Fu Chen held a cigarette between his fingers and stretched it out of the car window to flick the butt, then lowered his eyes and remained silent.
Meng Ning didn't say anything, just waited for his reply.
The car suddenly became quiet. Meng Ning, whose pain in his head was gradually easing, returned to his usual silence and composure when facing Fu Chen.
The man suddenly opened the car door, got out and stomped out his cigarette. Noticing that no one in the car had moved for a long time, he looked up and saw the girl sitting there, daydreaming about something.
Ha! She must be thinking about her good-for-nothing ex-husband!
Fu Chen snorted coldly, and seeing that she hadn't responded yet, he said unhappily, "Do you still want me to treat you?"
She was actually just thinking about how to tell her family, but she was interrupted by Fu Chen before she could make up her mind. Seeing that he looked like someone owed him money, Meng Ning felt a little annoyed.
It was clearly me who suffered for him, so what's that expression on his face?
But then she thought, how can this be explained? Fu Chen saved her and nearly got hit by a brick. She pushed him away and cracked his head, but Fu Chen was also trying to save her.
It’s just… I can’t explain it clearly, it’s very confusing.
When she got out of the car and closed the door, Fu Chen was almost at the door of Meng's house with his long legs. Meng Ning trotted over and pulled him aside:
"Have you thought about what to say?"
"No." He looked at her and uttered two words coldly, which made Meng Ning feel inexplicably annoyed. How had she offended this guy again? He acted like she owed him money.
Seeing Fu Chen walking straight ahead, she hurried to catch up, muttering: "Even more moody than a woman! Big ice cube, walking so fast!"
"Hiss! Fu! Chen!"
Meng Ning squatted on the ground, clutching his wound, breathing in the cold air. "I'm not going to leave. I'm so fed up! I can do whatever I want!"
"sorry."
Meng Ning squatted on the ground, covering his wound, raised his head and stared at him intently, but this stare, filled with tears, had no deterrent effect.
Fu Chen curled his lips and straightened his lines: "I didn't expect you to walk without looking ahead."
This sentence is so infuriating!
"Who told you to stop suddenly while walking?"
Meng Ning rolled his eyes in anger and let out a long sigh. He really didn't want to look at him again.
He pursed his lips, lowered his eyes, and leaned forward slightly. Meng Ning was sulking when suddenly a big hand reached out in front of her. She raised her eyes and looked over confusedly. The corners of the man's lips were slightly raised, and his usual deep eyes were staring at her, as if waiting for her response.
It was as if time had stopped at this moment.
Meng Ning slowly extended her hand, and her fingertips were almost touching his. Suddenly, she pulled her hand back, not knowing what she was thinking. She stood up and walked ahead.
"Let's go."
Fu Chen looked at his empty hands, his fingers curled up unconsciously twice, and a trace of imperceptible loneliness flashed across his eyebrows.
"Hurry up, why are you standing there!" Meng Ning's voice came from a few steps away. He collected his thoughts, turned around and followed.
The Meng family had just finished dinner and were surprised to see Fu Chen following Meng Ning. When they got closer and saw that Meng Ning had gauze on his head, they were immediately shocked.
"What's going on? What happened? Ningning?" The old man and Meng Jianjun hadn't spoken yet, but Ye Qiu was extremely anxious.
"Did Huang Dani come to see you again?"
"Mom, I'm fine. It's none of her business."
Fu Chen walked over and looked at her
"Grandpa Meng."
"Why."
"Uncle, aunt,"
"Fu Chen is here." Meng Jianjun walked up to him and prepared to hand him a cigarette. Fu Chen took out the cigarette box from his pocket and handed it to him first.
The old man waved his hand and said, "I've given up."
Fu Chen was quite surprised. He smiled and said:
"Then you must persuade my grandfather to learn from you. I've told him countless times, but he won't listen."
"Okay! I'll go to the nursing home to talk to Old Fu tomorrow." The old man was happy to see Fu Chen. He had liked this kid since he was a child. They had a good impression of each other!
Otherwise, can we arrange a marriage for the child? Even now, he still looks very pleasing to the eye. Thinking about it, he glanced at Meng Ning who was sitting beside him.
I wanted to glare at her, but when I saw there was still gauze on her head, I gave up and stopped glaring.
Meng Ning was puzzled by his grandfather's look. Just when he was about to ask, he heard the old man speak.
"You haven't told me what happened to your head?"
“That’s…that’s…”
Meng Ning hesitated a little, and the Meng family members frowned and listened attentively, wanting to see what she could come up with by being so shy.
"It's like this. We were on patrol today, and I happened to run into Meng Ning who had just gotten off work. There was a guy I had arrested before who held a grudge against me, and maybe we met on the road. He suddenly attacked me from behind, and it was Meng Ning who blocked it for me, on the head." He paused.
Under the gaze of the Meng family, he spoke with a stiff upper lip:
"I got seven stitches in my head."
In the end, he didn't reveal the man as she wished. Meng Ning breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn't because she felt sorry for Ma Fei, but the charges he was facing were not light.
If her family knew that Ma Fei was still pestering her, it would only make them more worried.
But she didn't know that Fu Chen understood that she was afraid that the Meng family would retaliate against Ma Fei, so she concealed it to protect him.
"Oh my God." Ye Qiu covered his mouth and looked at Meng Ning with heartache.
"I'm sorry, aunt, uncle, and Grandpa Meng. It's all my fault. It was me who caused Ningning to get injured." He looked sincere, and his words were not disingenuous. He was already feeling guilty.
"I don't blame you." Meng Jianjun waved his hand. Feeling sorry for his daughter was one thing, but he still had to be able to distinguish right from wrong.
The old man also comforted Fu Chen and told him not to feel too bad.
Then Fu Chen stayed for a long time before getting up to say goodbye. When everyone went back to their rooms, Ye Qiu followed Meng Ning into her room.
