Chapter 596 Becoming an Apprentice (2)

After becoming an apprentice, An Moxue began her formal studies. Every day, besides studying, she would occasionally go to the newly purchased yard to check on the progress of the house renovation, sometimes go out for a meal with friends, or go out to play with Wu Sicheng.

On this day, An Moxue had just parted ways with Wu Sicheng when she was stopped by a driver in a car at the alley entrance.

"Comrade, my wife wants to talk to you about something." The driver pointed to the car next to him.

"Who is your wife?" An Moxue's eyes flashed with interest, but the driver didn't notice.

"You'll see once you get in the car." His words and actions left no room for refusal.

"Oh! Okay!" An Moxue strolled towards the car, but instead of driving, she looked at the driver.

He jogged over and opened the car door for her.

An Moxue got into the car and sized up the woman inside. Hmm, a somewhat mean-spirited noblewoman.

The noble lady remained silent, as did An Moxue; they simply sat there quietly.

Finally, the lady couldn't hold back any longer and spoke first: "Comrade An Moxue, right?"

When she spoke, An Moxue silently turned on the recorder and asked, "Yes, it's me."

And then there was no next sentence.

The noblewoman looked at her and saw that she neither spoke nor asked. Such a young woman had no curiosity at all. Such a mild-mannered nature was not pleasing. Why don't you ask me who I am?

Or you can ask me why I came to see you!

Well, that's great. You can't get a word out of him. In what way does he compare to his own daughter?

Family background?

She is an orphan.

character?

Dull and unappealing.

appearance?

She's a vixen, but she certainly has the ability to attract men.

Bah! What kind of skill is it to climb the ladder by relying on your looks and body?

Men should find wives who are of equal social standing, as this will be beneficial to their careers.

However, they seem to have forgotten that it was their Li family that insisted on climbing up to the Wu family.

The noblewoman spoke with an arrogant expression, "Do you know why I've come to see you?"

"I don't know." And then there was no follow-up sentence.

The lady of the house silently reassured herself, "Don't get angry. She won't ask. Just tell her what you want to say."

After a while, she calmed herself down and said, "I'm sure you can guess why I came to see you."

An Moxue replied calmly, "I don't know you, how could I possibly guess why you're looking for me!"

"You know Wu Sicheng, so you know now, right?"

"Oh! Are you Wu Sicheng's mother?" An Moxue sized her up, saying very seriously, "Could you be Wu Sicheng's mother? No way! He told me his mother is an absolute beauty. You—" She looked the wealthy woman up and down again, criticizing her, "You don't look like it! Your appearance isn't even considered conventionally beautiful, let alone at the level of a beauty. You're not even close! Besides, I don't see any resemblance between you and Wu Sicheng at all, especially those crow's feet around your eyes, they could trap flies. You look so cunning and calculating, you're definitely not a good person!"

"You—" The noblewoman pointed at An Moxue angrily, and after a long while, she said with a forced smile, "Who I am is not important. What is important is Wu Sicheng. Do you know his family background?"

This time, An Moxue readily nodded and said, "I know a little."

The noblewoman scoffed, "That's good! As an orphan, you should know your place and not covet someone who doesn't belong to you."

"You mean Wu Sicheng, someone you shouldn't even think about? Then is your daughter, Li Jingjing, acceptable?"

"You?" The noblewoman was surprised and doubtful; this vixen had actually guessed it.

"Hmph! So what if it is? Our two families are well-matched. You'd better know your place, back out, and preferably disappear from Kyoto. Never come back, or else..." The last two words were spoken through gritted teeth, and the threat in them was clear to everyone.

An Moxue spoke calmly, "When you came to see me, were you representing you and Li Jingjing, your family, or the Li family, including Commander Li?" It was as if she were asking someone else's business, not her own, her tone unusually calm.

The noblewoman scoffed, "What's the difference?"

"Of course there are. If you represent the Li family, including Commander Li, I'll have to consider it. If it's just you and your daughter, then bring it on."

"What if I said I represented the Li family? You'd better not refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit. In a city as big as the capital, it's not unusual for one or two people to disappear, don't you think?"

Another threat. An Moxue scoffed. If you had offered a large sum of money, I might have respected you a little more. But now, are you kidding me?

An Moxue replied casually, "I know, Li Jingjing's mother, Commander Li's daughter-in-law, right?"

The noblewoman nodded subconsciously and said haughtily, "Yes."

Then, she saw An Moxue get out of the car and return to her own car.

She wasn't sure if the vixen had agreed or not.

I'm so angry! Her stubborn and nagging nature is just awful.

An Moxue walked home, told Aunt Ma she had something to do, and then drove off.

As soon as Wu Sicheng returned to his residence, he heard the sound of a car stopping outside the door, followed by a knock on the door.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw An Moxue standing prettily in the doorway, looking him over with a scrutinizing expression. He had a bad feeling and felt a chill run down his spine.

As Wu Sicheng pulled An Moxue into the house, he asked, "Moxue? What's wrong? What happened? Didn't we just break up?"

"Of course I came to see you because I have something to say! Otherwise, why would I come here after we just parted ways?" An Moxue replied irritably. After all, he was the one who caused her trouble, so who else should she turn to?

Solve it yourself?

Am I stupid?

"What is it?" Wu Sicheng asked, but she didn't answer until she entered the house, where she ordered, "Pour me a glass of water."

"Alright! You wait here!" Wu Sicheng poured a glass of water and placed it in An Moxue's hand. "Moxue, it's cooled boiled water, you can drink it."

After An Moxue finished half a glass of water and put it down, Wu Sicheng asked, "Can you tell me what happened now?"

"Here." An Moxue took a voice recorder out of her pocket and handed it to Wu Sicheng.

He looked completely bewildered. "Mo Xue?"

An Moxue said with a half-smile, "Open it and listen."

Wu Sicheng turned on the recorder and listened to it. His expression changed repeatedly.

Wu Sicheng glanced at his watch and said, "Mo Xue, don't worry. I will definitely give you a satisfactory answer. Are you going to wait here or go home?"

An Moxue stood up and said, "Let's go home."

"Okay." The two of them left the house together.

Wu Sicheng watched An Moxue's car leave, locked the gate, and drove away from home. However, the anger in his chest burned even more fiercely after An Moxue was no longer by his side, and he felt like his head was about to burst into flames.
