Chapter 49: The Emperor Without Heirs VS the Stunning Concubine

Gu Qingqing got angry and called Xiao Cui to come and pack up her things. Gu Chenshi couldn't stop her. Sun Chongming persuaded Gu Chenshi not to worry about these things anymore, as Qingqing had her own plans.

Gu Chen smiled bitterly, and finally watched Gu Qingqing get on the carriage back to the Sun Mansion.

The carriage started slowly and soon disappeared into the night.

Gu Qingqing lay on Sun Chongming's legs, trying her best to avoid touching her back, but the slightest movement of the carriage would involve the wound, and she was in so much pain that her eyes were filled with tears.

Sun Chongming felt so distressed seeing her like this, but he didn't say anything harsh.

Gu Qingqing was already sad enough, and if he said those self-righteous words again, it would only make her even sadder.

The carriage wobbled to the gate of the Sun residence. There was only a doorman waiting at the huge entrance, and Sun's father and mother were nowhere to be seen.

Gu Qingqing was only sad for a moment, and then was carried inside by Sun Chongming.

As soon as Gu Qingqing came back, the yard was busy again. Some people fetched water, some people boiled medicine, and soon the yard was brightly lit.

As soon as Sun's mother heard the news that Gu Qingqing had returned, she rushed over.

"Qingqing, my good daughter-in-law has suffered so much. Look at her delicate skin and tender flesh, how could she endure such severe punishment! The emperor is so cruel!" Mother Sun said while wiping her tears.

"Mother, please be careful with your words!" Sun Chongming said with a serious face, "You are not allowed to discuss royal affairs!"

Mother Sun curled her lips and stopped talking, but Gu Qingqing directed her criticism at Gu Wanying.

In that situation, if Gu Wanying had asked to let her go, would she still have to endure this punishment? Wasn't this Gu Wanying's fault?

Days passed, and in the blink of an eye it was the Mid-Autumn Festival, which also happened to be the Queen's birthday.

Gu Qingqing's injuries had long since healed. She disguised herself as Sun Chongming's personal maid and followed him into the palace to attend the banquet.

The reason she dressed up as a maid was because Gu Qingqing was deprived of the qualification to enter the palace, so she came up with this idea.

And she had a reason to go.

Sun Chongming just thought that she had thought it through and wanted to apologize to Gu Wanying, so he agreed to her.

On the full moon night of August 15th, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the emperor and empress arrived late in luxurious formal attire.

After the director of the Imperial Observatory finished chanting the moon blessing words, all the ministers and their families came to pay their respects and kowtow to congratulate the Queen on the Mid-Autumn Festival and her birthday.

Gu Wanying came in gracefully, and little Jingyan was held by Yuetao. He was two months old now, and it was the time when he was most sleepy. He was sleeping with his eyes closed.

Everyone's eyes suddenly fell on Gu Wanying, with some showing amazement, some showing wonder, and some showing envy. Only Gu Qingqing looked at her with resentment in her eyes.

Gu Wanying immediately caught the hostility in that look. Although Gu Qingqing immediately lowered her head, Gu Wanying still noticed her.

The emperor solemnly introduced the young prince Zhao Jingyan to everyone, and his words hinted at making Jingyan the crown prince.

Prime Minister Gu thought a lot and planned that when Jingyan became the crown prince, it would be the day for him to resign from his official position and retire.

Gu Wanying was surprised, and hurriedly held little Jingyan and kowtowed to the emperor solemnly.

The emperor was reluctant to let Gu Wanying kneel down, and quickly pulled her up, with such doting in his eyes that it almost drowned her.

The queen on the side was so angry that she wanted to bite her tongue, but she had to pretend to smile magnanimously.

Gu Wanying felt a little sorry for the queen.

There was singing and dancing during the banquet, which made Gu Wanying drowsy. She ate mooncakes and drank grape wine. It was time for Xiao Jingyan to go to bed.

The emperor naturally agreed to her request and wanted to accompany her back, but was stopped by Gu Wanying.

"Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Empress' birthday. Your Majesty, please spend some time with the Empress. I don't mind spending one more day." Gu Wanying smiled in her beautiful eyes and gently hooked the Emperor's little finger where no one could see.

The emperor understood and praised Gu Wanying for her generosity. However, these words were like an invisible knife stabbing into the queen's heart, but she still pretended to be magnanimous.

On the way back, candles were lit on both sides. Occasionally, a few fireflies flew by, bringing a little yellowish light, adding a bit of wildness to the quiet night.

"The Emperor loves His Majesty so much that he wants to make our little prince the crown prince!" Yue Tao was so happy that she walked a little more briskly.

"Don't get carried away. As long as the decree of enthronement is not issued, we can't be complacent." Feicui said in a low voice.

Gu Wanying nodded in agreement. Feicui's personality is much calmer than Yuetao's, and she considers many things very carefully. Such a girl is worth cultivating.

When they reached the edge of the imperial garden, they heard rustling sounds in the bushes. They were all still frightened by the poisonous insect incident, and at this time they were taking a 120% chance.

"Who's there!" Yue Tao shouted, "Don't hide, or I'll call for help!"

"Don't shout, it's me!" Gu Qingqing's voice came anxiously, and then there was a noise in the grass and a person walked out.

It was Gu Qingqing dressed as a maid.

"Mrs. Sun, what are you doing here?" Feicui looked at Gu Qingqing warily.

She would never forget the hatred for the poisonous insect, so she would definitely not give Gu Qingqing a good face at this moment.

Gu Qingqing didn't answer her. Instead, she knelt down in front of Gu Wanying and said, "Sister, I know I was wrong before. Can you give me a chance to make amends?"

Gu Wanying never dreamed that Gu Qingqing, who had always been arrogant and hostile to her, would now kowtow to her so obediently. Did the sun rise from the west?

Gu Wanying wanted to know what she was going to do, so she went along with her. "Okay, after all, you and I are blood relatives. It's a great honor to admit your mistakes and correct them. We are still good sisters."

Gu Wanying's smile under the moonlight was gentle and beautiful without any aggression.

Gu Qingqing concealed the ecstasy in her eyes, stood up excitedly and held Gu Wanying's hand.

"I have something to say to my sister, you wait here." Gu Qingqing instructed Feicui.

Feicui originally wanted to ignore it, but after receiving Gu Wanying's gaze, she responded obediently.

Gu Qingqing herself didn't expect things to go so smoothly, so she pulled Gu Wanying to the side.

Gu Qingqing talked about many interesting things from her childhood, and she picked out some scenes where she did bad things and Gu Wanying took the blame. It was not known whether it was intentional or not.

Gu Wanying responded with a few perfunctory words. Perhaps Gu Qingqing's patience had reached its limit. She stopped and turned to face Gu Wanying.

"Sister, you are really kind. I am really lucky to be your sister." Gu Qingqing raised a meaningful smile at the corner of her lips and looked at Gu Wanying steadily.

The water surface shimmered in the moonlight, and occasionally a few fish swam by, creating ripples.

"It's just that you are too kind and can't tell the difference between good and bad." After the last word fell, Gu Qingqing suddenly stretched out her hands and pushed Gu Wanying into the lake.
