Side Story 3: Adorable Baby Edition

Wu Sicheng reached out and flicked her nose with his finger, then said with a smile, "Yes, but the four of us will have to sleep on the kang (heated brick bed). Let's go, let's change rooms."

"yeah!"

"Dad is the best!"

"Dad, I love you the most!"

As he walked out, a satisfied smile graced his face, while he muttered to himself, "They're all just like your mothers, saying nice things to whoever they're talking to, they're just sweet-talkers."

The three children filed out and went to the next room, which was a room with a large kang (heated brick bed) that could sleep seven or eight people. Since the triplets were born, the room had been used very frequently.

The children originally wanted to fetch water to clean the kang (a heated brick bed), but when they reached out and touched it, they found that the kang was not only clean, but also still warm.

"Dad, did you heat the kang (heated brick bed)? Do you want to sleep with us too?" Sweet Orange's surprised voice rang out.

A faint smile remained on his lips, a relaxed and joyful smile. "Yes, I've missed you terribly. It's been months since I've seen my darlings. You've all grown up and become more sensible, especially sweet orange, whose hair has grown so much longer."

Hearing his words, the three children were full of energy. They got onto the kang (a heated brick bed) and eagerly took out quilts and pillows from the cupboard, spreading them on the kang.

Wu Sicheng watched from the sidelines, not stopping them, letting them do it. It didn't matter if they didn't do it well; as they did more and more, they would become more skilled and eventually learn it.

The children spread out their blankets, pulled Wu Sicheng onto the kang (a heated brick bed), and Jing Huai skillfully took out a storybook from the cabinet and placed it in Wu Sicheng's hands.

He held up a book and asked, "What stories would you like to hear tonight, kids?"

Jinghuai pointed to a page in the book and said, "Dad talked about this part last time."

Wu Sicheng is very busy and has little time to spend with his children. An Moxue is the same; she's even less likely to be home than him.

Therefore, whenever he has time to spend with his children, he tries his best to meet their reasonable requests.

"Okay, then lie down obediently. Today we'll tell you the story of three monks. After we're done, go to sleep obediently and don't talk too much, okay?" He focused his attention on Sweet Orange, who was the most talkative of them all.

Upon hearing his words, the three obediently crawled into bed, their three big, dark eyes staring at him expectantly.

"Once upon a time, in a remote ancient temple, lived a young monk who fetched water from a river far down the mountain every day, living a comfortable and peaceful life. Then one day, a tall monk arrived. The tall monk felt it was unfair for one person to carry water alone, so he and the young monk began to carry water together. However, the young monk was too small, and each time he carried water back, most of it would spill, which displeased the tall monk. Moreover, the tall monk ended up drinking most of the water, so from then on, the two of them went down the mountain to fetch water. After some time, a fat monk arrived, and this time, the three of them argued endlessly about who should fetch water each day. Eventually, none of them went to fetch water anymore, because whoever went felt they were being taken advantage of. Gradually, there was no water left to drink."

Jingren scoffed, "How stupid! One person can do it in a day, can't you?"

Jing Huai asked in confusion, "But what if they still feel unhappy about who drinks more or less water, and think it's unfair? What should we do then?"

Sweet Orange said, "Then we'll each pick our own."

Wu Sicheng looked at the children and asked, "But there's only one jar that can hold water, isn't there?"

Jing Huai pondered for a moment, then sighed like a little adult: "Sigh! Too many people mean too much trouble. It's so much better when I'm alone!"

Sweet Orange chimed in, "Disunity is unacceptable and bad." She then shook her head seriously, indicating her disagreement.

Jingren, acting like an adult, said, "Yes, someone always has to suffer a loss, otherwise they wouldn't have any to drink at all, which would be even worse. Why can't they do the math? Stupid!"

Wu Sicheng was very happy to see the children expressing their own opinions and ideas.

After finishing the story, he glanced at his watch and said, "My darlings, it's time for bed!"

As he spoke, he turned off the light.

In the darkness, the three children slept in a row, with Jing Huai next to Wu Sicheng. They always took turns being next to their parents, and they were used to it. They would remember who they were next to last time and take turns next time, never showing favoritism.

Soon, even breathing could be heard, but Wu Sicheng couldn't fall asleep in the dark, tossing and turning, thinking about An Moxue.

When he was busy, he didn't have time to think about it and forced himself not to. However, when he returned home and faced his lovely children, he couldn't see their mother. He could no longer suppress his longing and kept recalling An Moxue's voice and smile in his mind.

In the darkness, Jinghuai rolled over beside him, muttering, "Mom, I'm being a good boy and setting a good example for my brother."

In the darkness, Wu Sicheng laughed and scolded, "You brat!" Then he reached out and, by the moonlight, felt around on each child, covering them with blankets again.

Even though Dad is home, the children still ask several times a day, "When is Mom coming back?"

Wu Sicheng always answered the children's questions very patiently.

Perhaps because they were used to separation from a young age, the children missed their mothers who were not around and often talked about them, but they didn't make too much noise. After they finished talking, they would play or eat as usual.

One day, Wu Sicheng inadvertently discovered a secret of the children.

He discovered that whether it was Jinghuai, Jingren, or Tiancheng, they all seemed to hide things they considered very good, and they treasured them greatly. Sometimes when the three of them got together, they acted very mysteriously.

In the following days, this behavior occurred every day.

When An Moxue returned, the children saw their mother and ruthlessly abandoned their father, who had been playing with them, and went straight to An Moxue.

"Mother!"

"Mother!"

"Mother!"

She dropped the large bag she was carrying, squatted down, smiled, and stretched out her arms to hug her three little ones.

"Mom, you're back!"

"Mom, I miss you so much!"

"Mom, we left you lots of things! They're all things you like."

An Moxue looked at Wu Sicheng, her eyes silently asking, "What? They've learned new tricks after just a few months?"

Wu Sicheng stood there, shrugged, and looked like he didn't know either.

An Moxue looked at him, silently laughing and scolding, "You stingy little thing, so what if I held your three little darlings first? You're jealous?"

Wu Sicheng's eyes seemed to say, "Eat! I'm going to eat."

An Moxue lowered her head, avoiding looking at the childish ghost not far away, and asked, "Alright, I brought you a bunch of good stuff, do you want to take a look?"

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" the children shouted. Every time their mother came home, there was a surprise, much better than with their father.
