Chapter 256 The Marquis's Lament

I was at a standoff with Xie Yuancheng for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, but in the end he gave up and I collapsed onto the bed, panting.

Xie Yuancheng went straight out. I was worried that he would go and settle scores with Ling Wu. I begged Ling Wu to help me escape, and I would be uneasy if I lost my life because of her.

I changed my clothes quickly, put on a hat, and went out to look for them. I asked a few people, and they said Xie Yuancheng and Ling Wu were on the mountaintop and that no one was allowed to go up.

I didn't care about anything else and climbed up the mountain using both my hands and feet. As soon as I got to the top, I saw Lingwu lying under Xie Yuancheng's sword.

"Lingwu!" I shouted as I went over, and Xie Yuancheng helped Lingwu up and backed away.

"You, you mustn't do anything rash. I forced him to take me away."

Xie Yuancheng sneered as he placed the sword against Ling Wu's neck: "Ying'er, to prevent you from running away again, I've crippled his martial arts. You won't be able to run away anymore."

I only found out today that Lingwu is my junior brother. Did you already know this all along and secretly have an affair with him, so you're just making baseless accusations against me?

Xie Yuancheng was on the verge of going berserk. I didn't dare to provoke him, so I could only try to persuade him gently from the side.

"Yuancheng, don't be angry. This is really my fault, it has nothing to do with them."

I was terrified. Xie Yuancheng had never acted like this before; he was like a madman, and blood was already dripping from Lingwu's neck onto the ground.

"You're going to do this, make yourself ashamed, and see where you can run to after that!"

Xie Yuancheng raised his sword, and I ran to the edge of the cliff: "I know you're angry, but Lingwu is innocent, don't hurt him. Anyway, if I die, you can be with the princess of the Western Regions. You can take my remains back."

I jumped down the mountain, rolled down several slopes, and got dizzy when I hit a tree branch.

I was completely unconscious. Luckily, I didn't run into the shopkeeper; I don't want to go anywhere else. I've been exhausted for over a month, and I've long since given up hope.

"Ying'er~" I heard Xie Yuancheng's voice, which was trembling with tears. I didn't want to pay attention to him.

I dreamt of three children, all of whom were crying uncontrollably. Yu'er reached out for me to hold him, but I couldn't lift him up no matter what I did.

My mind went completely black after that, and I knew nothing more. When I woke up, Xie Yuancheng was lying on the side of the bed, and he was leaning my hand against me.

I was about to reach my hand back when I felt like my whole body was falling apart. I couldn't move my head; I could only roll my eyes.

"Ying'er~ you're awake." Xie Yuancheng's eyes were swollen and his beard was unkempt, making him look even more pitiful than the day he returned.

I turned my eyes away and went to the bed to avoid looking at him. Xie Yuancheng came closer, his smile looking even uglier than his tears.

“You slept for half a month, and I stayed by your side every day, not going anywhere.”

"I didn't do anything to Lingwu, don't be sad." He looked at me tentatively, but I just closed my eyes. My throat hurt so much that I couldn't make a sound.

"He saved you again this time. There is a very famous doctor on the mountain. You just woke up and are not feeling well. You will be able to move around in a couple of days."

"Ying'er, look at me."

Xie Yuancheng kept rambling on by the bedside, making me feel uncomfortable all over, so I forced myself to fall asleep. Eventually, I drifted off to sleep, ignoring his voice and whether he was crying or howling.

He's too violent and doesn't care about me at all. I'd rather he were dead.

I woke up again in the middle of the night. He was asleep against the edge of the bed, his hand beside mine. I could move my hand, but my body still felt heavy, and I wanted to drink water.

But he's the only one in the house. Why is he still watching over me? Is he afraid people will say he's heartless and ungrateful?

I waited for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, but no one came in, so I nudged Xie Yuancheng. I was dying of thirst, and it took him ages to finally pour me some water.

"Ying'er, you've been sleeping well for a long time, even after the New Year. They all said we shouldn't move you, otherwise I would have taken you back to the capital long ago."

Who wants to go back to the capital with you? I finished my water and lay down. My body still hurts, but I can turn over slightly. I covered myself with the blanket and ignored him, but Xie Yuancheng is shameless; he insisted on coming closer to talk to me.

“Ying’er~ You shouldn’t go up the mountain anymore. Luckily, Lingwu used a vine to pull you down to the mountainside. A disciple happened to be passing by, otherwise I would have been separated from you. But don’t be afraid, I won’t let you go alone. I want to be buried here with you. I will follow you wherever you go.”

Xie Yuancheng's smile is like that of a big boy, but I'm already tired of it.

“Ying’er, talk to me.” Xie Yuancheng said, tears falling down his face. “I have no connection with the Western Regions. Their princess married Changze. There are many stories behind it. If you want to hear them, I will tell you everything.”

I wouldn't listen to his excuses. I pulled the blanket over my head, and my hand got pulled so hard it hurt like hell.

"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng came to pull my blanket, and I held on despite the pain, and he finally let go.

This bastard actually cried and sobbed by my neck, his tears falling on me. Only then did I throw off the blanket, and I tried to shout, but no sound came out of my throat.

"Ying'er~ How could you abandon your husband and children? Who said you would elope with me? You ran away while I was beset by internal and external troubles. You even gave me a letter of divorce. Where can you find someone you like?"

Xie Yuancheng cried in front of me like a little wife, almost wiping away his tears with a small handkerchief.

I really wanted to kick him out of bed, but my arms and legs ached, and I had been lying in bed for too long, so I was forced to watch him put on a tearful show until dawn.

Xie Yuancheng cried until he was exhausted and then fell asleep next to me. My hands were able to move again and I could speak a few words. Just as I was about to tell him to get out, I noticed that the blanket was stained red.

I hurriedly tore open Xie Yuancheng's clothes, and he had new wounds all over his body.

"Xie Yuancheng, wake up!" I touched his face; it was cold. After calling out several times, someone finally came in. Ling Wu took Xie Yuancheng's pulse and fed him a few pills before he woke up.

"Senior brother, I'll take you to the medicine room to heal your wounds. We can't delay any longer."

"No~" Xie Yuancheng crawled over to my side and held my hand tightly: "I want to be with Ying'er and take care of her."

"You idiot, go heal your wounds, or I'll abandon you!"

"Waaah!" Xie Yuancheng cried, leaning against my hand. Tears streamed down his face. "Ying'er is bad. She ran off with someone else and doesn't want me anymore."

Everyone was looking at me, and Ling Wu felt a little embarrassed. I wanted to hit them but didn't dare to. Xie Yuancheng then held my hand and cried without hesitation.

He must have learned it from Yu'er, otherwise how could he cry so convincingly? I asked Lingwu how many people could go to the medicine room for treatment, but with him looking like that, it would be a miracle if he could even go.

“Sister-in-law, you can go. The medicine room isn’t big, but it can hold it.”

Ling Wu's voice was soft, but I still heard it. Xie Yuancheng was still crying. I pinched his ear and said, "Get up quickly, or my hand will be ruined!"

Xie Yuancheng then got up, and as soon as he stood up, he hugged me tightly. I exclaimed in surprise, "He's still injured! I'm sure I'll put pressure on his wounds!"

"Put me down right now, you're not going to care about your own injuries, are you?!"
