Xie Yuancheng and I were both stunned. Looking at the monster structure diagrams sent by the shopkeeper, we realized that they were exactly like human bodies, only much more evil and extremely violent.
Xie Yuancheng helped the shopkeeper fix the most important parts. I watched while snacking. It's much more complicated than before, with so much data to record.
Moreover, the curtains inside were all drawn, so the contents were even clearer. I could even see a bunch of very fine threads inside when the shopkeeper was repairing it.
"Ying'er, be careful you don't get fat."
I protected the things in my hands: "Don't accept them, I'll just eat here. Anyway, you said I'm thin, it's good for me to be a little chubby."
Xie Yuancheng laughed beside me as he started reading reports from various places. I put down my tablet and leaned over to look as well.
Many people had bandages on their heads, and large red patches on them. The more I looked, the more anxious I became. Who invented this? Isn't this just harming people?
Xie Yuancheng simulated their outlines and put them into a model system, and their parameters matched the shopkeeper's information perfectly.
"Even if everything is correct, the entry point is not shown, so there will be even more people being attacked."
Xie Yuancheng nodded, resting his chin on his hand as he looked at the recent developments. Some people really value money over life, following professional media outlets to film videos and do live streams. I can even see the weirdos behind them.
Soon, major media outlets began reporting that some people, in pursuit of traffic, disregarded the rules of the defense line and insisted on entering the combat zone, which is why they disappeared.
"They are willing to take such a big risk for this traffic."
"If they survive, they become celebrities. Even if they die, they will still have a substantial amount of money in their accounts."
I shook my head. If you're dead, who will spend the money?
Xie Yuancheng rubbed my head: "Ying'er, many people start from a different point than us. We don't have to worry about money here or in Dazhao, so you don't know that people at the bottom can risk their lives for a few dozen yuan."
"Could it really be like this?"
"Yes, we've been here for a year and have seen a lot of news. The people here are cold and indifferent. Many people lose everything overnight, or they've never had any money to use since they were young. Once you've experienced extreme poverty, you know that even a dollar is money."
"Okay, but some people just want to be famous."
"His initial motivation for becoming famous was the lure of money. If he hadn't earned it, he could have survived and perhaps had a good opportunity to turn his life around later. But once he did earn it, his name spread very quickly, and his net worth skyrocketed."
I sat up straight: "How did you know?"
"When I was helping my master repair it, I saw many unbelievable things, so I looked up a lot of information and that's how I found out."
"You've really suffered, having to support me, help the shopkeeper, and worry about the world."
"I don't care about the world, I just find it strange and want to know. But you, you always know how to tease me, I'll teach you a lesson today."
I quickly hid to the side, protesting, "Where did I tease you?" Xie Yuancheng tickled me, "Alright, my good Yuancheng, Chengcheng, my Cheng'er."
"Look, you're giving me random names again."
"I surrender."
I held up my hands, and he said, "Stop tickling me! The more you tickle me, the more I want to laugh."
"I'll let you off the hook for now, come and give me a massage."
That brat, once he got cocky, he started ordering me around. I took the opportunity to get revenge, but I wasn't fast enough to catch him, and in the end, we were all wiped out.
The next day, as soon as I woke up, I heard voices outside. I was about to get up to see what was going on when Xie Yuancheng pulled me back into bed.
"Ying'er, we have surveillance cameras outside. We can just watch the footage."
I slapped my forehead and hurriedly opened my tablet. Outside were images of injured people. "Was this neighborhood attacked too?"
I half-closed my eyes and snuggled into Xie Yuancheng's arms. He patted my back and asked, "Where did you get the courage to come to the battlefield with me back then?"
"The scene was too much. You were unconscious in the carriage, and I even stabbed the assassin. But you were in trouble, so of course I wasn't afraid for you."
"They were fighting each other, not being attacked."
He had barely finished speaking when a car drove up.
"Everyone, hurry inside and close the windows and curtains. The monster has entered the city, so don't go out."
I woke up with a start. Xie Yuancheng pressed a button, and the room went dark. I hugged his waist; the floor had been cleared of those uniformed men.
Those who were watching the commotion hurriedly ran back, one after another.
"How cold-blooded."
"It's alright, as long as I'm not cold-blooded towards Ying'er."
I nodded, leaning against him: "We should also include Yu'er, the Ji family, Uncle Cui, and my own mother."
"Okay, I remember everything you care about."
I pulled the covers up; it was barely dawn outside. How could those monsters run so fast? This is one of the most prosperous cities in the world; shouldn't its defenses be very strong?
Xie Yuancheng was leaning against a soft pillow, scrolling through the news. I leaned on his shoulder to look at the data and photos; they were truly astonishing.
The shopkeeper sent a voice message saying that there had been a problem with the city's defenses and that we should be ready to go to the quarantine area at any time. He was quite enthusiastic, and Xie Yuancheng reassured him that his phone and tablet could connect together as long as they had internet access.
I was hungry, so I hurriedly got up to wash up. Xie Yuancheng followed me in, so we took half the usual time.
He packed all my favorite foods into the quarantine box. I was wondering, why did he bring such a big pile of things into the house when they were supposed to be boxes?
"This is the isolation box."
"The shopkeeper is also unscrupulous, using our bedroom as an isolation box."
“Master has put a lot of thought into this. The two of us here together are like an isolation box. If we are separated, it won’t be like that. He must be worried that Ying’er will run around, so he made this ingenious design.”
"Then I'll apologize to the shopkeeper first and thank him for saving us."
"Yes, we can't go down to cook now. Luckily, Ying'er had the foresight."
He doesn't like eating these things; he even finds the smell unpleasant. I sat down on the sofa next to him, and he followed.
"You can't stand the smell anyway, don't torture yourself."
"Ying'er can't be too far away from me, otherwise the isolation box will be ineffective."
I quickly hugged him, saying, "We're almost there." Embarrassingly, my stomach growled. It was so unfair; he, a man, could endure hunger, while my stomach was so uncooperative.
Xie Yuancheng was laughing beside me. I peeled some fruit for him to eat. Luckily, there was everything in the house, and he brought up about half of the food.
I tried to feed him pastries and fried food with kind words, but he refused after a few bites.
“Yuancheng, it’s uncomfortable for me to lie on you at night. My whole body feels like it’s made of bones.”
Xie Yuancheng closed his eyes and ate a few more bites. I felt sorry for him and said, "I'll cook for you properly from now on."
