In the middle of the night, when An Moxue was sleeping soundly, she heard the frantic howling of the wind, one howl after another.
Hearing the sound, An Moxue quickly dressed and opened the door. When she opened the door, she saw Jifeng, who was injured.
It circled around An Moxue, calling out repeatedly, clearly in a great hurry.
"You mean a group of people came into the mountains and attacked your wolf pack with guns, resulting in some wolves being killed or wounded?"
Jifeng howled a few more times. An Moxue wrote a note and gave it to Jifeng to carry. "Go to Old Ma's house and find your Brother Wu. Hurry."
Jifeng turned and left the house, while An Moxue began packing her equipment, taking out two sniper rifles.
Wu Sicheng arrived quickly. When he arrived, An Moxue was already waiting for him at the gate. Seeing the equipment on An Moxue, his eyes were deep, but he didn't say anything.
An Moxue didn't care about anything else. While equipping Wu Sicheng, she said to him, "Let's go up the mountain first. If it doesn't work, we'll ask Uncle Ma to find help."
Wu Sicheng took the equipment from An Moxue, and the two of them and the wolf quickly headed into the depths of the mountains and forests, leaving only afterimages with each leap.
In the darkness, the forest was exceptionally quiet, and the occasional hoot of an owl was particularly eerie, mournful and tragic, like the cry of a baby or woman who had died tragically.
After walking a long way, deep into the forest, An Moxue discovered the corpses of wolves and traces left from a fierce battle.
Following the trail, a gust of wind howled and rushed past, disappearing without a trace.
An Moxue suddenly heard gunshots and wolf howls. Without thinking twice, the two of them rushed over to the sound.
The crowd and the wolf pack were locked in a fierce battle, and the two men in question were clearly not soldiers.
Without saying a word, An Moxue fired the first shot into the crowd, hitting a man's right hand. Before anyone could react, she fired another shot into his right leg.
Hearing the gunshots, the crowd knew their comrade was wounded. Panicked, they fought the wolves while trying to take cover, interspersed with shouts and curses.
Immediately afterwards, Wu Sicheng fired the first shot, followed by a barrage of fire, each shot hitting the enemy's right leg.
The situation quickly turned one-sided; everyone was injured in one leg, and the nearest wolves would seize the opportunity to attack the wounded. The battle ended quickly, in just over ten minutes, with everyone on the ground.
An Moxue shouted, "Wind and lightning, stop them!"
Gale and Lightning obediently issued their commands, and the wolf pack withdrew from the crowd and surrounded them.
"Wu Sicheng, go check on those people first, I'll check on the wolf pack."
The two split up, and An Moxue took out medicine and began to apply it to the injured wolf and bandage it.
After she finished her work, Wu Sicheng also gathered the crowd together and collected the weapons. When An Moxue went over, she couldn't help but shudder when she saw the miserable state of the crowd. In addition to gunshot wounds, some had their faces scratched, some had their arms bitten off, and some had their legs bitten off. In short, their whole bodies were a terrible sight.
These people all looked at An Moxue and Wu Sicheng with resentment, but would the two of them care?
"How about it?"
“Some of them came from Mongolia, and some came from our side. They came looking for the tomb of some high priest.”
Upon hearing this, An Moxue immediately understood what had happened; she hadn't expected these people to have fallen into her hands.
An Moxue glanced at those people, suppressing the smile in her eyes, and asked, "What should we do?"
"Take it back."
An Moxue said with disdain, "How can we carry it? It can't even walk."
Wu Sicheng thought for a moment, "Let's find a place and have either Gale or Lightning go back and send a message so someone can come in and pick us up!"
"OK."
So, An Moxue wrote a note to Lightning and went down the mountain to deliver the message.
Jifeng led Wu Sicheng to a sheltered spot where the snow was heavy and they dug two snowdrifts, where the two rested.
As for the captured prisoners, they were only a short distance away. There was no way they could escape. The wolf pack had already dispersed, but Gale stayed behind to stay by An Moxue's side. As long as there was a sound, Gale would notice it without needing two people.
One person tried to escape, but a gust of wind bit off his neck, and the others immediately became obedient.
At noon, An Moxue was sitting by the fire, roasting a rabbit, while Wu Sicheng was skinning a pheasant next to her. Jifeng and Shandian were watching An Moxue with longing eyes.
"Alright, almost done, just a little while longer and we can eat."
The two wolves suddenly stood up, their eyes fixed intently ahead, ready for battle. An Moxue looked over and said to Wu Sicheng, "The reinforcements may have arrived."
Wu Sicheng stood up and said, "I'll go check on it, you keep baking."
A few minutes later, Wu Sicheng returned with a large group of people and stopped some distance away from An Moxue.
Upon seeing a group of people, the two wolves were about to pounce when An Moxue stopped them: "Stop, we're on the same side. Come here, the rabbits are roasted, one for each wolf, eat first."
Wu Sicheng and his men stopped a short distance away for a while. After they had taken the prisoners away, Wu Sicheng said, "Let's finish roasting these and go back!"
"OK."
"Aren't you going to abandon those wolves?"
An Moxue watched Jifeng and Shandian eating roasted rabbit and said, "No, those wolves have all helped me. I can't let people skin them and then eat their meat. You say wolves are more united than humans? They know how to protect their cubs and mother wolves, and the wolf king and the adult wolves are always at the forefront. Why can't humans do that?"
The two wolves understood her words and looked up at her.
Wu Sicheng took the pheasant from her hand and said, "Maybe human nature is inherently selfish! Just do your best. You sit down, I'll roast it."
"Now, eight wolves in the pack have died. I don't know when my Gale and Lightning will be able to have their own cubs and strengthen the pack."
Gale and Lightning knew An Moxue was talking about them, and howled a few times, though it was unclear what they were trying to say.
Wu Sicheng wanted to laugh: "Don't worry about it, they'll have their own cubs when they meet a wolf they like."
"Sigh! I'm worried about everyone, and I can't leave anyone behind."
Wu Sicheng rarely saw her so childlike, and praised her, "Yes, you are the most loving."
An Moxue rolled her eyes: "What nonsense are you talking about in broad daylight! I don't know anything about you! Who are you talking about?"
Wu Sicheng couldn't help but laugh out loud, his voice carrying far away.
An Moxue whimpered, "Is that funny?"
Wu Sicheng suppressed a laugh, and what he said was insincere: "It's not funny, it's not funny. -- Ha! -- Hahahaha!"
An Moxue ignored him and waited until he had finished roasting the pheasant. The two of them and the two wolves ate and drank their fill, extinguished the fire, and headed out of the mountains.
They hadn't walked far when they encountered people from the county public security bureau and the armed forces department. The two of them then walked down the mountain with them.
