Chapter 82 Her Fragility
Li Runrun returned to the Marquis' Mansion. Ye Qiaoqiao wanted to send her back, but Li Runrun refused: "Go back quickly and hide the banknotes. If the prince finds out, all of them will be gone."
Ye Qiaoqiao was angry: "Money is not as important as you."
"Don't be angry. I have Li Bai by my side. I can't lose you if I lose you too. That would mean all our hard work would be in vain."
Li Runrun was firm in her attitude, and Li Bai nodded vigorously to indicate that she could take good care of Li Runrun.
Ye Qiaoqiao's eyes were red, and she looked extremely distressed. "Then talk to big brother nicely. I believe big brother is a reasonable person. Do you have any burn medicine? I'll go call the court doctor for you."
"I have everything for burns and scar removal, including the finest wound medicine. Go back and keep quiet. If you meet my father and brother, don't mention what happened today. I'm tired too. I'll go back and sleep."
Ye Qiaoqiao then left, looking back every three steps.
Returning to the ear room, Li Bai hurriedly fetched a basin of water.
Li Runrun stood in front of the dressing table. She looked at herself in a dishevel and with messy hair, her hands were shaking as she took off her clothes.
Li Bai hurried over to help. When she took off her inner clothes, the blisters from the burns had melted with blood and stuck to her skin.
Li Bai tore it down and saw that Li Ruanruan was shaking with pain all over. Her eyes suddenly turned red and tears fell. She wiped them away hurriedly.
She couldn't speak either and was very anxious.
It was Li Ruanruan who reached out again. She grabbed the collar, took a deep breath, and then tore it off with force. She fell on the dressing table and screamed.
When Li Bai saw the shocking burns, she felt so painful just by looking at them that she didn't dare to do anything for a moment, and her heart ached.
Li Ruanruan paused for a moment and instructed her, "Go get the jar of wine from under my bed, clean the wound, and apply medicine."
Li Runrun took out the unused medicine from the drawer that her father and brother had left. This medicine was very effective in treating external injuries. Her blisters had broken, so it should be considered an external injury.
It hurt so much that Li Ruanruan's eyes turned black.
Li Bai did as Li Ruanruan instructed. She poured out the liquor, found a clean cloth, dipped it in the liquor and used it to clean Li Ruanruan's wound. Her hands were shaking.
Li Runrun's forehead was covered in cold sweat because of the pain from the wound.
Then she thought of Xu Wan's slightly red white hand. The pain in her heart overshadowed the pain in her body, and she felt a little better as if she was being abused.
How can she compare with Xu Wan?
The medicine was finally applied. Li Bai carefully bandaged Li Ruanruan and helped her change into clean underwear.
He supported the uninjured side of Li Ruanruan and helped her sit down on the edge of the bed.
Li Ruanruan grabbed her hand and said, "Xiaobai, thank goodness you're here so I don't have to carry this alone."
Li Bai's tears suddenly fell. She grabbed Li Bai's soft hand and wrote on her palm: "Are you hungry? I'll go get you dinner."
Li Ruanruan actually no longer felt anything. She couldn't eat anything, her body ached, and she felt uncomfortable.
But in order to get better soon, she nodded.
Li Bai went out.
Li Ruanruan leaned on the bed with her uninjured side. I don’t know if it was because of the medicine or if she was numb from the pain.
Li Ruanruan suddenly felt sleepy.
Li Bai came out of the kitchen and met the prince who had just returned from outside. She was so scared that her hands were shaking.
I don’t know whether the prince will still pursue the fault of the concubine.
Li Bai didn't dare to go forward.
Ye Yunchu waved at her.
Li Bai went over and bowed.
Ye Yunchu looked at the food she brought, and then said, "Tell her to come and eat with me."
Li Bai looked at Ye Yunchu's back and stood there. The concubine was injured like this, but the prince didn't even bother to take a look. He even asked the concubine to come and serve him meals.
He was so nice before, but now he is so cold.
If Xu Wan really gets married in the future, I'm afraid that the good days of being a concubine will no longer exist.
Li Bai felt that Li Runrun could not compete with Xu Wan. A lady from a famous family like that was even coaxed and respected by the prince because of the influence of her family. What could Li Runrun use to compete with her?
Is it because of the prince's favor that appears and disappears at times and changes his expression faster than turning the pages of a book?
No wonder the concubine is so sad today. Sometimes being a concubine is worse than being a maid.
Li Bai sighed and walked towards the ear room.
But Li Runrun was sleeping soundly.
Li Bai couldn't bear to wake her up, so she ran to answer.
Haitang was already serving the dishes, and Libai handed the written note to the prince.
Ye Yunchu didn't answer.
The pear was placed on the table.
He took a quick glance and said, "The burns on the maid's bed were very severe. I cried a lot during the treatment. Now I am tired of crying and have fallen into a deep sleep."
Ye Yunchu frowned, but did not respond. He waved his hand to let Li Bai go.
Li Bai walked out with her head down, feeling very dejected.
When the prince didn't come, Li Bai would stay with Li Ruanruan. She would eat when the concubine woke up, and if the food got cold, she would go and heat it up for the concubine.
Li Bai perked up.
Li Runrun slept very uneasily. In her dream, she saw Ye Yunchu and Xu Wan loving each other. They were so well-matched, but she could only watch them in a dark corner, unable to see the light.
Li Runrun felt very cold and painful, like the weeds at the foot of the wall, which withered little by little in the cold winter.
Maybe it will be full of vitality again next spring, but it will require great courage.
Li Bai was the first to notice that something was wrong with Li Runrun. She touched her forehead and found it was burning hot.
Li Bai ran out to find the palace doctor, but bumped into Haitang, who scolded her: "Why are you in such a hurry? You almost bumped into the prince."
Li Bai's face turned a little paler. She stepped back and gestured, meaning that Li Runrun had a fever and was very hot.
But she was not sure whether the prince could understand it.
Fortunately, the prince has already entered the ear room.
Li Runrun also propped herself up uncomfortably, but she felt weak all over.
Seeing that there was no one by the bed, she forced herself to get up and felt the burning temperature on her forehead. She wanted to wring a cold towel from the basin and apply it to her forehead, otherwise she was afraid that she would get burned into a fool.
She was already lowly, and now she becomes a fool. Then, she, her father, and her brother will never be able to make a name for themselves in this life.
She couldn't fall down yet because her father and brother hadn't redeemed her and she hadn't become a good citizen.
She couldn't escape from this cannibalistic backyard, but her father and brother had a chance. If she worked harder, at least her father and brother would have a better life.
As for her, if she couldn't survive one day, she would have no regrets.
Li Ruanruan staggered out of bed and suddenly fell forward with a dizzy head.
Just when she thought she was going to fall badly, a hand firmly grasped her waist. She smelled the familiar light sandalwood scent and knew without raising her eyes that it was the prince.
Li Runrun's whole body stiffened, and she kept her eyes down, because she was afraid that if she looked up and saw him, he would discover her fragility, her unbearableness, and her unrealistic hopes.
