Chapter 358 A Lucky Accident

Lu Fengjun changed his interrogation method, and the children actually started climbing on his table, kicking their shoes off to the ground. The constables grabbed them and made them kneel down.

After tidying up the table, Lu Fengjun had them all turn around, cover their eyes and ears, and speak to one person at a time.

Meng Anshi came in from outside and whispered a few words in Xie Yuancheng's ear. After Xie Yuancheng nodded, he told me and Meng Anshi to go out first. Before I could even react, I followed Meng Anshi.

"This Xie Yuancheng, he wouldn't let me listen just now, but now he's making me come out with you, that's really going too far!" I brought out a beautiful peony to hit, and Meng Anshi told me to speak quietly.

"Let's go wait in the back. They must have been sent by officials from the imperial court, so we'll have to use special interrogation methods."

"Brother-in-law~ tell me quickly, what kind of interrogation method is it?" Xie Yuancheng always sends me away, so I have no idea what it is.

"Sometimes it's a good thing not to know certain things in this world. That way you won't think about them or be constantly curious, which can turn into a morbid curiosity and ruin your life."

Meng Anshi had been with Li Ruowei for a long time, and his words were so profound. I asked him several times, but it was no use. In the end, I had no choice but to go with him.

We waited in the courtyard, and I asked Meng Anshi any questions I had about the mansion or daily life. He would tell me everything. If it was about things outside, he would just smile at me.

"Stop laughing, or I'll faint." I looked at the peony in my hand; it was completely withered. Meng Anshi and I had been here for an hour, and Xie Yuancheng still hadn't returned.

Just as I was about to ask him something, one of the soldiers who was standing there took a few steps forward, his hands still under his armor. I quickly pulled Meng Anshi up, opened the teapot lid, and splashed the tea directly at him.

The soldier probably didn't expect me to spill hot tea, which had just been brewed and served. He yelled, his hand trembled, and the thin iron rod fell to the ground.

Meng Anshi drew his sword and told me to go to the back. I watched as the soldiers flew towards him; these men were really good at holding back, taking an hour before making their move.

I saw them fighting and wanted to join in, but I left in such a hurry that Xie Yuancheng didn't let me bring the Phantom Sword. I saw bamboo sticks in the back of the yard, which looked just like swords when I held them in my hand.

I used to carry it in my hand for self-defense. A lone person ran towards me, but he tripped over a stone on the ground and fell hard halfway there.

"Ying'er, are you alright?" Xie Yuancheng always appeared just in time.

"I'll be fine."

I showed him the bamboo stick, and he threw it at me. I thought he would go up and hit it, but the bamboo stick was quite magical and knocked down several people.

Meng Anshi's skills had improved considerably; he had dealt with the rest of them. Several constables came in from outside and sprinkled some black powder on them to prevent them from biting their tongues and committing suicide.

"Who are they? Why are they wearing your armor?" I asked after they left.

"Several of our soldiers have been replaced. They were originally easy to identify, but since they're not very bright, they all showed up on their own here. We can get some information out of them later."

Xie Yuancheng asked Meng Anshi to help, and he took me out. I wanted to go and see more, but he wouldn't give me a chance. This time we came out from the main gate, which looked very spacious.

"There should be nothing wrong in the manor now, let's go back." Xie Yuancheng said. I quickly asked him if someone had attacked the manor, which was why he kindly took me out.

"No." Xie Yuancheng came over and took my hand, but I turned to the other side. "Ying'er~ you always misunderstand me. I'm just telling you what will happen later."

"You must be hiding something from me! Tell me now, or I'm not going back with you." As soon as I finished speaking, a wailing sound came from inside, as if someone had seen a ghost.

"What are you doing in there?" I rubbed my ears. This really isn't a place I should be. Listening to this voice tonight will give me nightmares.

"Hehe, come quick, the Marquis has left the manor, let's go select the best ladies."

I was going to make Xie Yuancheng explain himself before I left, but out of nowhere some plainly dressed girls with fleshy faces that could practically fall to their necks appeared out of nowhere.

"Ying'er~ do you want to get on the horse?" Xie Yuancheng winked at me. I saw that they were carrying baskets and looked at Xie Yuancheng as if he were a god of wealth.

What selection of beauties? They're dreaming! I mounted the horse, grabbed the reins, and the horse, startled, began to neigh. The girls, hearing the horse's neigh, were so frightened they lay flat on the ground.

Two constables came out and shooed them aside, asking them to find out who their parents were so they could teach their child. Xie Yuancheng gave them a few instructions before mounting his horse and taking me away.

As we walked past them, these people reached out to pull Xie Yuancheng, but I flicked the reins, and the horse galloped away. Xie Yuancheng later told me that these children had been led astray by their adults and that he would definitely make sure their parents taught them a proper lesson.

"Hmph! You can be secretly pleased with yourself. Everyone in the city is thinking about sending their daughters into the mansions. You should stay home as much as possible from now on!"

"Yes, if Ying'er hadn't come out, I definitely wouldn't have gone out. If I hadn't met you today, they would have been dead long ago."

"You can give them a lecture, but don't scare them. They were also corrupted. Just say something and that's enough."

I thought of my three children at home and wished them good fortune. Although these little girls are annoying to talk to, and are presumptuous and unrealistic, they are still young and should be able to be taught well.

"I know Ying'er is soft-hearted. It would be better for you to come out once things have stabilized in the city."

“It’s not a matter of being soft-hearted. We also have children in our families. If we were born into ordinary families, sometimes we would think that we would be able to understand what these people are thinking. Although it’s a bit frustrating, we would try to talk to them as much as we can, and if we can’t get through to them, we would try other methods.”

Xie Yuancheng was happy today; he actually agreed with me. I had originally wanted to ride a horse, as we always rode together when we went out. It had been a long time since I had ridden a horse.

"Ying'er, I'm right here with you, how could I let you drive the horse by yourself?"

"How about I sit in the back and ride with you?" Xie Yuancheng is thin, and I can hold him from behind. That's a good idea.

"You can think about it, but as for making it happen, I guess it's impossible in this lifetime."

Xie Yuancheng simply took the reins and went over. I wanted to try it, but he didn't give me a chance. He started lecturing me again, and I just nodded in agreement. He said that when I ride a horse outside the manor in the future, I should ask him for a horse.

On the main road that Xie Yuancheng led me on this time, I discovered that some sections of the road were still unfinished. It wasn't just men moving stones; some women were also involved in the road repairs.
