let Shen Jingyan down. The child had been abused by Chen Feng since childhood, and he was powerless to stop it, which resulted in the child not being very close to him before.

Now that their relationship has just started to improve, the child wants to move out.

“Uncle, I’ll be eighteen after the New Year. I’m not a child anymore. I can take care of myself.”

She said calmly, "I'll move out and transfer my household registration, then my aunt won't make a fuss about my marriage anymore."

Thinking about the troubles caused by Chen Feng's greed for a dowry of five hundred yuan, Shen Honggang also felt that Shen Jingyan's words made sense.

"Where do you want to move to?" Shen Honggang asked.

Seeing that Shen Honggang had finally relented, Shen Jingyan revealed her plan.

“I want to move to the town, rent a house to live in first, and it will be more convenient to do business. I will make other plans when I have more money in the future.”

Shen Honggang pondered silently for a while before speaking:

“Jingya, you’ve made something of yourself, and your uncle is very happy. But you’ve moved to town, which is a bit far from home, and your uncle is still a little worried about you.”

"I'll come back to visit whenever I have time."

"How about this, you move to the forest farm first."

Shen Honggang suggested, "There are still a few empty dormitories in the forest farm. I can talk to your Grandpa Xu about it. That way, you will be out of your aunt's sight, but your uncle can still see you often. It's always good for relatives to have someone to look after them."

After considering it for a while, Shen Jingyan felt that the plan was feasible.

She lived in the forest farm and could often invite Shen Honggang over for meals.

Shen Honggang is a man who cares about his reputation; he certainly wouldn't accept both food and gifts.

This way, unlike before, the good meals she gave to Shen Honggang wouldn't end up benefiting Chen Feng and her daughter.

Anzi also often plays with the children around the forest farm, which makes it convenient for her to take care of them.

She has a scale in her heart and knows who she should be good to.

"Uncle, I think it's a good idea. Why don't I move it today?"

Shen Jingyan didn't want to stay in the Shen family's backyard for even a day.

"Okay, your uncle will help you move it."

Shen Honggang slapped his thigh and stood up, saying, "You live alone, it's quiet, and you don't have so many troubles."

“Let’s move our luggage over first, and then we can transfer our household registration after the police station opens for business after the New Year,” Shen Jingyan said.

Without further ado, Shen Honggang took Shen Jingyan to find Lao Xu.

Mr. and Mrs. Xu were busy steaming buns and frying crispy pork, preparing food for the Chinese New Year.

Only three educated youth stayed at the forest farm for the Spring Festival this year, but Old Xu and his wife were warm-hearted and kind-hearted and never mistreated these educated youth. They always used their own wages to subsidize the educated youth and buy them good food.

As soon as Shen Honggang mentioned Shen Jingyan's move, Lao Xu immediately agreed.

Grandma Xu, Old Xu's wife, immediately put down her work and brought Shen Jingyan to check on the dormitory.

"Look, Jingya, this is a single room. It's the only single room in our forest farm. You can stay here!"
