In the dim light, a woman of about thirty years old held a boy who was a little over one year old in her arms, and stirred the porridge in the pot with her other hand. Next to her, a little girl of six or seven years old stood on a small stool, holding a kitchen knife that was disproportionate to her small hand, and was struggling to cut potatoes.
Shen Jingyan also noticed that the woman's abdomen was slightly protruding, indicating that she was pregnant.
Two well-dressed, celebrity-looking young man and woman suddenly appeared in the hallway. The woman paused for a moment before asking:
Who are you looking for?
She spoke with a strong southern accent.
Gu Zhiyun politely asked, "Does Liang Junsheng live here?"
After hearing this, the woman looked Gu Zhiyun up and down carefully, as if she had some doubts.
“We are his classmates,” Shen Jingyan quickly added.
"Xiaoman, who are you talking to?"
A man's voice came from inside the room; it was Liang Junsheng!
Two people are looking for you, claiming to be your classmates!
The woman called out into the house.
"Classmate? What classmate? Which classmate would like to contact me?"
Liang Junsheng mumbled as he walked out, and when he saw Gu Zhiyun, he froze on the spot.

The Liang Junsheng of today is no longer the spirited man he once was. The pride and confidence in his eyes have been worn away, and his gaze is somewhat wooden.
"Gu...how...how did you find me?"
Gu Zhiyun disliked beating around the bush, so he directly took out the international academic journal and handed it to him.
"Jiang Shu plagiarized your paper, did you know that?"
He had expected Liang Junsheng to be shocked and then furious, but to his surprise, Liang Junsheng was neither surprised nor angry.
His calmness exceeded Gu Zhiyun's expectations.
"You knew he plagiarized? Or are you saying you..."
Gu Zhiyun guessed the worst outcome: Liang Junsheng, forced by financial necessity, became Jiang Shu's ghostwriter.
When Liang Junsheng saw Gu Zhiyun, he was filled with mixed emotions. After hesitating for a long time, he stammered:
"It's a long story... Let's go inside."

Shen Jingyan had thought that Liang Junsheng would be emotionally agitated upon seeing Gu Zhiyun, and might even come to blows with him, given the major conflict the two had once had.
Liang Junsheng blamed his misfortune on Gu Zhiyun, which was not surprising to Shen Jingyan at all.
However, when Liang Junsheng saw Gu Zhiyun, he was surprised but showed no hatred whatsoever, and his tone was quite humble.
Upon entering the house, Chen Jingyan sighed again.
Liang Junsheng's life is really not easy.
The rooms in these tenement buildings are very small. A bed, a wardrobe, and a dining table almost fill the gaps in the room. There is also a small partitioned room next to it, which should be Liang Junsheng's study. Shen Jingyan glanced inside. The small room was even smaller and filled with books. Apart from that, there was only a small desk.
There was no place to entertain guests in the room, so Liang Junsheng brought out two small stools for the two of them.
"The house is small, please make do with a seat..."
Liang Junsheng said awkwardly.
“No need,” Gu Zhiyun said. “We came here to find out exactly what happened with the thesis.”
Liang Junsheng looked somewhat uneasy, probably feeling ashamed, and stammered, refusing to speak.
"Professor Xu and Professor Tang have both reviewed your submitted experimental report, and they have already discovered the irregularities in the paper."
Gu Zhiyun said calmly, "Both professors are intolerant of plagiarism. They would never condone plagiarism in academia, especially since this article was published in an international journal. If it were exposed, it would be a disgrace to our country's scholars."
Suddenly, a little boy of three or four years old darted out of the study and ran past Shen Jingyan.
He ran into the stairwell and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Mom, Mom, I'm hungry, I'm hungry!"
Shen Jingyan was dumbfounded. Although Liang Junsheng was having a hard time, he hadn't neglected having children at all!
Liang Junsheng sighed deeply, looking helpless.
“Gu Zhiyun, you don’t understand my situation. I’m not like you. You come from a well-off family and have no worries about food or clothing, but I… as you can see, I have a whole family to support. My father is sick and still in the hospital. The hospital keeps pressing for payment of hospital fees every few days. I really have no other choice…”
After listening calmly, he was somewhat speechless.
Knowing that life is tough, why do they keep having children? Can't they control their own spending?
Gu Zhiyun frowned and sincerely offered advice: "Now that the country is advocating for eugenics, you can go to the hospital for a consultation. It's free. Just bring your marriage certificate."
Liang Junsheng was an extremely intelligent man, so he could easily understand the meaning behind those words. He nodded, blushing.
Looking at the room full of old furniture, Shen Jingyan couldn't help but ask:
"With your qualifications and abilities, you haven't been able to find a job?"
Liang Junsheng smiled bitterly, "I'm someone who's been in the newspapers, a notorious traitor. What organization would want me? Even the job writing articles for the elementary school science newspaper was introduced to me by Jiang Shu. The pay is thirty or fifty yuan a month, barely enough to support my family."
