Chapter 31 Abu's Departure and Stay

The journey home was unusually fast.

Liu Meie kept her eyes on Abu the whole way. This Cui Yulu was really something. She brought a child back without even discussing it with him. Was she out of her mind?

Therefore, she never gave Abu a friendly look, and Abu was always very awkward when they got home.

Although Abu is only five years old, he has developed the ability to read people's expressions after wandering the streets for so long.

He could tell at a glance who treated him well and who didn't like him in this family.

"You make decisions without consulting everyone. This is a living, breathing person, not a cat or dog. You have a responsibility to take care of him."

Once home, Liu Meie kept nagging.

After all, everyone is struggling financially. We were lucky to sell some money, but after today's expenses, there's not much left. And we still have to support a child; it's just wishful thinking.

“Abu, right? You should go back to where you came from. You see, we’re having a hard time too, we can’t support you at all.”

Abu looked at her timidly, his eyes quickly filling with tears.

"Aunt, please don't send me away. I can do any kind of work, and I can eat very little. Please let me stay."

As Abu spoke, he knelt down and kowtowed repeatedly.

"Oh dear, it's not about how much you eat, it's about how difficult things are for our family right now, we can't afford to support you."

After Liu Meie finished speaking, she glared fiercely at Cui Yulu.

"You silly girl, you're so clueless. Tell me what you've done all day. You've been so impressive, saving people and recruiting followers. Tomorrow I'll see if you can take in all the homeless people."

Grandma Han listened to their conversation in silence. Supporting another person would indeed put some pressure on the family, but she also knew that Cui Yulu was kind-hearted, and that was one of the things she valued about the girl.

"Yulu, have you figured out how to take care of him?"

Liu Meie is right about one thing: this isn't about feeding a kitten or puppy; it's about feeding a living, breathing person.

"Grandma, I can support him. Don't worry, I have a way."

"Alright, Grandma believes you, so stay then."

Liu Meie knew that the old lady would definitely listen to Cui Yulu. The old lady must have been bewitched, otherwise why would she listen to a young girl?

“Mother, you’re confused. She’s just a little girl who needs to be supported by the family. How can we possibly support a five-year-old child? In the end, it will only be a burden on Daping, Hanhu, and Hanbao.”

“Abu can work too, Grandma, please let me stay.”

The little girl looked up at Grandma Han with her dusty face, a sight that tugged at the heartstrings.

"Alright, stay."

Grandma Han could tell from Abu's appearance that he was clever, and he would be a good companion for Niu Niu.

"Mother, you..."

Grandma Han slowly raised the fire poker, and Liu Meie immediately changed her tune.

"Let me check that meat so the dog doesn't steal it."

Thinking to myself, this family is really something, no wonder they've been bullied by the second wife for so long.

"Sister, can I stay?"

"Yes, this will be your home from now on."

Abu shed tears of joy, for from that moment on, he too was a child with a home.

He is no longer that homeless little beggar.

"Let's go, help Grandma wash her face, and change her clothes while we're at it."

Abu's clothes were tattered and barely covered his private parts.

"Grandma, I'm going to boil some water and give An Ye a bath while I'm at it."

Han Yu'an had been fighting with Niu Niu for the pastries, and his face still had osmanthus sugar residue on it. But when he saw Abu stay behind, he quickly took a piece of osmanthus cake for him.

"Little brother, eat it, it's delicious."

Cui Yulu went out with a happy smile, just as her sister-in-law Cao Qiaoniu was busy in the kitchen.

"Sister-in-law, I've gotten your medicine, and this donkey-hide gelatin is for you too."

Cui Yulu handed her a large bag of herbs and donkey-hide gelatin. Cao Qiaoniu had never been treated with such care before, and she was deeply moved.

This isn't medicine; it's overflowing with love.

This was the first time Cao Qiaoniu had been cared for and thought of like this, and she felt warm inside, growing even more fond of Cui Yulu.

"Hurry up and put it away. Remember to eat it. I'll show you again after you finish eating. I guarantee you'll have twins next year."

"You silly girl, you always tease me. As long as I can give birth, that's fine. It's not that I'm hoping for twins."

Cao Qiaoniu was a little scared. If she took the medicine and her stomach didn't move, she would probably get scolded by her mother again.

"Don't worry, sister-in-law. With me here, I guarantee you can have children, as many as you want."

While chatting with her, Cui Yulu quickly washed the pot and boiled water.

We're going to give them a bath and clean up the wastewater while we're at it.

"I'll come over and help you in a bit, take your time."

"Yes, I know."

Although he said that, his hands never stopped moving.

The old lady checked the things they had bought; they had bought quite a lot this time, including pork.

It seems they made quite a bit of money selling it.

"Girls, how much stuff did you buy?"

Liu Meie had been observing from the side, and when she heard them talking about the silver, she quickly came out of the west room to help.

“It’s true, Cui girl, I’ve calculated that we made a total of twenty-eight taels of silver. You gave me three taels halfway through, and I paid you two taels for these things. How much silver do you have left?”

"Look at you, with that money-grubbing look on your face. With so much stuff here, do you think Yulu would try to steal your money?"
