"Haha, Mother~" He reached out again, and Xie Yuancheng changed his posture to hug Yu'er, who was now facing away from me.
Xie Yuancheng carried Yu'er to the bedside, covered him with a soft quilt, and said a few words to him. Yu'er touched his face and smiled.
I glanced inside a few times, and Xie Yuancheng came over. "Is your son asleep?"
"Yes, I'm quite good at taking care of kids."
Xie Yuancheng looked very proud. I beckoned him to come and sit down. His face is a little chubby now, and I pinch it a couple of times whenever I have a spare moment.
“Ying’er, you are seven months pregnant now, and the New Year is just around the corner. Your parents-in-law are busy, so you can’t cause any trouble.”
I leaned against him reassuringly. "Of course I won't cause any trouble. You see, I'll listen to everything you say."
"And Yu'er, he's just a child. You can't be as careful as I am. You have to take care of him first. After he's born, you can play with him however you want."
"Okay, I just want to be with my son. When you hear him softly call me 'Mom' or 'Dad,' doesn't your heart melt?"
“I’ve been smitten for a long time. When we go out for a walk hand in hand, the little guy knows to call out to people. Although he doesn’t speak clearly, I can guess what he’s calling out.”
"That's right, that's why I couldn't resist."
“My mother-in-law has been busy these past few days, so I’ve been holding Yu’er in the house. But you can’t get too close. Think about the baby in your belly for now. If you want to hold your son, I’ll hold him for you to see.”
"Okay, my belly is indeed very big. Is it because I've been eating too much good food?"
"No, the food that Bizhu made for you back then was also arranged by me. Except for that annoying doctor who didn't calculate it correctly, everything else was very good."

I nodded. Yu'er called out, and after only a short while, he spoke.
Xie Yuancheng put me on the soft cushion and ran over to look. I waited for a while before Xie Yuancheng carried Yu'er around the room. Yu'er's eyes were half open, and he looked so pitiful.
Xie Yuancheng held his little hand, worried that he would rub his eyes.
It's really too much for him. He's a marquis, capable and talented, and now he's become a stay-at-home dad.
Yu'er takes a nap every afternoon, usually for about an hour. Xie Yuancheng and I were in the room when he had some free time, and he told me about the changes in the manor and many interesting discoveries.
Now the mansion has practically become his laboratory. He just messes around in there all the time, and somehow he does it all quite well.
When her mother came in, she saw Yu'er sleeping in bed. "It's good that Yu'er is here with you. This little darling is always running around. I just finished arranging things for the New Year in the mansion, and then he disappeared."
"Mother, Yu'er has been playing here for quite a while."
The mother patted her head: "Next time, we can't take Yu'er out to run errands. He runs too fast."
"Yes, he's still at the naughty stage. Luckily we're not too far away. You dressed him so warmly, he'll be fine."
"Luckily, Yu'er is still asleep. I'll go out and arrange things first, and then I'll bring him back when he wakes up."
“Mother, Yuancheng and I have discussed it. During this period, Yu’er will stay with us during the day, and we will send him over at night. After you finish preparing for the New Year, you can bring him over.”
"That's good, he always slips away when I'm not looking."
Xie Yuancheng saw his mother out, and I leaned back against the soft cushion, feeling sleepy as well.
When I woke up, Yu'er was already playing happily with Xie Yuancheng next to me.
"Yu'er is awake."
"Mommy~ Hehe." Yu'er crawled to my pillow, clutching a little round ball: "Mommy~"
He can call out to people now, but he can't say everything. He's trying to speak, but we can't understand him.
"Yu'er, come to Daddy." Xie Yuancheng clapped his hands, and Yu'er crawled over again.
Xie Yuancheng picked him up and threw the ball onto the bed. The ball bounced back, and Yu'er laughed even more happily.
As soon as I remembered, Xie Yuancheng turned to look at me and said, "Fine, I won't get up."
Yu'er was laughing while hugging the round ball. The pattern on it was very pretty, with five colors. Children love shiny things like this.
Yu'er tugged at Xie Yuancheng's sleeve: "Daddy~ Daddy~"
Xie Yuancheng started tossing the ball again, and Yu'er's big eyes were fixed on the ball. He would smile whenever the ball came back. Like Xie Yuancheng, he had dimples on his face, which made him look especially cute.
When Anxiang and Wan'er came in, Yu'er almost laughed so hard she lifted her clothes. Anxiang placed the smaller ball next to Yu'er.
Yu'er saw the ball and grabbed it, but he was weak and unlike Xie Yuancheng, he didn't know how to make the ball bounce back. He just threw it randomly, but when he saw the ball bouncing, he laughed.
Xie Yuancheng was throwing a ball to Yu'er next to him. This father and son only knew how to play ball at the foot of the bed, and they were laughing like little kids.
I feel extremely content. They are a part of me, and seeing them smile makes me happy.
Time flies, and the New Year is just ten days away. Yu'er, dressed in a little red outfit, dangles in front of me. He holds my index finger with his little hand and acts all cute beside me.
Seeing him reminds me of the times my mother took care of me when I was little. I must have annoyed her like this when I was a child.
"Yu'er, your father has prepared a small purse for you."
Hearing something, Yu'er ran to Xie Yuancheng's side: "Dad~"
"I've put it on for you." Xie Yuancheng hung a red tasseled embroidered crane pouch on Yu'er's little waistband, and Yu'er's little hand touched it.
"Daddy~ Pretty."
"It is beautiful."
"Flour".
Xie Yuancheng laughed beside him, patted his head, and told him to go play with Anxiang and Wan'er.
Tonight is a family dinner, and Ji Yun just happened to be called back, so there are quite a few people. What I find strange is that the beautiful and charming girl didn't come back with him.
But this is a private matter. When I talked to Xie Yuancheng about it, he told me not to keep asking about these things, so I didn't ask.
It will be eight months in just over half a month. The two babies were born in very close months, and we've celebrated our birthdays one after another, with very little time between them.
The dinner was very lavish. My mother held Yu'er and served him food. I was heavily pregnant and stood by, but thankfully Xie Yuancheng took care of me.
Ji Yun and he must have a good relationship. When they met, they acted like old friends. At first, I thought they only became acquainted when they were sending Linyang off, but later I found out that they had known each other since they were children.
Father was particularly happy at the banquet and even exchanged several couplets with Xie Yuancheng. Ji Yun was a military general and not very well-read, but he could still keep up with some of the responses.
I love playing with Yu'er, and it makes me even happier. Yu'er is a very good eater; he eats whatever I put on his plate, and after he finishes eating, he likes to wipe his mouth with the handkerchief next to him.
“Mother, Yu’er is like a little adult. He must have inherited Yuan Cheng’s true skills.”
Mother fed Yu'er vegetables: "You were just like this when you were little, always liking to do things in an orderly manner. Yu'er is just like you."
