Chapter 109 The Whole Family Is Together

"Yu'er, your mother looks so pitiful, do you want to let him hold her?"

Yu'er smiled, her big, round eyes were especially clear.

Luckily, I managed to hold him. Looking at Yu'er in my arms, I saw him reach out his little hand and gently pat my palm.

"She really doesn't need her husband anymore now that she has a son. She doesn't even call me in her dreams."

"Yuancheng, why did you bring Yu'er here?"

Yuan Cheng got up and sat down next to me, letting me lean on his shoulder. "Of course I have to carry you. You've been crying for two days before your accident. Only Bizhu and Wan'er are in the manor. How can those two young ladies take care of a child?"

Yu'er wanted to rub his eyes, so I quickly grabbed his hand. He then pinched my index finger with both hands and asked, "Isn't the nanny here?"

"She disappeared. We had just set off when the manor was suddenly attacked at night. The wet nurse covered Bizhu and Wan'er as they fled to the cellar. When they came out in the morning, all the young ladies in the manor were gone. Later, Lin Chao searched many places but could not find them."

My heart skipped a beat. Looking at Yu'er's carefree face, I huddled closer to Xie Yuancheng. The manor was so heavily guarded; they were able to capture all the girls.

"Don't worry, Lin Chao has already comforted their families. It's just that they realized how important life is after going through a life-or-death situation."

Yu'er turned his head, and Xie Yuancheng hugged him. His mother brought in the food.

I calmed myself down. Thankfully, someone was still alive.

Every day, I would play with Yu'er in the mansion and watch the little expressions on his face, which would make me happy for half a day.

Mother really loves Yu'er and can't get enough of him. When Yu'er sleeps with her at night, he doesn't cry or fuss.

Once, I begged Xie Yuancheng to let Yu'er sleep on the bed, but he started crying before I even lay down. Luckily, his mother came in, and the little guy stopped crying as soon as she held him.

"Yu'er~ I'm your own mother, but you won't even let me sleep with you."

"Ying'er, Yu'er is still so young. You're not fully recovered yet. Don't worry, I'll take care of him."

I could only nod, but I also felt like I wanted to sleep with my soft, cuddly son. However, I was more worried about Xie Yuancheng. Now that I could barely get out of bed, he would lie down next to me to sleep, and sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night, which would scare me so much that I would rush up as soon as I saw him make a sound.

When we woke up the next day, we both had dark circles under our eyes, and Yu'er was still giggling next to us.

He definitely has something on his mind. This little man has such a strong sense of male pride. Wait until I'm better, and I'll see how I deal with him.

One day I saw Consort Ji's handkerchief and asked my mother about the situation in the palace, which led me to her. My mother then told me that Consort Ji had come to visit several times, and each time I was in a deep sleep.

The people in the palace are in a state of panic, yet she still dares to come out.

“Ying’er, Consort Ji is one of our family members. If she gets better, we will get better too.”

"Mother, I know."

After lying in bed for more than half a month, I was finally able to go out of the yard for a walk. Xie Yuancheng would sometimes go out, but every time I wanted to walk, he would always appear.

"Yuancheng, you didn't sleep well last night."

"Did I disturb you?"

He and I sat under a tree in the yard. It was June, and the weather was starting to get warmer.

"I'm just worried."

I am now unable to move around easily, and he keeps having nightmares. After discussing it with my mother, we gave him several doses of medicine, but he still hasn't gotten better.

In his dreams, he always calls out to me to run fast because it's dangerous ahead, or he calls for my parents or sister, and then he starts crying.

However, I didn't tell him that; I just said that he often had nightmares when he turned over in bed.

Every time he wants to lay a mattress on the floor, I make a fuss with him. If he dares not to sleep on the bed, I will break up with him.

"It'll be fine, it's just that I've been very busy lately and have been distracted."

I held his hand and hugged him. This brat, is he even more willful than me? I've lost so much weight, my clothes don't even fit me anymore. He's the same, leaning on him feels like leaning against a pile of branches.

"You're too thin, it's uncomfortable to lean on you, I'm not leaning on you anymore."

Xie Yuancheng grabbed me as I stood up and made me lean against him again: "Then I'll fatten you up so you can lean on me like this."

"You wish! What man is as skinny as you? If it weren't for your face, you'd probably be blown away by the wind."

“Ying’er is right.”

Cuiyun rushed over, saying that a guest had arrived and specifically asked Xie Yuancheng to go see him.

"Cuiyun, who has come?"

"I...I don't know. Madam is already in the backyard. Tell the Marquis to go there quickly."

I believe it's because I taught well that everyone is equal and there's no need to refer to oneself as a servant or lackey; it sounds grating.

"Ying'er, let me carry you back first."

"I'll go with you."

Seeing Xie Yuancheng's obvious displeasure, I shut up. Let him hug me if he wants.

I was lying in bed. Luckily, he was in a good mood. Yu'er had just woken up, and he held her in his arms, letting me talk to him.

I was rubbing Yu'er's little hands in the room. He tilted his head and looked at me like that, and I almost wanted to rub his face too. He's so small and cute. This kid already knows how to flirt with girls; what will he be like in the future?

All the maids in the manor liked to fawn over Yu'er, and I lost favor as soon as he arrived.

"Young master, the young marquis likes you very much."

Of course he's my son, how could he not like me?

"Ying'er".

My mother, unusually, rushed in without a care for her image. She had already lost her composure once before, and it was surprising to see her like this again when I was in a good mood.

"Mother, what's wrong?"

Cuiyun hurriedly took Yu'er to the side, her eyes filled with worry, probably because she had never seen her mother like this before.

"Cuiyun, put Yu'er down and let us talk. Also, quickly tell the kitchen to prepare more food. Once it's ready, take it to the backyard. It's been a long time since we've been to the backyard. It's good to sit there once in a while."

Cuiyun carefully placed Yu'er on the bed. Yu'er, having just gained his freedom, immediately turned over in bed.

"Mother, what's wrong?"

"Mother is happy."

I quickly wiped away her tears, while also making sure Yu'er didn't roll off the bed.

I saw Xie Yuancheng bring two people in, and my mother sat down beside him when she heard the noise. Only when they got closer did I realize they were two complete strangers.

Xie Yuancheng gave a few instructions outside the door and then closed it.

The two men pulled off their masks, revealing themselves to be the father and the prime minister.

"Father, Uncle Cui."

My father's temples are all white. Last time there was only a little bit, but now they're completely white!

"Ying'er, lie down first. I was able to enter the city this time thanks to Brother Cui's help."

"Brother Ji, please don't be so polite. It's rare for us to meet. I knew it was you the moment I saw your eyes at the city gate."

"It's all thanks to Brother Cui that Ying'er was able to return to the manor this time."

"Brother Ji is here again. Ying'er is practically my daughter now. When I first heard about it, I thought it was just a rumor from the palace. But when Xin'er came back from the palace, I learned that the Crown Prince had actually taken drastic measures. It's all the Emperor's fault for saying it was a serious illness in order to appease public anger, which prevented me from even submitting a memorial to the throne."

I noticed the atmosphere was becoming tense, and Xie Yuancheng clenched his fists. I also bear some responsibility for this, but thankfully I rushed in, otherwise everyone would be mourning Li Ruowei right now.
