Shen Honggang pressed for an answer.
"I saw Su Xin again two years later."
Xu Honglin was lost in his memories, a slight smile appearing on his face. "I thought it was because I wasn't good enough that Su Xin gave up. I tried hard to forget her, but the moment I ran into her at the hospital, I was completely captivated again."
She was sitting in a wheelchair, very weak. I went up to greet her, but she didn't remember who I was at all. I asked the doctor and found out that she had been exposed to nuclear radiation, which had severely damaged her brain, and she couldn't even remember who she was.

She was the sole survivor of that horrific nuclear accident. All the data from that project was destroyed. The hospital registered her name as Qiao Suxin, but I know that may not be her real name. No one knows what her real name was anymore.
Fortunately, her injuries were not serious, and her body slowly recovered. However, she lost her memory and could never get it back. Over the years, whenever she tried to recall the past, her brain would explode with pain. So we made a pact not to dwell on the past and to cherish the days to come.
And so, we fell in love again. After she was discharged from the hospital, we had a quiet wedding, and later we had Feifei.
After listening to Xu Honglin's story, Shen Honggang looked ashamed. He slowly sat down next to Xu Honglin, covered his face, and sighed.
"It was my words that provoked Akiha."
The mystery that had troubled him for years was finally solved.
It wasn't that Shen Qiuye abandoned Shen Jingyan, nor that she suddenly disappeared without a trace. It was that she participated in another secret project, had an accident, and forgot who she was, her hometown and relatives, and even her lovely daughter Jingya.
"Brother, it's not your fault," Xu Honglin said. "I should have guessed it a long time ago. I was just too stupid!"
He looked at Shen Jingyan with loving yet self-reproachful eyes, "Jingya, the first time I saw you, I felt an instant connection with you. My dad always said you were his granddaughter, but Suxin and I didn't really believe it... Suxin kept telling me that seeing you was like seeing her long-lost daughter, but neither of us could remember having a daughter, and neither of us knew we had a daughter like you..."
Shen Jingyan merely moved her lips, unsure how to respond.

Suddenly having parents and no longer being an orphan left her feeling overwhelmed by this unexpected "surprise."
Just then, the doctor came out of the examination room with several test reports in his hand.
Everyone quickly gathered around.
"The patient is fine; it's just that the brain was stimulated and there's a little bleeding from the ear. A few days of rest and some medication will do the trick. Remember not to let the patient be stimulated again!"
Xu Honglin quickly took the order and hurried downstairs to get the medicine.
A short while later, Qiao Suxin was wheeled out and placed in a ward.
She was still unconscious. Shen Honggang and Xu Honglin stood around the hospital bed, the two grown men looking clumsy and flustered.
Shen Jingyan hesitated for a long time, but did not step into the ward.
Gu Zhiyun stepped forward, gently took her hand, and said softly, "Let me accompany you downstairs for a walk."
Chen Jingyan said that he really needed to breathe some fresh air at that moment.

The two strolled slowly to the small park, where the setting sun cast a particularly soft glow, and a refreshing breeze blew across the lake.
After walking around the artificial lake twice, Chen Jingyan slowly spoke, "Brother Yun."
"Yes, I'm here." Gu Zhiyun's voice was right next to her ear.
Gu Zhiyun's gentle yet powerful voice dispelled some of the confusion and helplessness in Shen Jingyan's heart.
She had long been accustomed to life without her parents.
But suddenly, she had a father, a mother, a younger sister, and a grandfather. This should have been a happy occasion, but she felt somewhat lost.
Gu Zhiyun understood her feelings, took her hand and sat her down on the bench, then put his arm around her head and let her rest it on his shoulder.
"Isn't it great that so many people suddenly care about you?"
"It's pretty good."
Shen Jingyan murmured, "It's just... I feel like I don't know who I am anymore..."
Gu Zhiyun pinched her rosy cheeks: "No matter how many more relatives you have, you will always be my little wife."
Shen Jingyan reached out and gently but firmly hugged Gu Zhiyun's waist.
"Yes, that's me."
"Jingya, once you've thought it through, go back and visit Aunt Qiao. Call her 'Mom,' and she'll be very happy."
Shen Jingyan looked up and winked at Gu Zhiyun: "You're my husband, so you should call me 'Mom' too."
"Hey, now I'm really Professor Xu's grandson-in-law."
