Chapter 29 Encountering an Old Acquaintance on the Street

Cui Yulu bought some snacks at the shop to share with Abu and Niu Niu when she got back.

It was already afternoon, and the number of pedestrians on the street gradually decreased. At this time, some stalls began to sell vegetables and fruits at low prices.

The vegetables on the stalls are all grown by local farmers themselves. They bring the vegetables to the market to sell for some money to supplement their household income, since they can't finish them all at home.

Cui Yulu saw an old lady with her grandson at a stall. Both of them were wearing somewhat worn clothes, but they were very clean.

The little grandson was squatting next to his grandmother, munching on a hard cornbread, but the little guy's eyes were very bright.

Suddenly, the old woman clutched her chest, her face turned extremely pale, and she quickly collapsed to the ground.

The little boy was terrified and quickly put down the pancake in his hand to check on his grandmother's condition.

However, he was too young and too weak to lift his grandmother, so he could only helplessly call out for her.

However, the elderly man did not react at all.

Upon seeing this, Cui Yulu rushed over. The old man's fainting was clearly caused by palpitations and he needed acupuncture immediately.

"Little brother, don't cry. Put Grandma down and I'll give her acupuncture."

Seeing that the girl was only fourteen or fifteen years old, most of the people around her were against it.

"Chen Yuan, hurry up and go to East Street to find Doctor Hu. Don't trust this little girl. Go now."

"Yes, we mustn't delay this poor child."

The little boy named Chen Yuan looked at Cui Yulu, then at the people around him. He wanted to get up but didn't dare to. He didn't have any money to give the doctor, so the doctor certainly wouldn't come.

"Why aren't you moving, kid? Do you want your grandma to die?"

"Yeah, let's hurry up."

Cui Yulu couldn't wait that long, so she quickly took out silver needles from her cloth bag and prepared to perform acupuncture.

Suddenly, a pair of large hands stopped her: "You little brat, are you lying to people again?"

Cui Yulu looked up and saw that it was Lü Silong from before. It was a case of enemies meeting again and their eyes turning red with hatred.

"Don't believe her, everyone. She's a liar who only preys on children."

As he spoke, he turned his head and pointed at Chen Yuan, continuing, "She will use silver needles to pretend to save your grandmother, then let your grandmother die, and you will be grateful to her, follow her, and finally be sold by her. She gains both fame and money."

Everyone was unhappy to hear this and started to drive Cui Yulu away.

When Han Yu'an saw his wife being bullied, he quickly stepped forward and spread his arms to block those people.

“Chen Yuan, you have to believe me. Your grandmother’s condition is critical. I have to administer acupuncture immediately, or she really won’t survive.”

Chen Yuan was only a five-year-old child, and for a moment he was at a loss, looking at her in a panic, and then at the crowd.

"Young lady, you'd better put away your hypocritical act and leave while everyone is still rational, or you'll suffer the consequences if a fight breaks out."

"Don't believe him, he's a fraud, he's the one who's fooling children."

Abu confronted Lü Silong, his childish voice ringing out, and everyone turned to look at Abu.

How can you take the words of a mere beggar seriously?

"Everyone, hurry up and chase them away, or this child will be tricked away too."

The crowd began to stir again, trying to drive Cui Yulu away. Liu Meie and Han Chunying, seeing that the two of them were no match for the crowd, also came over to help.

As more and more people came and went, the market's normal order was soon disrupted.

Suddenly, a clear, cold male voice rang out from behind the crowd: "Who is causing trouble here?"

A group of constables rushed over and dispersed the people.

"Please treat her quickly, young lady."

The speaker was none other than Lin Yun from before.

Cui Yulu didn't dare to delay for a moment. She took out a silver needle and inserted it obliquely into the old man's Neiguan acupoint. Then she removed the old man's shoes and socks and found the Gongsun acupoint, inserting it straight for one inch. She then slowly inserted the needles into the old man's Juque and Guanyuan acupoints respectively.

After the procedure, Cui Yulu felt a slight sweat on her forehead, indicating that her body was still somewhat weak, as acupuncture was a physically and mentally taxing activity.

Han Yu'an noticed that his wife had sweat on her forehead, so he quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe it away for her.

Cui Yulu flashed him a wide, eight-toothed smile, and Han Yu'an stood contentedly beside her.

"Thank you for your help, Young Master Lin."

"It's only right, mainly because the young lady has the qualifications to ask me for help."

After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, the old man finally woke up and looked at his grandson Chen Yuan with loving eyes.

I just barely escaped death; poor little grandson, no one to take care of him.

"Thank you for saving me, sir."

When Chen Yuan saw that his grandmother had woken up, he quickly knelt down before Cui Yulu.

The old lady knew that the young girl in front of her had saved her, and she was about to get up and kneel down, but Cui Yulu stopped her.

"Please, sir, you mustn't do that. It was just a small favor for me."

The old man just blinked, tears streaming down his face, but he made no sound.

“My grandma can’t speak, she’s thanking you.”

Cui Yulu felt that the grandmother and grandson were too pitiful.

When the onlookers saw that the old woman had woken up, they were all happy for the grandmother and granddaughter, completely forgetting the unpleasantness that had just occurred.

Seeing this, Lü Silong tried to slip away, but Lin Yun grabbed him by the back of the neck.

"We've been looking for you for a long time. I didn't expect to run into you here. Come with us."

After saying that, they took him away without further ado.

"Little brother, how many coins would you charge if you bought all these vegetables?"

Cui Yulu looked at the celery, chives, and a few bok choy on the ground, which looked quite fresh.

"These are for you. We have no payment for the consultation, so we can only repay you with these dishes. Please don't find them too offensive, sister."
