Chapter 398 Going Out in the High Autumn (Part 3)

"I know why you made me come out. Such a beautiful view, you wouldn't want to see it without me by your side, would you?"

I pulled Xie Yuancheng forward, and he was pleased to hear this reason: the road here had been specially repaired, so it was easy to walk on. The mountain wasn't high; from below, it looked about the height of a twenty-story building.

"Yuancheng, when did you finish repairing this place?" I walked around several places, and there were flowers and haystacks everywhere. It must have been really difficult to repair this place, especially with all these maple trees.

"It hasn't been long. This place was like this more than ten years ago. They just repaired the road leading up the mountain."

"I thought it was newly built. It does look very new. Aren't you worried about people living here?"

"We'll stay here then. As long as we didn't see anyone when we arrived, we don't need to worry about anything else."

I held Xie Yuancheng's hand as we walked. It was indeed very beautiful here, but we had to be careful as we went uphill. I glanced back and saw that the path was paved with stones; as long as we didn't suddenly tumble down, we would be fine.

"Ying'er, don't be afraid, I'm here, I won't let you fall."

"I'm not scared, I just feel that there must have been a lot of accidents when this place was built. The scenery along this road is really beautiful, but it becomes terrifying after a while."

"Really?" Xie Yuancheng stood next to me, leaning on my shoulder as he looked down. "There really is a little bit. We'll go check out the surrounding villages later. There are two villages here. They were the ones who built this hill."

"Are there many children in the village?" Whenever I think about going to the village, images of all those different people from before come to mind. They really used their lives to make me remember these boring past events.

"Don't worry, there are so many of us, let's look at the maple leaves first~"

Xie Yuancheng pulled me forward, and after passing a grove of chrysanthemums, we reached a cluster of bright red maple trees. Looking out, everything was a vibrant red; it was truly beautiful.

"No wonder many scholars and literati like to look at maple trees. They are indeed very beautiful. There are layers upon layers of them, and some ginkgo trees. The colors are really well matched."

“Let’s go up to the top of the mountain; the view will be much better from there.” Xie Yuancheng put his arm around me and we walked uphill. As we walked under the trees, we could smell the earthy scent.

"Since Xiao Chengcheng is so sincere this time, I'll have to take good care of you and make sure you get some rest when we get back, so you don't work too hard."

"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng leaned on me as we walked, and I hugged his head with my other hand as we slowly walked up.

If this were a flat road, we could ride horses along it. I looked at the maple leaves above; they were so red. Maybe there really is some injustice happening nearby.

When I mentioned it to Xie Yuancheng, he said I was just overthinking things. "But I've also heard some rumors. Ying'er wants to go see her, so I'll go with you."

"No, tell me your thoughts first. I don't want you to compromise your schedule for me; I want your time." I looked at him seriously, not giving Xie Yuancheng a chance to hesitate or make things difficult.

"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng was still smiling, and he leaned over to look into my eyes: "Ying'er, you will always be number one. Even when I'm furious, I will make time for you."

"You're so good with words." I leaned over and hugged Xie Yuancheng, kissing him. Some maple leaves fell from above and landed right next to us.

Xie Yuancheng held me tightly around the waist. I saw that another pile of leaves had fallen. "Let's hurry up and leave. I wonder if the leaves here will get dusty."

"Ying'er is also worried about encountering crawling creatures, but it's late autumn, and they've already gone into hibernation."

"These are the nicknames I gave those things, how did you know?"

I frowned, and Xie Yuancheng picked me up: "I know your body structure better than you do. How could I not know this nickname? You always say 'crawling' to me. It took me a day to figure out that it's what you call those things."

"We need to think about this for another day. Let's go look at other places instead of coming here."

I pulled Xie Yuancheng forward. There were some stone benches and stone tables built on the top of the mountain for people to rest. Although they were not very high, they were enough for people who climbed to the top to rest.

"Why are there gravel paving the way down here?" I stepped onto the path, where the gravel was irregular. "I should have brought Xizhi and the others with me. This place looks fun."

"Ying'er, let's just have fun together. Don't always think about bringing the children; you should think about me more!"

I looked back at Xie Yuancheng's little expressions. He was dressed in all black, looking both energetic and fierce, but when he spoke in a soft, gentle voice, he was so cute.

"Little Chengcheng, we've spent so much time together. My bond with the children spans over a decade. I left home when I was eighteen, and it was heartbreaking~"

“You left when you were eighteen, but I left when I was three.” Xie Yuancheng was better at acting cute than me, and I immediately gave in and leaned on him. “Ying’er, let’s go down the mountain. There are maple trees all over here, and you’re afraid of the cold. If Papa really comes, you’ll jump into my arms again.”

"Little Chengcheng~ I don't want to go down the mountain." I hugged Xie Yuancheng tightly and wouldn't let him go.

"Who was it that said the maple leaves were so red? There must be some grievance. They even said they wanted to come with me to check out the surrounding villages. The sun is already high in the sky. Let's go downstairs, have some food, and rest for a bit before we can go to the villages."

"Okay, then let's go back to the city tonight and not rest outside, okay?"

"Of course, that would be great. I just wanted Ying'er to enjoy being outside, so I'll build you a small courtyard."

"Where did you build the small courtyard?" I looked at him expectantly, afraid that Xie Yuancheng would say he built a small room on the mountain.

"Ying'er, we can make it fresh. If you like, I'll shield you from the wind tonight."

"Hmph~ You're just teasing me again. I'm not going, I'll just go check things out and come back. I don't want to spend the night outside with you. I'll feel so bad if you get cold."

"You always say that, but I've never seen you do it."

“Where have I not been good to you? Every time you come home late, I warm your hands. If you don’t let me go out, I just stay home.”

"Ying'er~ You're the best to me, let's not talk about the past anymore, okay?"

"Hmph~ I've always been good to you, and you still say I'm not. If I find out you're talking about me behind my back again, I'll teach you a lesson."

"What do you want me to do?" Xie Yuancheng stared at me intently. If I said anything negative, I probably wouldn't be able to keep the clothes.

"I'll let you stay in the yard for one night, and I won't care if you get cold, tired, or scared."

"Okay~ My wife is really too fierce, I dare not make any mistakes. I will take you down the mountain now, so that you won't abandon me halfway."

Before I could even react, Xie Yuancheng picked me up.
