I ran after Yu'er in the yard. He was indeed fast. He walked like a duck learning to walk, but he was incredibly agile.
"Mom~" Yu'er hugged my leg and snatched the puzzle piece from my hand with her other hand.
Xie Yuancheng really did finish the jigsaw puzzle he made for Yu'er in 2020. Yu'er would come and put together some of the puzzles each time, and sometimes she would run around with the puzzle pieces in her arms.
I picked him up. The other two in the room were probably about to wake up, so I could teach him to take care of his younger siblings from a young age.
Yu'er sat on my arm, holding the puzzle pieces in both hands, looking at them. He's getting more and more curious. Once, I saw Xie Yuancheng working on a wooden cart, and my eyes widened in amazement.
When asked, he said he had seen toy cars in toy parks and online. Although there is no electricity now, he should be able to make a toy car for Yu'er to play with using wooden planks.
He's really taken to being a father; he wants to make all the best things. He has to take care of both his family and his work outside the home, and I'm really worried he won't be able to manage it all.
"Little sister!" Yu'er saw that Su Ling was awake and happily placed the puzzle piece in front of her. When Su Ling grinned, he chuckled along.
“Yu’er, where is your younger brother? You never talk to him.”
"Little sister~" Yu'er looked at me pitifully, leaning against the cradle, looking as pitiful as could be.
Wan'er squatted down beside her and said, "Young Master, the Young Master is your younger brother, and he needs you very much too."
Yu'er looked up at her, "Little brother, little sister."
"Yes, the eldest young master has a younger brother and a younger sister, and they both like you very much."
"Hehe, I want a little sister."
Anxiang and I burst out laughing, and Wan'er was also being evaded by Yu'er. Yu'er ran over and hugged my leg, wanting me to hug him.
I picked Yu'er up, and he leaned against my shoulder: "Mommy~ Sister!"
"Knowing you have a younger sister, what about your younger brother? He's so pitiful. Yu'er, look, your brother is awake."
I held Yu'er and leaned against Xi's cradle. Xi's is now even prettier than Su Ling. Mother said that twins are more likely to be prettier than girls when they are young.
"Mother~" Yu'er struggled by the cradle, shaking Xi Zhi's cradle.
Xi Zhi blinked and smiled, and I touched Xi Zhi's face: "Yu'er, stop fooling around, look how handsome your little brother is."
Yu'er turned around and suddenly started wailing. I picked him up and he stopped crying.
"Yu'er~" I pinched his little nose, and he shook his head with a smile in my hand: "Little brother is going to be sad."
"I want a little sister~"
"You!"
I looked at Wan'er and Anxiang, and they waved their hands. Why does Yu'er dislike Xizhi so much? I'll have to talk to Xie Yuancheng about it later.
Could it be because older brothers don't like their younger brothers? No way, I've seen some families where the two brothers have a very good relationship.
Yu'er hugged my index finger, "Mother~"
"Okay, Mom will take you to see your little sister."
When Yu'er heard that she was going to see Su Ling, her eyes lit up and she clapped her hands in my arms.
I put him next to Su Ling's cradle, and the two children actually started babbling and chatting.
"Wan'er, what are they talking about?"
Xi Zhi was so pitiful, so I had to hold him in my arms to comfort him. Thankfully, Xi Zhi didn't cry or make a fuss. He just had big eyes that melted my heart.
"Madam, this has stumped me. I really don't know what they're talking about!"
Wan'er was a little frustrated, and so was I. If even the mother didn't know, then others would understand even less.
Anxiang stayed with Wan'er, watching over Yu'er, afraid he might accidentally make Su Ling cry. Last time, Yu'er got a new pillow and said he wanted to give it to his sister, but he actually woke her up by patting her.
So they were all worried that Yu'er would suddenly make a move. Su Ling was too young to withstand Yu'er's little slap.
"Ying'er, come with me somewhere."
Xie Yuancheng suddenly came in, and I went over with Xizhi in my arms and asked, "Where are you going? Why are you here so suddenly?"
"Let my mother-in-law help look after them for a bit, we'll be going now."
Mother came in too. She took Xizhi from me, told me to be careful, and then Xie Yuancheng pulled me away.
I hadn't even realized it was springtime when I was on the way, so I was wearing a pomegranate-colored skirt and a light yellow thin top.
"We'll be back tonight."
"But what about Yu'er and the others?"
"Don't worry, your mother-in-law will take care of you."
Xie Yuancheng led me through the back door. Lin Chao was already outside. I still felt strange when I got in the car and kept asking Xie Yuancheng, but he wouldn't say a word.
"Oh, right, I was just about to tell you, Yu'er never likes Xizhi, and she was just pretending to cry."
"This child only wants his younger brother and not his younger sister. We'll teach him that gradually later."
"Then where are you rushing off to?"
"Of course I should take Ying'er out for a walk. You spend every day with the children, so you should spend more time with me too."
"Come on, you've seen Yu'er and the others more than I have now. I feel like you're going to ignore me."
"Stop acting like a child. They are our children, and they are so young. If we don't love them, who will?"
"Always trying to be cheeky!" I leaned against him. The carriage was moving very fast. I lifted the curtain; there was no one on either side. "Where are we going?"
"People from Chequ Kingdom have arrived and are currently outside the city. I need to hurry over there."
"Ah, they're here. You should be called Caiwei, since we don't look alike."
“Why call her? This time I need to explain everything to Changze. These past two days, Uncle Cui said that people have been disappearing from the Second Prince's residence without reason. If we talk to Changze, maybe he can bring Caiwei out.”
"Has something happened to Caiwei?"
"I'm not sure either, but judging from Uncle Cui's tone, he seems to know something. Since we need to focus on dealing with the Empress's relatives right now, we can't let Uncle Cui be distracted."
"Poor Caiwei, such a beautiful girl."
"What did you say!" Xie Yuancheng started again, and I went straight over to argue with him.
After he let go, I straightened my clothes and asked, "By the way, how's Li Zhaole doing?"
"She escaped with Xiren midway. Because it was the middle of the night and they had a child with them, they disguised themselves as peasant women and stayed in the countryside for a while until things calmed down before coming to the capital."
"So pitiful, she is a princess of the Great Zhao."
"However, they are also victims of the royal family. If a princess is remarried as part of a political marriage, the royal family will not care whether she lives well or not."
"Can we help her?"
Xie Yuancheng frowned. I stared at him intently. We both had our own problems to deal with, yet we still had to meddle in other people's business.
"After all, she's called me 'brother' for so many years, and you've been flirting with her all this time. I'll try my best."
"I didn't seduce her at all. I pretended to be a prince consort to marry a wife in order to save my life."
Xie Yuancheng laughed beside me. I leaned against the carriage pillar, sulking. He always liked to bring up this incident. I valued my life. At that time, I held the future of the Ji family and Consort Ji in my hands. How could I disobey the imperial order?
"Alright, Father is already helping to find Xiren now."
