In Chapter 15, the village chief comes to mediate.

Old Lizheng, with a slightly hunched posture, walked into the courtyard with his hands behind his back, followed by the two brothers, Han Daping and Han Hu and Han Bao.

When Cao Jinfang saw the village head arrive, she became even more unruly and threw a tantrum.

The village head had some connection with Cao Jinfang's husband, Han Shiren. In the past, when their two families fought, the village head would always side with the second branch of the family more.

Because of this, the second branch of the family became increasingly arrogant in the village, completely disregarding the first branch.

However, she miscalculated this time. The village head had just accepted the carp that Liu Xiuying had sent over. Originally, the village head was unwilling to accept it, but he couldn't resist his grandson's craving.

His daughter-in-law cooked fish for dinner, and his grandson ate until his belly was round and full, which made him happy.

In addition, there is work to be done in the village tomorrow, and the entire eldest branch of the Han family will participate, but no one from the second branch will participate. Their so-called support for their work is just lip service.

"You woman, you never have a moment's peace. You're always causing trouble and making a scene. Now get back home."

At this moment, the village head's expression was not very friendly either. He walked up to her, flicked his sleeve, snorted, and then stopped talking.

"Village head, you have to stand up for us! Look, their family beat my grandson so badly he can't even get up. What are we going to do?"

"Anyway, you won't be participating in the village's irrigation ditch digging work tomorrow, so it's good for you to rest at home."

Everyone was taken aback by the village head's words, and then burst into laughter.

I never expected you, village head, to be so vengeful.

“Village head, that’s not how it works. There are three of us lying on the kang (heated brick bed) in our house, and now two more have fallen ill. How are we supposed to survive?”

Cao Jinfang started throwing a tantrum, her aim being to get compensation, ideally all the dried fish for herself.

"You'd better get up quickly, or you won't be able to get up."

Cao Jinfang didn't expect Cui Yulu to start talking nonsense again, still cursing herself that she wouldn't be able to stand up. Her legs were so good, how could she not be able to stand up?

Isn't this blatantly cursing oneself?

"Village head, listen to what a human being says! I'm their second mistress, aren't I? How can I be cursed like this?"

The village head glanced at the serious-looking Cui Yulu and knew in his heart that this was the wife that Liu Xiuying had bought with money to bring good luck. She was quite pretty, but she looked a bit crazy and was probably mentally unwell.

He didn't think of arguing with her, after all, she was still a child, only fourteen or fifteen years old this year, a few years younger than his own third daughter.

"I didn't mean to curse you, I'm just telling you the truth, have you been experiencing intermittent numbness in your right leg lately?"

No one had taken her words to heart at first, but the girl kept talking.

"Yulu, stop talking. You should go back to your room with Yu'an and rest. Grandma will take care of things here."

Everyone probably thought she was talking nonsense, but Cao Qiaoniu, who was at the back of the crowd, thought she was telling the truth.

"Grandma, you don't believe me? She's really going to be paralyzed."

Liu Xiuying looked at Cui Yulu with heartache. How could such a good child suddenly become mentally unstable and talk nonsense? But since she had married into the Han family, as long as she was alive, she would not mistreat the child.

Cao Jinfang, however, showed a hint of surprise. She hadn't paid attention to it before, but upon reflection, she realized that her right leg had indeed been slightly numb for the past few days. She had only thought it was because she wasn't used to the cold weather and hadn't taken it seriously.

Now that she's heard her say that, she's become afraid.

"Now that you've identified the symptoms, do you know how to treat them?"

Han Sen and Han Lin, who were lying on the ground groaning, looked up at their grandmother. What was going on? They had been lying there for half a day, and no one cared about them. Instead, they had to go to the hospital.

"Grandma, we're still in pain."

"Shut up, you brat."

At this moment, Cao Jinfang felt her legs were getting more and more painful, and she had no mind to care about the life or death of her two grandsons.

Seeing that this family was clearly trying to extort money, the village head coughed and said, "Alright, second son's family, it's getting late, you should go back now. We can talk about it tomorrow. Luckily, Yulu is here, she can come anytime."

Li Zheng received Liu Xiuying's signal. She had inquired about it many times and thought that her granddaughter-in-law had no medical skills and was definitely bluffing. Unexpectedly, she had hit the nail on the head and hit Cao Jinfang's sore spot.

"Village head, wouldn't it be very embarrassing for us to just leave like this?"

She had promised her great-grandchildren that she would get them fish to eat, so it would be very embarrassing if she didn't bring them back.

"That's right, Grandpa Village Head, we both fell to the ground, we should get some compensation, right?"

The two brothers kept glancing at the dried fish that had just been drying under the eaves, giving it a frantic hint.

Liu Xiuying gestured to Han Daping to quickly pick out three strips and hand them to them.

"Grandma, we caught these ourselves. If you want to eat fish, can't you catch them yourself?"

After watching the commotion for a while, Han Chunying felt a pang of sadness as she watched the fish she had worked so hard to catch being sent away.

However, this time Cui Yulu managed to avoid attracting lightning to strike their entire family, thus saving her own fish from being harmed.

"You rude girl! We're your cousins, and your sister-in-law even beat us up. Are you saying we can't even have three fish with you?"

"Hmph, I see you're just not good enough. You wanted to show off here, but my sister-in-law slapped you in the face. Aren't you ashamed of your shameless behavior as grown men?"

The Han brothers blushed immediately after being rebuked like that.

"We were just being lenient with her. It wouldn't look good for two men to bully a woman if word got out."
