Chapter 6 The Young Lady
Happy times are always short. The next morning, Lu Miao was woken up by someone.
Gu Ying reminded her anxiously:
"I have to go to work now, hurry up! It will be very busy at noon, you need to go to the team to collect the advance rations before work starts!"
It was all because we chatted too late last night that Gu Ying got up late today.
After hurriedly combing her hair, she turned around and saw Lu Miao still asleep with a frown on his face. Gu Ying broke into tears:
"Lu Miao!"
Lu Miao shuddered, and her sleepiness immediately disappeared. She sat up slowly and said unhappily:
"Why are you in such a hurry? If you didn't get it this morning, wouldn't it be the same if you waited until the captain was done with his work at noon to get it?"
Gu Ying took the toothbrush and towel she had packed last night and stuffed them into her hands, pushing her out. "This won't do. You just got here, you need to leave a good impression on the captain."
If he is not even active in collecting rations, what else can be expected from this person?
Lu Miao let out a breath and had to patiently go to wash up. When he came back, he was depressed again because of combing his hair.
She didn't have a comb, so she borrowed it from Ren Bingxin temporarily.
She can do a ponytail, various buns and princess hairstyles, but braiding a pigtail is really difficult for her.
When Ren Bingxin was braiding her hair, Lu Miao watched carefully and thought it was quite simple at the time. But when it was his turn, it seemed as if his hand had its own ideas and he just couldn't get it right.
After a long time of trouble, the male educated youth outside couldn't wait to leave. Not only was Lu Miao's pigtail not tied properly, but the ponytail she had originally combed also had bulges here and there.
Lu Miao slapped the comb on Ren Bingxin's bed, kicked off his shoes and lay back on the bed, "I'm not going!"
Ren Bingxin was so angry that she almost laughed. She coaxed and dragged her out of the bed, "My dear lady, let me comb your hair. I'm done combing it for you!"
Lu Miao's slender eyebrows were squeezed together, and he puffed his lips and defended proudly:
"It's not that I don't know how. I used to comb my hair in front of a mirror, but there's no mirror here..."
Ren Bingxin casually echoed:
"I understand, I understand. Okay, put on your shoes and go, we'll be behind the group soon."
Lu Miao grabbed the braid from behind in disbelief, "So fast!"
"Really?" Ren Bingxin took her arm and walked out, taking care of her self-esteem very considerately. "Come back later and practice. You're so smart, you can do it even without a mirror."
"Of course."
Lu Miao responded confidently. She was no worse than others and could definitely do what others could do.
Lu Miao straightened his back and immediately felt full of energy.
We went to the team leader's house to collect advance rations. Both male and female educated youth were allocated according to adult rations. Male educated youth received 30 kilograms per month, while female educated youth received 28 kilograms, all of which were coarse grains.
If you choose fresh whole grains, the exchange ratio with dry whole grains is 3:1.
If you choose fine grains, the exchange ratio with dry coarse grains is 1:3.
Fresh coarse grains include potatoes and sweet potatoes, while dry coarse grains include corn kernels, sorghum rice, and dried sweet potato chips.
There is only one kind of refined grain, and that is brown rice.
The advance rations are collected on site, and the selection is made on site.
Lu Miao looked around. She probably had never eaten sorghum rice before, and she didn't really want to try it, so she just picked the ones she knew and asked for some sweet potatoes, potatoes, and corn kernels.
Brown rice looked really rough and didn't look like a fine grain at all, but she still ordered a few pounds.
The total weight of all the things was more than twenty kilograms. Lu Miao didn't take any bags to carry the things. The captain's wife Chen Guifen was very kind and lent him a basket and rice bag.
He tried to lift the basket and was able to do so. However, it took more than ten minutes to walk from the captain's home to the educated youth site. As the sun gradually rose, Lu Miao didn't want to work himself up and sweat.
Looking around, I saw that everyone else was busy and had big pockets in front of them, so I probably couldn't rely on them.
Lu Miao frowned in anger and suddenly noticed Fu Xiaoliu who was helping He Hongjin hold the weight.
Her eyes lit up and she waved enthusiastically, "Comrade Fu Xiaoliu, this way! This way!"
Fu Xiaoliu shook his head and looked around before noticing the person in the shadow at the gate of the yard.
The little girl has bright eyebrows and eyes that sparkle as if there are stars hidden in them.
He Hongjin was right next to him, so Fu Xiaoliu didn't dare to go forward rashly.
It was Chen Guifen who reacted first and pushed him and said:
"What's wrong with you, kid? Comrade Educated Youth is calling you, why don't you go over and see if there's anything you can help with?"
Fu Jingyou walked up to Lu Miao and asked in a muffled voice:
"What?"
Lu Miao bared her small white teeth, her smile more dazzling than pearls. She pointed at the rice bags and baskets on the ground and said rudely, "I can't carry them. Can you help me carry them back?"
Fu Jingyou glanced down and saw the thing on the ground. He really felt it was too shameful to look at it.
Can't you even carry such a small thing?
This girl is really very delicate.
He didn't speak for a long time, and Lu Miao stamped his feet and asked:
"Is that okay?"
It's easy for a young man and a girl to be alone together to be criticized. Fu Jingyou was silent for a moment, moved Lu Miao's things to the side, and said in a low voice:
"Wait until they have finished receiving them together."
Lu Miao instantly regained his bright smile and agreed immediately, "Okay!"
Just wait a while, as long as someone can help her with the work!
On the way back, the educated youth looked back frequently.
Lu Miao was completely unaware of this. She followed Fu Jingyou at the very end, walking slowly as if she was on a sightseeing tour.
Seeing fellow villagers wearing straw hats bending over to plant rice in the paddy fields in the distance, she curiously asked Fu Jingyou:
"Where did they buy their hats?"
“They sell it at the supply and marketing cooperatives, and those who are good at handcrafting usually make it themselves.”
"Oh." Lu Miao nodded and asked again:
"When do the educated youth usually have their holidays?"
Fu Jingyou replied coldly:
"have no idea."
Lu Miao pulled a piece of dogtail grass and played with it in his hand. After a moment of silence, he asked:
"Then can you make it up?"
Fu Jingyou didn't take precautions and blurted out "yes". Vaguely aware of Lu Miao's thoughts, he added in time: "No."
Lu Miao raised her eyebrows, "Do you know how to do it or not?"
Fu Jingyou was silent.
Is it too late to say no now?
The sun in the countryside is so strong, and it will be even stronger in June. It is unknown when the educated youth camp will have a holiday, and there is no sunscreen on hand. Lu Miao does not want to get tanned.
She was thinking about paying Fu Jingyou to weave a hat for her, but before she could even open her mouth, she was interrupted:
“Miaomiao!”
Lu Miao turned slightly, and Chen Miaomiao ran towards them in the opposite direction along the ridge of the field with rations in her pocket.
When she ran closer, Chen Miaomiao couldn't stop panting, "Miao, Miaomiao..."
"what?"
Lu Miao frowned in disdain, pouting her red lips unhappily, as proud as a peacock, "Who told you to call me Miaomiao? It's so disgusting."
Chen Miaomiao's face froze. "Lu Miao, Xie Zhiqing said he wants to see you. He's waiting for you out front now. Go quickly!"
