Chapter 239 Sandstorm

I originally thought Xie Yuancheng wouldn't know what I was thinking, but I didn't expect him to say it out loud.

"Ying'er will definitely say that I've fallen for someone else, and then she'll castrate me, won't she?"

"Good to know. I feel so sleepy, even if I close my eyes and go to sleep."

I closed my eyes and didn't speak. I'd been walking around like this for the past few days and was completely exhausted. I thought Xie Yuancheng was rushing to the city center, but it turns out it was all a smokescreen.

He's probably afraid of being betrayed again, like before. If I were in his shoes, I would do the same. Once bitten, twice shy.

Xie Yuancheng was unusually well-behaved this time, neither causing trouble nor making a sound, and he slept soundly against me. I couldn't sleep, so I touched his face. It's amazing he can fall asleep against me; if someone were to come and assault him, I wouldn't be able to resist!

Xie Yuancheng woke me up before dawn. I was about to rub my eyes when he slapped me back down, saying, "Ying'er, we're in dusty places right now. If you rub your eyes, you'll get rabbit eyes right away."

"But I'm not fully awake!"

"Let me blow on it for you." Xie Yuancheng leaned over and blew on it, which made me even sleepier.

“My dear wife, if you lean on me any longer, I’ll have to do something else.”

I half-opened my eyes and resignedly climbed onto the saddle and sat down. Xie Yuancheng followed. He packed things up very quickly. What was originally a tent was packed up in a flash.

"Ying'er~ You went to bed on time last night, why are you still sleepy this morning?"

"I saw you spacing out last night, and I don't know when you fell asleep. It's all your fault, always showing off your good looks in front of me."

"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng leaned over and kissed me on the cheek: "I belong to you alone, don't worry. Even if I have to betray everyone else, I will never betray you."

"It's because you're so annoying that you make my heart ache."

"Yes, I'll give you a heads-up in a bit. Around noon, there's going to be a big sandstorm, so we need to go to a mountain about ten miles away to take shelter."

"You knew all that?" I turned to look at him, and Xie Yuancheng squinted his eyes: "Of course I know."

I leaned directly into his arms and let him carry me out, hoping he'd bend my back under the weight. Xie Yuancheng wasn't annoyed; he simply held me with one arm and we continued on our way.

I drifted off to sleep, unaware of what Xie Yuancheng was doing. When I woke up, I was already in the cave.

"Is it noon?"

"Yes, that was close, you didn't even see it. The tornado here is quite strong, so the Crown Prince's soldiers didn't dare to come over. By the time they reached the central city, Lin Chao's matter was already settled."

I moved a little further away from him so I could catch up on some sleep. I was lost in thought until midnight last night, and I was woken up just as I fell asleep.

"Ying'er, I'll give you something that will surely help you wake up." Xie Yuancheng rolled his handsome eyes, but I had been burned a few times before, so I ignored him.

Xie Yuancheng came over directly, took a wet cloth to wipe my body, and then started pestering me.

"You're so annoying~ I'm so tired."

"If Ying'er doesn't sleep at night again, I'll do this: lift up her clothes."

"Waaah~ This is so unfair~" I really wanted to kick him, but I didn't have the strength. I'll never go to see him again in the middle of the night.

I woke up in the afternoon, and the wind outside was howling loudly. I wasn't even dressed properly yet.

"Xie Yuancheng! You've gone too far!"

"Where did I go too far?" He was right next to me; I hadn't seen him earlier.

“I’m cold. If I catch a cold, I’ll be a burden to you. Besides, we’re in the wild, what if we get seen?”

"You really don't trust me enough that this place could be seen!"

Xie Yuancheng then came over to help me put on my clothes. I kicked him, and the bastard laughed: "Ying'er~ From now on, you should sleep less at night, and I'll be blessed during the day."

I got dressed and sat down by the fire. The fire wasn't very big, and the wind occasionally blew in from outside.

"Ying'er, this is for you. I know you've been working hard lately. Look how considerate I am!"

Xie Yuancheng pulled out a bowl of vegetable porridge from somewhere, and I held it as if it were a delicacy. In the Northern Desert, we only ate dried meat and military rations; our sense of taste had long since deteriorated.

"You can't keep doing these things, I'm so tired~" I complained to Xie Yuancheng as I finished my drink, leaning on his shoulder.

"That's because you're disobedient. All you do during the day is flirt with me, and you don't sleep at night. If this continues, you'll age prematurely."

I quickly touched my face: "Smooth face~"

"That's because I took good care of myself." Xie Yuancheng directly stole the credit. It's clearly my natural beauty that's the problem; even though he took good care of me, it can't compare to my naturally good looks!

We stayed in the mountains for two days before venturing out. The sandstorms outside had subsided, but the sun was extremely strong. So now we've changed our strategy to traveling in the morning and around 5 PM, continuing until 9 PM before resting.

When I have nothing to do at noon, Xie Yuancheng likes to come over and tell me about the past. He'll start hitting me while he's talking, but I'm used to his shamelessness, so I don't really take it to heart.

But he's never satisfied and he messes around at night. I'm worried about Ma's future.

"Xie Yuancheng, move a little closer!" We've been walking along the edge of the desert for a week without seeing a single person; it feels like such a waste of time.

"Ying'er, I'm worried you're bored. I'm even willing to sacrifice myself to cheer you up."

Xie Yuancheng smiled at me as we lay in the tent. He had said that we should go to bed early and get up early to stay young forever, but now he was breaking the rules himself.

"Yuancheng~ My back and legs are weak, but you are full of energy. I'm going to suffer~" I started to speak softly and sweetly, and he fell for it.

"Ying'er, I haven't seen you day or night, you must be so bored. I'll cheer you up."

I took his hand and said, "You're still young, take good care of yourself."

"It's normal for young people to do outrageous things, so don't refuse."

I really wanted to knock him out with a water bag. I wonder if he's turned into a hoodlum after being away from home for so long. Does he even remember those three poor little kids back in Beijing?

These past few days, it's been either sandstorms or torrential rain outside. I've gone out to check a few times, and this cave is quite high, so my heart is also filled with dread.

Xie Yuancheng would put the horse in the hole next to him, either to bother me or to feed the horse.

"Ying'er, the weather will be good tomorrow, so we can leave." I was leaning against the cave entrance watching the torrential rain outside when Xie Yuancheng suddenly appeared.

How did you know?

"I knew it. Let's go find shelter from the rain first, otherwise you'll get soaked."

He came over and took my hand. I wanted to listen to the rain, but he pulled me away. As soon as I sat down, Xie Yuancheng poured water for me to wash my hands. I felt it was a waste of water, but he said I kept rubbing my eyes without washing my hands properly, and my eyes would get red.
