Chapter 49 Mud Frog
Fu Jingyou spoke in a low, unnatural tone.
"If you don't have anything else to do, would you like to eat together?"
Do you want to eat together?
Of course!
The only thing that could improve the food during this period was the eggs that Lu Miao exchanged with the team members, and he was almost fed up with them.
Mud frog sounds like a frog, maybe it's a bullfrog or something!
Thinking of the dry pot bullfrog and stir-fried bullfrog he had eaten before, the tender and smooth texture and rich and fragrant sauce, Lu Miao's mouth almost flowed out, and he nodded without restraint:
"Of course we have to eat together! Fu Jingyou, you are not allowed to eat alone behind my back!"
Fu Jingyou exhaled lightly, nodded and smiled barely audible.
Lu Miao turned around and glanced in the direction of the educated youth point. "You go first, I'll come later."
Fu Jingyou nodded, and this time he didn't hesitate. After saying yes to Lu Miao, he turned around and walked towards the pond.
Lu Miao watched him walk for a distance before turning around and walking back.
Lu Miao returned to the educated youth center and hastily packed up the various seasonings he had bought earlier. He left some of each at the educated youth center and repackaged most of the rest, preparing to take them to Fu Jingyou.
In fact, he had wanted to give it to Fu Jingyou just now, but there were many people at the educated youth site today, and he was afraid that other people would see it and spread the word, so Lu Miao temporarily gave up the idea.
Now that Fu Jingyou had left, she could take a shortcut and not worry about being seen.
Lu Miao packed up his things and walked out.
Ren Bingxin and the others saw what she was carrying and knew that she was going to the team to discuss sharing meals with someone. Apart from telling her to be cautious and not to be too anxious to be fooled, they didn't say anything else.
However, Chen Miaomiao, seeing Lu Miao walking out with a big bag of things, her eyes flickered, and she took a few steps towards the door, subconsciously wanting to follow Lu Miao.
But before he stepped over the threshold, someone suddenly grabbed his left hand.
Chen Miaomiao turned around and saw that it was Gu Ying. She twitched her lips, instantly putting away her impatience, and asked with a weak smile:
"What's wrong, Gu Ying?"
Gu Ying smiled gently and shook her head, "It's okay."
Pulling Chen Miaomiao to sit down, Gu Ying smiled and called the girls to the table, "You're new here, so you don't know much about this place. Our production team is surrounded by hills of all sizes. Every year from June to September, when it rains, a lot of mushrooms appear in the mountains."
Gu Ying asked everyone, "It rained for half the night last night. Today the temperature is just right and the rain isn't heavy. I was thinking of going to the mountains to take a look. Do you want to come with me?"
Before the new girls could react and speak, Yang Xiaojing was the first to raise her hand excitedly, "Go! I'm going anyway!"
The vegetables in the vegetable garden in front of the door have not grown yet. For daily meals, apart from eating potatoes and sweet potatoes, we rely on the cabbages sent by a few kind-hearted aunts and sisters-in-law in the team.
Although they are all food, you can't resist eating them every day.
If I'm lucky enough to pick up a few mushrooms this time, it will temporarily improve our diet.
Yang Xiaojing livened up the atmosphere. Geng Xiaoyun and Ren Bingxin thought that if they could pick up some mushrooms, it would be an extra meal for them, so they nodded and said they wanted to go.
They were all going, and Chen Miaomiao wanted to say no, but she was afraid she wouldn't fit in. With no other choice, she had to temporarily put her thoughts aside and followed Gu Ying and the others, packing up and heading into the mountains together...
On the other side, Lu Miao took the bamboo forest path to the Fu family and still went through the back door.
Fu Jingyou opened the door for her. As soon as Lu Miao entered the backyard, she found something different.
The Fu family's backyard is very large. The last time I came here, except for the well in the corner which was clean, the rest of the ground was covered with scattered leaves, and there was a palm-sized weed every few steps. It was basically in a state of abandonment.
But this time it was obviously different. The dead branches, leaves and weeds were all cleaned up, and a flat path made of broken bricks and tiles was made from the kitchen door to the back door.
Under the wall not far from the well, Fu Jingyou even cultivated two small vegetable plots, planted onions and garlic, and there were also a dozen seedlings that Lu Miao did not recognize.
"Fu Jingyou, so you've been busy with this lately!" Lu Miao was so surprised that he couldn't help but move over to the vegetable patch and asked, "What kind of seedling is this?"
Fu Jingyou stood behind her and replied calmly, "Tomatoes, the same kind of tomatoes you ate last time."
"Really? What about this?"
“That’s chili pepper.”
The tomato seedlings were obtained from Chen Guifen. Because Lu Miao said they were delicious last time, Fu Jingyou subconsciously remembered it.
As for the pepper seedlings, Fu Jingyou took some effort and went to several places before he got a few defective seedlings.
Lu Miao rested his hands on his knees, holding his chin with a smile, "When will these seedlings grow into tomatoes and peppers?"
Just two days after planting the seedlings, she was already looking forward to the harvest.
"It's just been planted. We have to wait at least a month and a half." Fu Jingyou leaned forward slightly and extended a hand to her, "Don't be impatient."
"I'm looking forward to it!"
Lu Miao pouted, took Fu Jingyou's hand and was pulled up by him.
I don't know when she developed this habit, but she always makes some playful micro-expressions and small movements without realizing it.
The basket containing mud frogs was hung on the door knocker of the kitchen's back door. The mouth of the basket was sealed with a bamboo cover by Fu Jingyou. Lu Miao went into the house to put the things down, then went back to the door and bent down to take a look.
There are gaps in the walls of the bamboo basket, and you can vaguely see what's inside.
There are about seven or eight frogs. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but they are quite big.
Most of the frogs have earthy brown markings on their bodies, which at first glance look a bit like the markings on a tiger.
Lu Miao vaguely remembered that when he was in school, his teacher once mentioned that there was a kind of frog called tiger-striped frog and frog.
The poem "In the fragrance of rice flowers we speak of a good harvest, and listen to the croaking of frogs" is talking about this.
This tiger-striped frog is most likely the mud frog that Fu Jingyou mentioned.
In addition to the tiger-striped frog, there were two larger ones in the basket.
The skin on their heads is bluish, while the rest of their bodies are dark green. There are also some bumps on their backs. They are bullfrogs.
The bullfrogs raised in later generations are somewhat slow, while the wild ones are more flexible.
Lu Miao leaned closer to the basket and saw that the tiger-striped frog inside was still kicking and jumping, but the eyes of the two bullfrogs revealed clear stupidity and they looked extremely dull.
At that time, there was no concept of raising frogs. These two bullfrogs must have been injured when they were caught, so they didn't want to move.
"Fu Jingyou, it must have taken you quite a bit of effort to catch them, right?"
"No. They're hard to find normally. When it rains, water accumulates in the cracks between the bricks and the soil, so they can't stay there. It's easier to catch them." Fu Jingyou took off the basket. "I'll go clean it up. You sit here for a while."
Lu Miao nodded.
Fu Jingyou went to the well to clean up the mud frogs. Lu Miao looked around and moved a small stool from under the table and placed it by the door.
