"Do what you want!" Xie Yuancheng's eyes were filled with anger, and I quickly leaned against him without moving. "You always pretend to be good, and I've never seen you change."
"I've changed, you just don't believe me. I'm not a bad girl at all~"
"Hmph! Running away over such a simple little thing, I've never seen such a bad girl as you."
Xie Yuancheng got angry again. He turned and went outside. I pulled the blanket over him and covered him with it, but Xie Yuancheng wouldn't even look at me. This time, I hugged him from behind. When I looked up, his resentment was still written all over his face.
"Little Chengcheng, I promise I won't run away next time, and I won't wrong you~" I could only lean on him to rest; this matter was hard to explain.
Xie Yuancheng was still angry, so I kept leaning against him until I was almost asleep. Then he turned around and said fiercely that I was a bad girl. I could only nod in agreement before I could go to sleep.
I'll read this book when I get up tomorrow morning. Time flies by here. Xie Yuancheng is always around making a fuss, whether it's good or bad, I can face it all with him.
"Mommy~" I had just reached the edge of the small courtyard when Xizhi came bouncing out. He could already speak long sentences, but he couldn't speak very clearly. He pointed his little finger at the beads on my shoulder.
"My child wants my mother's Liangliang~"
"If Xizhi likes it, Mother will have the embroiderer make you a beautiful outfit."
I picked up Xizhi and hugged him. I love his adorable little face. If he were a girl, I would dress him up in all sorts of fancy clothes and take him everywhere.
Su Ling became unhappy when she saw me carrying Xi Zhi inside. She puffed out her cheeks, stared at me with her big eyes, and didn't say a word.
"Su Ling~ Xi Zhi is making new clothes, do you want me to make one for you?"
I couldn't stop laughing when I saw my second daughter. Kids are so cute. When they see people around them doting on other little ones, they get upset, but they don't say anything.
"Mother~" Su Ling reached out for me to hug her, while Xi Zhi snuggled into my arms and wouldn't get up, her eyes darting around and staring at me intently.
"Alright, you two." I let Xizhi go down. "You two hold each other's hands and walk. What did the teacher teach you today?"
"So many~" This time they finally stopped being angry with each other. Su Ling made a gesture, and Xi Zhi shouted along. I listened for a long time but couldn't understand what it meant, but I was happy to play with the children.
I didn't go back until it was almost dark. It's so cold in late autumn. A cold wind blew in as soon as I entered the house. I'll have to wear something warmer tomorrow.
"Ying'er, you're being naughty again." Xie Yuancheng handed me a cloak, which I wrapped around myself and wanted him to carry me. "I told you to change into early winter clothes before I left the manor, but you wouldn't listen!"
He may complain, but he's actually quite diligent. That's just how he is—complaining one minute and treating me incredibly well the next. After he stood me up last time, I've been studying by myself. He took all the books on Qimen Dunjia, but thankfully he didn't take the shopkeeper's book.
"It's all your fault! You went out without me. I miss you so much. I can only play with the kids now. Kids are so great. Running around and laughing makes all the bad things fly away."
I was inside drinking hot tea when Xie Yuancheng sat up straight. He only came out with silver needles after I finished speaking, and I quickly backed away.
"What, what are you doing!" I'm perfectly healthy, don't give me acupuncture.
"Ying'er, come here quickly. I'm not doing anything bad. I'm just going to give you acupuncture to loosen your muscles. I've told you before that getting pregnant is a big deal, but you just won't listen to me. Has it been especially cold these past few days?"
"Hmm~ It's really cold. I was sleepy when I woke up in the morning, I rested at noon, and I went to bed early at night."
"That's it. I know your body very well. Come here now." Xie Yuancheng had already come over with the alcohol lamp, so I had no choice but to reach out.
I was so familiar with him that I forgot he and the shopkeeper had studied medicine. Although he wasn't a miracle doctor, he was able to cure diseases and save lives.
"Don't wander around these next few days. If you want to see Xizhi and the others, I'll have someone bring them in. If I don't give you acupuncture and medicine, you might not be able to get through the whole winter."
"What's wrong? I'm fine, it's just that my back hurts when I walk, and it's all your fault!"
I looked at the silver needles in my hand, including one between my eyebrows. He was giving me acupressure with a serious expression. "How can this be the same? You'll see in a few days. If you're sick, you should get proper treatment. Don't always think about running away."
"Yes, Lord Marquis is right!" I touched my hand and felt that it was so weak. I have been practicing swordsmanship these past two days, and I feel like I have no strength in my hand when I hold the Phantom Sword.
"After the needle is removed, cover yourself with a blanket and rest. I'll give you a steam bath tomorrow morning. You'll be fine."
"Nothing happened to begin with, you're just being overly cautious." I flipped through the book. Only a few days had passed since the incident, and Xie Yuancheng had already collected a lot of books for me, mostly storybooks.
"That's right. Just look at these short stories and don't learn anything else."
"What?!" I quickly closed the book. "I can't do this to you. Here's what we'll do: you've taught me, so think of a way to control me. This is something only the two of us should know."
“The young men have all gone out to play recently, and I have a lot of things to do. I leave early and come back late every day. Last time I made you some food, but you didn’t finish it. Now I don’t even have time to make you anything to eat.”
"Food doesn't appeal to me. I'm just going to learn. If you don't let me learn, I'll come visit my teacher when he gets back."
"Ying'er, your teacher is very busy. Don't follow him. If you do anything to your teacher, you will be punished."
“I’m not afraid. My husband is so selfish. He doesn’t understand his wife at all. I’m only thinking of you. Even if he pities me, that’s fine.”
I pinched my leg, and my eyes immediately filled with tears. I quickly looked at Xie Yuancheng, whose eyes were absolutely sparkling. He didn't move at all when he saw me.
"I never knew Ying'er was so good at hiding herself. If I had known you were two-faced when I met you in the palace, I would have thrown you away long ago."
"Hmph! Enough with the nonsense. Even if you regret it, it's not your chance!"
"How could I dare to regret it? My wife is too fierce; I feel like I don't even exist."
Xie Yuancheng came over and took my hand, which calmed me down a bit. It would be a miracle if he regretted it. Last night he spent most of the day reminding me to wear more clothes because it's cold lately. He's more nagging than a mother. I had to close my eyes and force myself to fall asleep, otherwise I would have heard him until midnight.
The silver needles had just been removed, and I was still covered with the blanket when he started burning strange incense. I rubbed my wrist and only went to check when I saw him move the lamp over.
"Where is this fragrance coming from? It smells different from usual." I smelled a scent of the sea, but it wasn't quite that; it just reminded me of a vast ocean.
"This is a fragrance made from seaweed that took a year to complete. Doesn't it smell like seeing the sea?"
"Yes, the color looks a bit greenish. How did you mix it?"
