After I got dressed, Xie Yuancheng came over again. If it weren't for his injuries, I would have slapped him long ago.
"Yuancheng." I saw him clutching his chest and was about to look at him when he grabbed my hand.
"It's okay, let's go out first."
"But, your wound."
"Don't worry, Ying'er. Even if I faint, I can still protect you." He was unconscious yesterday, but he still managed to shield that person.
Lingwu walked ahead, and we followed behind. I supported Xie Yuancheng, whose face grew paler and paler.
"Yuancheng, let's rest for a bit."
"No need, the Crown Prince is searching the mountain now, let's leave first."
I saw blood seeping from his wound. He was taller than me, and although he was thin, he was still a man. I couldn't carry him on my back, let alone hug him.
After walking for a while, we finally saw two horses.
"Senior brother, since you are husband and wife, you should ride together on one horse."
After Lingwu jumped on, she walked forward. I was worried about Xie Yuancheng's wound, but he just took me to the horse and rode off.
The horse traveled to a secluded place, along a narrow, winding path.
Looking at the road inside, which seemed to stretch on endlessly, I had a very bad feeling.
"Yuancheng, this road."
"Go outside and you'll find the path behind the military camp."
"But I feel like something's not right."
"Ying'er, you're getting smarter and smarter. The Crown Prince is lying in ambush ahead."
"Then why are you still going?"
I touched his hand; it was a little cold, and his skin was even paler. He must be feeling very unwell.
"Ying'er's direction."
How could I possibly feel at ease? He's knowingly walking into danger.
The horse continued walking forward, and Lingwu suddenly disappeared. She had just been in front of us; I remember her wearing black clothes, her back view lonely and forlorn.
"Yuan Cheng".
"Ying'er, if you're scared, just hold on tight to me."
Xie Yuancheng's voice was unusually calm, as if the road ahead led him home.
I could clearly hear people running up there, horns sounded, and hundreds of archers appeared on the tops on both sides.
They pointed their arrows directly at us, as if we were sworn enemies.
But Xie Yuancheng kept walking forward, wasn't he worried at all?
"Release the arrows!"
At his command, all the arrows flew down. I thought I was going to die here. I had just grabbed Xie Yuancheng's arm when I saw that the arrows were all off course, almost all of them hitting the rocks, and some even falling to the sides.
"Ying'er, lean on me."
Xie Yuancheng's voice sounded a little off. I remembered the location of his wound and leaned to the right.
As soon as I leaned in, Xie Yuancheng rested his chin on my shoulder, and his breathing became heavy.
The horse began to gallop wildly, and arrows continued to be fired down, but none of them hit their mark.
Was the prince's archers holding back, or is there a trap here?
Soon, we saw the end of the path. I felt a dampness on my back; it was likely that his wound had started to bleed.
The horse galloped out of the narrow path, and the road began to widen.
I grabbed Xie Yuancheng's hand, and his hand started to tremble: "Yuancheng, let me guide you."
"We'll be there soon."
The sound was so soft that I thought I was hallucinating, but thankfully after the horse ran for a while, I saw a carriage.
Meng Anshi was standing to the side. When he saw us, he ran over and helped Xie Yuancheng down. I dismounted and followed him to help Xie Yuancheng onto the carriage.
Xie Yuancheng was already unconscious when he got on the bus; his eyes were tightly closed.
The car stopped, and a person wearing a cloak lifted the curtain and stepped inside.
After he took off his cloak, I discovered that he was actually the pawnshop owner. He smiled at me and then took Xie Yuancheng's pulse.
“Young man, we meet again. Oh, no, I should call you Madam now, you gave the Marquis his medicine.”
"Yes, shopkeeper, you can also treat illnesses?"
"I taught the Marquis his medical skills."
I was completely stunned. Wasn't he the owner of a pawnshop? How come he was also a doctor?
"Madam, please put the Marquis down. I will give him acupuncture."
I put Xie Yuancheng down and let him lie on the soft cushion in the carriage. I was afraid he would be uncomfortable, so I let him rest his head on my lap.
Meng Anshi kept driving the cart forward, but not very fast. I watched as the shopkeeper administered acupuncture to him.
I had many doubts, but I was more worried about Xie Yuancheng's injuries. I kept reassuring myself that he was so lucky to be alive that he would be alright.
The shopkeeper only stopped after Xie Yuancheng had placed more than a dozen needles in his hands and legs.
"This is a calming pill. When the Marquis wakes up, take one pill every day and he will get better after a while."
"Thank you, shopkeeper."
"I should be thanking you. If it weren't for your help four years ago, I would have violated the laws of time and space long ago."
"Are you really that shopkeeper?"
"What, do I not look like him? We met at the Ji residence back then, when you were not even fifteen years old. It was you who said you wanted to come with Xie Yuancheng that I came to Linyang. It just so happened that the Marquis fell ill at that time, so I entered the Marquis's residence. I treated the Marquis while teaching him medical skills. He learned quickly, although he didn't master the essence, but he was no problem with ordinary illnesses."
"I didn't say that." I only remembered my mother telling me Xie Yuancheng's name, and I remembered it. Besides, I wanted to compete with him, not marry him.
"Madam, you can't renege on your promise. You're already married and have children. It's too late to say you don't have them now."
I was both ashamed and angry. The shopkeeper was acting strangely; I never said I wanted to marry him.
"However, the Marquis had a destined person, and the situation was urgent at the time, so I broke their red thread. But it's fortunate that I broke it, otherwise the Marquis wouldn't have even lived to be eighteen."
What? Xie Yuancheng isn't paired with me, he's with someone else.
Who is it?
"Madam, there's no need to worry. That young lady has already found another good match. Besides, if I hadn't tied your red thread together, you wouldn't have even turned eighteen, and the world would have been missing a pair of lovebirds. So, in a way, I saved all four of you, making it a worthwhile deal."
"Shopkeeper, you are going against the will of Heaven."
"No, you were meant to be together in your past life. It's a rare opportunity to continue your relationship in this life, isn't it wonderful?"
"Shopkeeper, what are you? What past life or present life do you have?"
“You’ve already lived through Ji Shuang’s era, and you still don’t believe in my abilities.”
"Sometimes I wonder if it's because my memory is confused that this is happening."
"No, the place we are in is controlled by a large spacetime. It just so happens that there was a deviation in spacetime this time, which caused Ji Shuang to be seriously injured. So, thanks to Madam's help, I escaped a calamity. In order to fulfill your wish, I found you a good match."
"No, that's not it."
“Madam, you can’t deny it. The Marquis was seriously injured for your sake and offended the Crown Prince. Now his life hangs by a thread.”
